Why is chat in game so silent?

So in the game I just played, someone clicked on a few map squares way out in the middle of nowhere to which someone replied in chat, "What does that mean?". I commented to him to stay quiet as chat in the vast majority of battles I've played in is rarely used, except for insults. His reply was that I was using it to which I replied "Yeah, but I'm always met with silence". So, I'm asking, why is this the case so much in this game?

To use World of Tanks as an example, while there was always one person who felt the need to highlight almost every area on the map as being vital, you'd also see people asking for help on a flank or planning this or that. There's none of that, that I've encountered, most of the time in WOWS. It's especially frustrating on maps like Hotspot when some coordination is needed. Hell, I'll say stuff in chat just to amuse myself (something about small things amusing something something).

The reason in game chat is so silent because we don't want to dirty other keyboard letters with our cheese/bbq powder-laden fingertips. My keyboard A, S, D, W, Q, R, 1, 2, 3, 4, Shift, X, are more orange than the rest. I don't know with the other players here.

More and more people are now saying "SOX".

Google "Shimoneta" for what it is.

Because the attempt to coordinate my team stopped.

I usually go to vital area ( EG Base capture) I ask for help, noone comes, I got killed, we lose, I know it's part of me that I don't go with my allies but, I have to do it, to reduce capture points or some kinda that, not many people come to the aid when asking in chat, so

I give up the chat attempt

That is a pretty sad state of affairs.

People on SEA just don't like to talk, for some reason. And no, it's not even the non-English part. There's a lot of english-speakers playing, but they just don't like chatting.

Yeap, terrible, that's why I have to usually ask the people I have skype for Div, but they have other things to do and they're not always available, so, when I go solo, it just sucks

Meh, least I'd wish them to respond with any kind of method when I ask for help

Why is chat in game so silent?

Because why talk to people if you can mind control them?

If someone suggests a tactic or place to go, I'll respond. If I'm not on the other side of the map, I'll happily oblige just so I'm not a solo target/focus fire for opponents, let alone the whole "lets get our crap together and win this battle".

Played in the NA server and they are quite the talkative bunch. They couldn't believe that I have a 5mbps Internet connection. Here in SEA, not much.|

I miss seeing the 55555555555 from Thai players though.

After all these matches, I gave up trying to start a conversation within the team (When I'm in a division, we tends use voice chat or just English in team chat). You'll either be greet with poi or total silent (pretty awkward indeed). To be honest, I think it's the problem with using English in the first place as it's not native to our region. Due to this, I felt that quick chat commands are essential to interact with your team mates.

I actually had a neat little suggestion because of this problem, an auto-translate system in the chat.

Depending on the language of the client you have picked (Based on your region and on installation you can install specific language packs when supported) you can tell the game to auto translate stuff to 'this language'

If somebody typed something in chinese in the chat, it would automatically get translated to english for all people with the "english" setting picked, vice versa for other languages.

I got the idea because a few games i played eons ago (mostly Phantasy Star Online, on the dreamcast) had these systems in place and they work immensely well, able to communicate with anybody in any country without even batting an eye or having to look up google translate. (which didn't exist, at the time, mind you :P)

Whilst this is a sound advice, it never got implemented in WoT. WG might have thought of it but deemed hard on servers/additional language pack/etc. It's a long shot but who knows, it might just appear in this game.

It's a hit or miss like Google Translate.

Happens to me all the time,I know your struggle m8.

It's worse when you're in a BB/CV asking for cruisers to escort you and provide AA cover and no one seems to know what that means.

Too many people do not speak english, language barrier is real.

I get that not all speak the same language, but either way, I see nothing at all. I'm not saying that there isn't any English in chat, I'm saying there isn't anything at all in chat. Playing a bit during the public test these past couple of weekends, I saw a lot of Russian talking, as an example. And during a bit of play this afternoon, I was surprised a couple of games when someone spoke up and people responded and as a result, in at least one game, we plowed through the enemy team and won easily. It was pleasant and actually rewarding.

Hell, if I die and stick around to watch the outcome, or I see someone pull off a nice move in the game while playing, I'll often say "Nice" or something else simple. Yeah, not everyone may understand it, but I'll offer up encouragement or a pat on the back for good play. I did the same in World of Tanks, but in World of Warships, it seems silence is more "accepted". I just think it's a bit weird. :)
