Anti Aircraft Guide

Recommend Ship.

US Cruiser Tier 6 or above. (High performance Anti-Air guns)

- Why US cruiser?

Because US Cruiser have better Anti-Aircraft gun but IJN cruiser have better main gun.

[1] What are Anti-Aircraft guns?

- In naval battle, Anti-Aircraft are important to protect any warship from any air raid even enemy scout plane and naval battlefield is too large only main gun won't enough to destroy enemy fleet. The Attacker aircraft can  do this better than main gun of warship. So anti-aircraft gun are important to protect our fleet.

[2] Parameter of effective to against Air attacks

- This parameter will show how much effective of Anti-Aircraft guns to protect your ship and your allied. (US cruiser will have this parameter more than IJN cruiser)

[3] Range of Anti-Aircraft guns

- When expand AA guns topic you will see list of AA guns and point them to see performance of AA guns.

- Then point at AA gun It will show

DPS (Damage Per Second) and Firing Range.

- Dual Purpose have light damage than AA gun but long range.

[4] Recommend skill (Captain)

- Basic firing training ---> Improve 10% of AA guns effiency (improve Damage Per Second)

- Advance firing training --> Improve 20% of AA gun firing range (can use with AA guns Modification2)

[5] An upgrade of Anti-Aircraft guns

AA guns Modification2 ---> Improve 20% of AA gun firing range (use with Advance firing training will improve AA firing range 40%) **Tier 5 or Above

AA guns Modification3 ---> Improve 20% of AA guns effiency (improve Damage Per Second) (use with Basic firing training will improve AA guns effiency 30%) **Tier 9 or Above

[6] Consumable

- Consumable "Defensive AA fire" is very important for Anti Aircraft cruiser because this ability can reduce accuracy of enemy bomber (Dive bomber / Torpedo bomber) and Aggressive to all of enemy planes

Defensive AA  fire I is free, but reloading longer than Defensive AA fire II (cost 22500 credits or 15 doubloons) Active for 40s

[7] How to focus at enemy plane as you want

- Press control button and click at enemy plane as you want.

[8] How to use defensive AA fire and recommend range

- Press "T" button to active defensive AA fire

recommend range below 3.5 km because if too far Mid-range AA gun won't work and long range AA guns have light damage and enemy plane must go away ,but if too short range enemy bomber will dangerous to your ship.

[9] Possible counter

- Enemy CV will use some decoy to active you Defensive AA fire, when Defensive AA fire is disable then attack

- Some CV will lay down torpedo both side of your ship if you have low combat capability

[10] Early game duty

- Too many CV must attack enemy CV in early game you must protect first wave of enemy bomber (if they have IJN Carrier -- Attacker )

-  US Cruise have light armor , Do not fight with Battleship and cover team from enemy Destroyer and Attacker Aircraft

Note that the AA stat encompasses all your various AA guns. However, different guns will have different firing ranges. As such, your AA damage increases the closer planes are to you. How AA functions is a matter of DPS - whenever a squadron enters your AA range, your guns will automatically apply DPS to the squadron. There's no manual control over AA guns, but you can hold control and click on squadrons to designate them as priority targets.

AA Guns come in two varieties: Dual purpose batteries, and pure AA weapons. Dual purpose batteries are capable of firing on both surface and air targets and will automatically do so on any target in range. Some ships, like Tier VI and above destroyers and the Atlanta, have dual purpose batteries as their primary armament - there is no need to manually control them for AA, they will automatically apply DPS to any squadrons in range. Most cruisers and battleships above tier V also have dual purpose batteries as their secondary armament.

Cruisers above tier VI will also receive the Defensive Fire skill. This skill not only increases the AA damage for a short while, it also applies a debuff on attack squadrons and making them release their bombs and torpedoes in a wider dispersions.

AA can be turned off (by default, the hotkey to shut down AA is P). This is useful for destroyers who want to remain concealed, as AA fire increases the range that they are detected.

The best way to function as AA is to be a cruiser and keep on station at least 3-4km from primary targets, which are carriers and battleships. Interpose your ship between enemy carrier spawn locations and your own carriers/battleships. This will force squadrons taking a straight-line path to pass through your AA envelope and lose planes before they can get into attack radius, or force CV players to move their planes around you, lengthening the time they need to get to a target and giving your allies time to take evasive maneuvers. However - be careful! Some carrier captains may go after you instead, so always be prepared to take evasive action yourself.

As a final note - if you want to see your AA guns firing, go into the game settings and enable "Animate Small Objects".
