Ahem, OP Obviously had never played Any USN Cruiser After Tier 6 Cleveland.

Firstly, IJN 8 inch gun handles much better.

They have a Better Velocity, and without that Annoying USN Arc that will carry over to even the Des Monies.

Secondly, Torpedos. This give them a chance against Battleship other than Spamming HE 15 km away.

Thirdly, It seems to me that the AP on the IJN Cruiser is better.

However, One thing for sure is that Zao (Tier 10 IJN Cruiser) had an Insane AP round that can penetrate through a Nagato's citadel, though.

And lastly, as ragster said, IJN Cruiser had better protection towards torpedoes than USN Cruiser, although they often had a massive citadel.

better % to set enemy on fire with each shells

tier 7 and up has better rate of fire.

more guns

better concealment

tier 10 zao is the best Cruiser too, with its AP that can  deal citadel hits against battleship and even without citadel, its AP shell can deal up to 10-13k per salvo against battleship.

The crew of IJN ships get to eat those delicious rice balls which contain a plum inside.

Getting 20.3cm guns earlier, and a lot of them. In general, IJN cruisers are better gun platforms than their USN counterparts, as well having slightly better armour. This comes at the price of poorer AA, and absolutely huge, slab-sided citadels.

I see... Sometimes its annoying when im facing usn cruisers and get citadeled from everywhere.... And the reload is longer than them..

Thanks for the answer, i'll continue my journey to Zao

Yeah as a general rule, USN tend to have better rate of fire - and you have a huge citadel, so if they do it right they'll smash you.

At tier 6-8, watch out for:

Cleveland (amazing ship for tier) Great RoF + ~14km range

Atlanta has an absolutely insane RoF, however only has 11km range.

So your best bet is use your superior range from Tier 6 Aoba and stay with your allies.

If you get in closer, they should spam you to death. (Unless you get some torp hits or a really good volley of AP)

Actually, if you're in an Aoba, against a Cleveland, I recommend charging.

The Atlanta's citadel is as big as the Japanese cruisers, so load AP and destroy her.

One thing people don't see when it comes to the Japanese is their 二十センチ (203 mm guns). Those guns are downright scary against other cruisers, and can give destroyers and battleships a real run for their money.

watch your angles as you attack - you need to maintain as minimal profile as much as possible.

Only turn out to fire all turrets if safe, otherwise just use those you can get on target and don't worry about trying for that perfect broadside.

I'll defer to you in this, however for me I usually find a HE-spamming Cleveland to wipe my Aobas engine, everything and fires everywhere before I can get enough cita-hits off...

That what USS Cleveland (CL-4) mean to do pack a punch by spamming HE and then keep chanting RNG said by fire fire fire.

Speaking of Cleaveland, her performance is just mediocore. Not as stellar as all of you make it out to be. Slow shell velocity, high shell arc and short range. I find my Aiba to be more reliable. Faster shell velocity, lower and straighter shell arc relative to Cleaveland and longer range. Above all, TORPEDOES!

I'm too used to torpedo carrying ships that sailing in Cleaveland feels suffering.

Ubloke Aoba, all I can rely on are my 12 firehose on my Cleaveland if I am forced into a point blank brawl. Those guns don't immediately dispatch the enemy unlike torpedoes. Instant death for any ship foolish enough to get point blank to Aoba

Brawl? Get the +20% Range skill and start burning at ~13-15km.

USN DD plays similar like that, but what make USN DD UP and Cleveland OP is the Quantity of fire And the 7% difference between fire chance - 5% vs 12%.

USN DD at most have 5 guns, Cleveland had 4 TRIPLE Gun turret. Thats 12 Rounds of incendiary Molotovs each time.

Good luck trying to hit ships at 17.63km range in Cleveland. I always get the worse result when I try to play at near to Max range in Cleveland. The most effective range for Cleveland is around 10km to 12km...amazing things happen at that range. Honestly I don't see any point getting the AFT for Cleveland naccept for the 20% increase in AA range.

If you guys can't even Cheatland, you can imagine how life is like in a USN DD with it's Absolute Awful gun characteristics and an even lower Chance causing a fire.

Exactly, I also have AFT on my Farragut, max range is 15km but now I realise I should have chosen Last Stand.

Did the same on the Fletcher. It is useful for head and tail BB shots but not much else.

IJN built their cruiser to be a night fighter. They got faster shell(more ap penetration) and flatter gun arc at high tier. They also have better top speed but wider turn circle. And the most important, torpedo! And a much better protection against torpedo. USN built their cruiser to be a carrier escort so prefer more aa rather than torpedo they got smaller turn circle. For the gun they got slower shell and a higher arc which can be annoying sometime but also allow you to shoot enemy hiding behind small island.

Well, everytime i use IJN cruisers i always watch the angling... Still got high damage... And i dont know how they do it

Since i have incoming fire warning, i always check the incoming fire and angling my ship, and yes, still citadel or very high damage
