hi,

just wondering on the thought of this map,

i see it ends quick by capping or a long drawn out game that ends in a draw,

please post thought on map or use poll, thanks,

I'm still split on whether the issue is the map or the players. Because in the first 2 weeks of the OBT I found players to be quite aggressive on it. Essentially you'd have one half of your team made up of BBs and high tier CAs go in one direction (represented by large arrows) while a smaller force of DDs and low tier CAs would head in the other direction. CV's did whatever they wanted and could change the course of the game by either achieving air superiority or helping the small DD/CA force with the larger ships.

Both sides shift back and forth between their respective sides until eitther: A they get bored or B. the enemy pushes too deep to a point where the other team decimates those who push on them. There's also the distinct lack of skill CV players who are more concerned about positioning themselves on the edges of the map then assisting the team.

 

The map design is fine IMO. It is well balanced with varying levels of cover for ships to hide and DDs to set up ambushes. However I think the passive gameplay of the Asian WoT community is sinking into the game. (The kemp push for 15 minutes type) but for some reason (at least in my experience) it's happening on this map.

 

So perhaps there needs to be some tweaking to the cap positions to make the map more competitive again. Maybe move the cap points into the small island areas east and west of the valley area. Maybe an "assault" type mode needs to be introduced.

 

I won't go so far to suggest removing Standard battles, or maps for that matter.

yeah good points there Counterflak,

i think your last example in pictures is becoming the more standard play and for that it tends to a draw as the last ship/ships can run away and survive till time runs out,

i dont mind the map im just wondering on peoples thoughts as i see it end in draws a lot,

You mean the passive gameplay of all the servers? The issue of drawn out games from people hanging around at the back is one affecting all servers, and has nothing to do with the geolocation of the playerbase on certain servers.

 

Not to mention that the idea of wot players on this server being more passive than others is a myth, they're just...more random.

Make the bloody map huge! like in war thunder where ppl can fight and they actually move forward to do the same with out fearing of getting target by 100% players at times.

I agree with Counterflak, the map is fine its just the somewhat passive/defensive meta that has developed since OBT that makes the map seem bad.

 

To actually make the game mech all work and their be no need for nerfing CV's or maps or anything I could like to say something. Make the bloody map huge! like in war thunder where ppl can fight and they actually move forward to do the same with out fearing of getting target by 100% players at times.

 

I think the opposite might happen if the maps were to get larger. People would shy away from the main points, be it the various capture points in domination or would try border hug along the edges of the map becoming useless if one flank falls and they are too far away to either defend their own cap or push fast enough into the opposing cap.

If anything, I feel the maps need to be a bit smaller/less open ocean to encourage people to move forward a bit more as hey, if you're always in-range of someone might as well move and try to fight back rather than try and hide in the corners of the map.

I really love this map :)

 

Yesterday on the North American server I was in my Tier 3 Japanese Cruiser. Some of the enemy decided to go up Torpedo alley, whats worse, is that our carrier detected they were attempting it. 

So I turned around from trying to flank through rows 1-3 and head back, Just in time to see the enemy fleet (Consisting of 3 enemy cruisers) attempt to break out. 

 

Whats even funnier, an American Premium ship driver, using a Tier 7 american cruiser was leading the charge, I guess he thought his premium ship alone would win the charge. He came out of the passage, with my ship showing its torpedo broadside of 6 torpedos at 1.8KM range 

 

Needless to say he died very quickly, and oh did he rage :teethhappy: he immeditately typed "Reported! Banned for Life" of course i didnt think anything of it, but did type "Why" only my teammates responded, which after that I responded with this Dig "Well, he shouldnt of gone down torpedo alley then" 

 

I can understand slighly why some people dont like this map, but I think is a ton of fun :) 

 

oh and P.S, Dont go over to the American forums about Draws, trust me it will save your sanity :)

Oh come on Storm, you know better than that. I am basing this on my personal experiences though. And whether a player base is proactive or reactive isn't something you can really quantify.

I think the biggest issue with it is the way its domination mode is set out. Each team has a guaranteed cap point (because who's insane enough to push through the middle?) and then they tend to both grab one of the middle set as well, and the game is decided by kills more than anything else. They need to get a bit of an imbalance going again, force players to have to aggressively contest a cap point rather than playing it safe.

 

Ive not really had it in standard mode for some reason, so I dont have too much of an opinion on that, but I have noticed a tendency for BBs on both sides to go east, and get a bit bogged down in a stalemate there which keeps them in easy return distance of the other flank and forces the DD/Cruiser group to be a bit more cautious than they used to be.

 

Also, does anyone else get this map stuck in their rotation for 3 or 4 consecutive runs? I seem to simply not see it for ages, then get a bunch of domination runs on it at once.

I seem to get maps in rapid succession as well. However, I was thinking last night, I've not been on the Arctic or Ocean maps in weeks! I'm actually kind of thinking that I have not seen them since the start of OBT. Are they still in the rotation?

I like this map because I can do 1 vs 4-6 because I always sail to different side where nobody goes LOL.

Ocean is, but I havent seen Arctic (shame, one of my favourite CBT maps). I think they might be tier locked, Ocean is infrequent and has only occurred in tier 7 matches to my recollection.

Ok, that makes sense. The only tier 7 I got is the Atlanta and I only rarely play it because I kept being the top tier in battles. It's not suited for that in my opinion.

 

Maybe in a few more weeks there will be more ships at that tier so I can get it out of dry dock. My poor Arkansas will be so lonely all by itself in storage. I think I hurt it's feelings by converting it into a floating casino. :trollface:

My tier 4 and 5 stuff get a few tier 7 matches, and thats where Im seeing it. iirc, have yet to see it in a match where the top tier was a 6 or lower.
