  1. 1. would you want a branch for light cruisers, fast battleships and light carriers?

Well this came to my mind after seeing weird stuff in the 0.4.0 PT, especially Kongo's stock battlecruiser configuration and stuff came into my mind.

guys, would you find it sound to have ship types such as light cruisers have their own branch in the nation's tech tree?

I hope I worded it out right since my first thought of this was of the light cruisers that served in navies popping out at tier X but since there's the thought of things like "fast battleship" and "light carrier" in the mix, why not? feel free to discuss thoughts about it.

as much as I would like to see high tier light cruiser or light carrier at tier VIII-X, I don't think it would be that insanely fruitful as of the moment (and we have yet to deal with wonky problems on our end like HE balance or have what may) since there are stuff like filling the void and as per the RUdevs of WG, its probably gonna be a paper ship but here's my take on the thought of warship branching in speculation:

"fast" and "slow" battleships

- not really that much of a problem since a battleship here can take on a lot of punishment, even fast battleships like the North Carolina can take a beating. hell even the Kongo when she is reformatted to fast battleship (in public test, her battlecruiser iteration is strangely durable) is still a very durable ship but the problem is the "fill in the blanks" for the treeline. if this should ever happen, its gonna be fun seeing the Iowa as tier X since I believe she's the epitome of sorts for the fast battleship in the US because the Montana should be their "slow" battleship. its not gonna hurt imagining Yamato with either the A150 or the No. 13 battleship in a tier X match whacking everything they see and sustaining hits like sponges about to take water or the South Dakota alongside the Iowa, right?

light cruisers

- this was my original chain of thought before adding the other surface ships. I am not remotely sure if there ARE light cruisers that are compatible on tier X, let alone reach tier IX because I feel they will be the ones that perform heavy AA duty instead of the heavy cruisers, giving the latter more duties on hail firing other ships. the bad part if one were to put light cruisers at top tier would be facing the Des Moines and Zao/Senjo since both can potentially evaporate light cruisers with their unique abilities, the DM unloading incredibly fast and the Senjo dealing very heavy damage to it. a possible upside would probably be that the DM wont be the only cruiser to unload rounds as fast anymore and light cruisers can probably hunt down destroyers a bit better. its probably gonna be brow raising seeing a Juneau hail fire like the Atlanta prem sheep (god I still revile that damned cruiser. and I thought the Cleveland was insane, how about being hailed by an Atlanta)

light carriers and escort carriers

- this is near-impossible since I think there are no flippin light carriers or escort carriers for that matter could even reach top tier since standard carriers start popping out at tier VII. I also doubt the CVL's plane cap to even match a CV's plane cap and if talking about how many planes in the air, a normal CV will win but having a high tier CVL would be kinda useful for fast maneuvers or on lulzy things like trying to make warsheeps into esports which would be amusing to think of.

destroyers and destroyer escorts

- I don't think there are destroyers that have unique designations but its unlikely Destroyer Escorts can perform like destroyers in this game since if we stat them in WoWS, wouldn't that make them into 'fatter' destroyers that can take a moderate amount of beating?

discuss the insanity of my thoughts.

that is all.

Judging how many Blues are here - I Strongly suspect this is something WG wanting to implement. Isn't Light Cruiser line already confirmed BTW?

not that was known of unless I'm being a derp and skipped important crap. but if there are, the balancing hell begins for it since I still strongly believe that light cruisers can and WILL evaporate against enemy heavy cruisers, especially when being hailed by the Des Moines of all things.

Light Cruiser & Heavy Cruiser split is still in debate though.....

There is possibility for Light Cruiser but..... they'll be branch out from 1 line into Light Cruiser (CL) & Heavy Cruiser (CA) line after like around tier 5. If can't find enough ship to complete the CL line, recommended it reconnects to CA line.

Fast & Slow Battleships. Still possible, and will branch into 2 specialized "fast" battleship line & "slow" battleship line. One sacrifice the a bit of armor & guns for mobility, and other line for heavily armed & armored. As usual if not enough, reconnect the branch. :/

My opinion on Carrier split is none for now. It's hard to imagine for it to be playable.

Destroyer split is no. Destroyer escort is good for lower tier given its light armament & small size while the main Destroyer is better for mid & higher.

In World of Tanks, Light tanks only go up to tier8 (although their matchmaking value treats them as tier9). They seem to be fairing quite well actually, so I guess the concept of Light Carrier and Light Cruiser split could work.

That is, if there are suitable candidates up to tier8 or 9.

Light Carrier and Light Cruiser could have special stats or perks that aren't available to their heavier variants, maybe stealth (for both) or smokescreen (Light Cruiser).

Since Light Cruisers mostly use Guns that Really able to do AA warfare I Think their Barage and AA stats should be better

Ah, no. Most CL didn't had a dual purpose mount and their defensive AA mount would be much lower than the bigger CA.

More or less they are like a bigger DD. In my opinion. What cruisers are doing right now is fighting another cruisers, killing DD and AA cover.

So we should split it like this.

CL- fighting another cruisers and killing DD

CA - fighting another cruisers and AA cover

usually heavy cruisers would perform the AA screen but having light cruisers perform the AA screen role SHOULD give heavy cruisers a breathing room but the CL's will probably have a hard time dealing insane amounts of damage to battleships, to destroyers they make them evaporate but to heavy cruisers its probably gonna be a challenging chore since iirc most CL's pack 5-6 inch guns. if Scharnhorst is projected at tier 7 packing battlecruiser grade guns, I can see why not light cruisers be capable of giving anything bigger than them reasonable harm but to balance them out, CL's should fire faster than any surface ship in the game.

unsure about the CVL gaining increased concealment since it would be surprising if a Ryuujou or Independence popped out of nowhere without even launching aircraft.

Making CVLs in separated Ship tree is not a good idea, since they have limited plane Count and Still low Maneuverability

a CVL can only reach tier 8 since its pretty much impossible for a light carrier to participate at tier 10 matches but if we speak of tier 8 CVL, its probably the last ones made, that or its an escort carrier classed as a light carrier for gameplay purposes. speaking of CV's, isn't Soryu the big sister since Hiryu is a more souped up version of her and Lexington's predecessor was the Ranger?

I still find Kongo at her battleship line a bit surprising for new players since at tiers III and IV you sailed in dreads and suddenly you get thrown into a fast battlecruiser at tier V and back again to a modernized dread at tier 6 unlike the US that only started to deviate from dreads only at tier VIII. her most likely counterpart would be the Lexington battlecruiser (if they ever EVER paint the Alaska class gold, I will rage... but still buy because I love that thing even if the RUdevs plan to make her bad) but that is assuming if both nations and future nations (the UK would probably be exempt in this since they love their battlecruisers that are capable of being reformatted to fast battleships and Germany has their funky cruisers that might as well double as capital ships. if we talk about the versatility of the cruiser, then we shall  probably talk about how the German cruisers are hard to sink) have battlecruisers that are fast battleship upgradable for a fast battleship line. even if it matters little since battleships are battleships in this game regardless if they're fast or slow, it should be something to speculate upon.

P.S. Amagi in her 1921 battlecruiser plan (stock) has one weird smokestack.

More ships, crusisers armed with big guns and no armour (sounds like a French ship), and some ships with average health but amazing armour and average guns.

Light Cruisers, Battle Cruisers and Heavy Cruisers PLAEZ.

to be fair for the battlecruisers, they're most likely going to be branched as fast battleships should the battleship branch actually be real. two battlecruisers are actually present with the Japanese, Kongo and Amagi. Kongo at PT's stock hull is her 1914 battlecruiser configuration and her elite hull is her 1930-1940 retrofit and reformatting to fast battleship and Amagi's stock was at the blueprint of 1921(?) and her elite hull is the supposed fast battleship upgrade should she actually even move out of paper. the RN is going to have a lot of paper cruisers and battlecruisers at this thought.

same goes to the French. iirc some of their ships are very solid, a few I would like to see sailing are the Richelieu and the paper Alsace to match the tier X superweights of the Yamato and Montana but quad mounted 15 inch turrets is lulzy for a battleship. if speaking of the tree branch for the battleships, the French can most likely build one line and not branch since they have (I think) insufficient ships to do so.

cruisers are the only ones atm that can probably put a bottlesheep in its place by pure, intense volume of shellfire aside from the threat of the destroyer's fish and the CV having planes on overwatch as of this build in the game tho.

IMO once you move outside the big 3 (IJN,USN,RN) you will struggle to find much that isn't paper based, if not outright made up to fill up the trees we have, let alone additional trees.  Again the big 3 could (well RN will be able to fill multiple cruiser lines and BB/BC lines) fill additional lines.

Don't forget though, that the primary target of the escort DD, CL, CV is not in game (SS & Mrch Raiders), so their surface warfare roles are more limited.

PvE then. Historical Battle would be a great place for these ships - I think this game had a lot of potential on PvE unlike World of Tanks, which is kinda max out it's potential already (Except introducing new tanks or occasion fun mode.)

The Big 3 are IJN, USN, And GB. RN had next to no navy, GB should have the biggest as they hard the largest fleet by the by.

RN, complete paper line as Russia had a smaller navy than the Italian states, in fact the Gremyashchiy is originally built by Italy.

France also had a larger pre WWII ship line, only GB was her rival, they were sunk before Germany captured the navy yard after defeating France.

@EvyL Your right Battle cruisers will most likely be in-tuned into the BB line.

Im sure we will also see more ships like the Atlanta, which is a destroyer but the size of a cruiser, which excels at light suppressive fire, great speed, fantastic AA and awful health, armour and round pen.
