The Akizuki-class destroyer (秋月型駆逐艦) were one of the primary classes of new destroyers of IJN after 1942, they were called Type-B Destroyer from their plan name as they were designed to fight smaller ships, aircraft and submarines. They were considered to have been the most useful class of destroyers Japan fielded during the war and was well regarded in the IJN

These ships were designed primarily as anti-aircraft escorts for the carrier force. As originally conceived, they would not even have carried torpedoes, but a later desire to add an offensive capability to the class saw the inclusion in the design of one quadruple 61cm/24" torpedo mount amidships.

The main features distinguishing this class from other Japanese destroyers were their size and innovative armament. Some 50 feet longer and 700 tons heavier than the preceding Kagerou-class and Yuugumo-class, the Akizuki-class were able to carry a fourth main-battery turret without suffering any top-weight problems as a result.

These turrets were large, fully-enclosed and power-operated, and each mounted twin 10cm/3.9" high-velocity guns. Though designed as AA weapons, their high rate of fire and range of 18.2 km or 20,000 yards made them at least the equal of their American 12.7cm/5" counterparts. From 1943 on each destroyer was also equipped with fifteen to fifty-one 25 mm. machine guns, the number increasing as the war progressed, had full array of Types 21 and 22 radars and were among the first Japanese vessels equipped with radar.

Twelve of them were actually built, most of them serving in the 41st and 61st Destroyer Divisions. Six survived the war, but four of those were completed too late to see action outside of Japanese home waters.

Specifications:

Year Completed: 1940 - 1945

Displacement: 2700 tons or 3700 tons with full load

Length: 134.2m (440ft 3in)

Engines3 × Ro-Gō Kampon water tube boilers, 2 × Kampon impulse geared turbines, 2 shafts, 52,000 shp (39 MW)

Speed: 33knots

Armament:

(1942)

8 × 100 mm / 65 cal Type 98 DP guns (4 × 2)
4 × 25 mm AA guns (2 × 2)
4 × Type 92 torpedo tubes
(8 × 610 mm Type 93 torpedoes)
56 × Type 95 depth charges

(End of war 1945, surviving members)

8 × 100 mm / 65 cal Type 98 DP guns (4 × 2)
47 × 25 mm AA guns (7 × 3 + 26 × 1),
3 × 13 mm AA guns (3 × 1)
4 × Type 92 torpedo tubes (1 × 4)
8 × 610 mm Type 93 torpedoes
56 × Type 2 Mod.1 depth charges

Overall I think she could be a great addition to the game at tier 8~10 performing like a hybrid of USN and IJN destroyers. Fast/quick firing guns with powerful AA for a DD she could also have AA barrage but with only one torp mount carrying Type 93 torpedoes, the size of the ship and the top speed of only 33 knots I believe she would be balanced

She'd fit at tier9, tier10 could be her Kai version which mainly improves speed.

The problem is her role. She's fleet AA escort and anti-DD, but that kind of job gives little to no reward with regards to how the reward system works currently.

Torpedoes though, she's even worse than mid-tier USN DD because 1x quad launcher is next to useless, unless ambushing enemy ship at point-blank. It's going to be last-ditch weapon probably.

I do love to have her in-game, but what does she contribute to battle and what do I get from playing her, that's another question. WG really need to tweak rewards regarding non-torp DD gameplay.

if the DDAA hulls for some US destroyers are there, there's a faint glimmer of a chance we might see it.

I wish the main DP gun on any ship, especially this destroyer, would be usable as AA weapon. Soon™ or Never™

They have always been, just that the DPS is automatically applied without you having to control the guns.

They are still ineffective without Defensive Fire consumable regardless.

Nah, as in controllable main DP gun. Since there are dual-purpose main gun, I just hope we can we use it as AA weapon in the game.

That won't happen. Aircraft mechanics in this game is different from other games like Battlestations Pacific.

The answer is similar to controllable secondaries.
