Why is the premium ship Atago in game instead of the lead ship of her class, Takao? :sceptic:

Could it be possibly because of a blonde with bigger chests?

But seriously, what's Atago's bigger significance compared to Takao that's enough for WG to use her instead of the lead ship? Warspite is like Atlantic's Enterprise since she's one of the most decorated warships, and Aurora is a museum ship. Most of the ships on WoWS are leads ships so just wondering about Atago.

Joke answer: So all the animu people can go PAN PAKA PAN

In all seriousness, I have absolutely no clue why it's Atago instead of, say, Maya. My guess is that Atago actually did a stint as a combined fleet flagship (though by the time, it wasn't much of a fleet left). She was the overall command vessel for the Sho-Go operation (Assaulting US landings at Leyte) until she got torpedoed and Kurita had to transfer his flag to Yamato. My guess is that they want to leave Takao for an actual researchable ship, but for some reason or other didn't want to put Maya in (Choukai didn't have anything special going for her, unlike Maya).

Yeah that's similar to the conclusion I came to. It also means they can use Maya as a optional hull if they want to go that way :)

Makes killing them in my Sims so much sweet.

Funny story, that.

The Takao-class were pretty much one of the finest heavy cruiser designs in the way. But, well, there was a pretty big reason why the US navy took torpedo tubes off their heavy cruisers and Choukai (fourth ship of the Takao-class) perfectly demonstrated why. While chasing down Taffy 3 at Samar, Choukai suffered a single 5" hit to her starboard side. While the shell was too weak to pierce the hull, the explosion detonated her starboard torpedoes, starting off explosions that knocked out both her engines and rudder. While dead in the water, she was subsequently attacked by a dive bomber, setting off further fires that resulted in her going dead in the water. While original Japanese reports said that the 5" shell came from a destroyer, non of Taffy 3's destroyers or destroyer escorts were within range of Choukai or firing at her. What was firing at her, however, was one of Taffy 3's flattops. Which were Casablanca-class escort carriers. Which carried only a single, dinky, exposed 5" gun on their stern that was slapped on as an afterthought.

All in all, a pretty ignominous end for a heavy cruiser. Man, they should give an achievement if you manage to get a gun kill in a CV...

Well personally il rather have Maya than Atago , since from all the Takao class Maya received a AA based refit which distinguishes her from the rest of the Takao class ships. Making her one of the strongest (IJN) AA capable ships lol. But idk all depends on WG lol

because atago is the flagship of Vice Admiral Kurita, commander of the "central force" 2nd fleet, strongest IJN fleet, w/c took part in battle of leyte gulf.

Ah yes the famous Leyte Gulf, where the "strongest IJN fleet" participated on the greatest military mismatch in history where they couldn't break through and were routed by a very small group of destroyers, baby flattops and ill equipped planes.  :teethhappy:

But yeah, I guess serving as a flagship is indeed a distinguishing factor.

Chase the enemy CV they said, it will be easy picking they said, the enemy will not go past the San Bernardino strait they said, we sank the Musashi they said, the enemy will retreat they said..

Admiral Bull Halsey was a very very sad man that day~ he was hoping for a great gun duel for his ships..

@topic: still waiting for my Takao ; _ ;

only to have one of her class get crippled by a 5" gun from a "baby" flattop.

I vote yes for an achievement for killing somebody with guns in a CV

(Choukai didn't have anything special going for her, unlike Maya).

While Maya got a complete AA refit and her third turret removed, Choukai was part of the Mikawa fleet and is among one of the most battle-hardened ships of the war, that fleet went literally EVERYWHERE. Choukai as well never got any modernization either, due to her always being called out to sail and was never in drydock for long enough to perform any.
