Heck, even Random Battles was neglected from 2019 - 2021 in favor of Monetizations.

I disagree that operations are unpopular, and would say that their flagging use is a result from their neglect rather than features. 

I primarily play operations and have spent (relatively) a lot of money on the game, but have dropped off due to their unloved status. These updates sounds great and I’m looking forward to getting back into it.
