Why shells can bounce at angle, but why Torpedoes can't dud when they hit a very narrow angle with my BB's stern?

I've been playing a realistic submarine simulation game called Silent Hunter and the torpedoes can bounce off a ship's hull at a distance and also it also bounce off a hull's curve at the angle too.

This seems unbalanced and weird when your shells can bounce, they need of proper range and proper angle.

But torpedoes don't need any range, don't need any angle, no bounce, only DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE. :child:

If you want to make it more realistic, American torpedoes would bounce when flat on and you'd have to hit the target at an angle to get them to detonate.

That is, if the torpedo first didn't run in a circle and kill you first....

Why have to care about this? Torpedoes might be deadly, but it can be dodged easily unlike shells. As long as you have a brain...

Rubbish.

if you got rekt by torpedo its not the torpedo balance fault, its yours. DD are already under-powered any additional RNG to their already low hit rate torpedo will make them unplayable.

Didn't Jingles once say a USN Submarine fired 15+ torpedoes at a IJN Carrier, all of them hit, and maybe 1 or 2 detonated?

The Mk 14 torpedo was a fantastically unreliable: "submariners were forced to engage the enemy for 18 months with ordnance that proved to be at least 70 percent unreliable."

Take Jingles stuff carefully..... He's entertaining to watch but get stuff wrong pretty often.... The newest victim being the Cheatland - Apparently it had 156mm guns.

And are you talking about the Hiryu in Midway?

I can't imagine there is storage space for 15 torpedoes on a sub...

edit, unless it towed them on a barge.

IIRC, most WWII submarines had fore and aft tubes, and carried one reload.

True story about the mk14, it was an unarmed and unescorted merchant ship though, not a carrier. That's why the sub could plonk dud torpedoes into it all day long with no response.

Guys on the merchant ship must have been seriously like WTF. Also the launching sub was lucky, the mk14 also sometimes ran circular and TKed the launcher...

The Tonan Maru No.3 was a whale factory ship converted to an oil tanker and the USS Tinosa fired 15 torpedoes at it, at least 13 of which hit.  It's all in the link I gave.

All these sticks for the MK14

Long Lance actually isn't all that effective either. (Not to say it is not a "Good" weapon)

Sure it had a Huge Warhead and stealthy, but like at least half of it's victim is...... Friendly ships

It also had a tendency to self-destruct on it's way (Causing a lot of false hit report) and sometimes it even happens on board.

Not tto discuss any how game work here ... I like how torp work in this game (at least the torp from DD) ... but I like to know some historical here since it been mention in this topic ...

Does the Torp in real life and bounce or ricochet ? or it act like HE shells the Detonate when contact to something ...
