25% Resources Coupon ready in 27 days
Already have the Bourgogne
For Shikishima already have Yamato
For Stalingrad, already have Petro, though Stalingrad mains are more accurate.
For CV FDR already have Midway
For Plymouth already have Minotaur which is supposedly better.
For Austin already have Worcester
For Incomparable, really scared to play her, her armor is $%#$@#
Tempted to get Ragnar, though positioning is really important, AND I think I may regret my choice.

I had the same question as yours in the past that my friends recommended I should go for Bourgogne, Stalin, either Incomparable, but I changed my mind which I made a completely tough decision is to pick Ragnar as a first steel ship, I'm kinda sure you won't ever get disappointed on it especially you usually play ranked, other competitive modes and you're a DD enjoyer. So that's just my opinion, making a decision is your...choice, at least you need to know your proficiency, which class you have done so well at the time. For instance, from my POV, I love having fun by burning people as well as being a DD hunter, I watched some Ragnar videos on youtube, I told myself: "Oh! It's actually really good though", and I checked the overall stats before it shew pretty impressively, then I made a final choice. Well, to conclude in comparison between what makes you interested the most in terms of ship's playstyle and ship's stats, ship's performance by other people (Optional), I'm pretty positive you will gonna find your right candidate.

Have a nice day mate.

They'll add the Mecklenburg soon to the Armory (next update) as a steel ship. Something for you?

I wish WG would add a tier 10 Ägir as a steel ship (better armor, more HP and better guns).

Ranger , Q is do you had Smaland / YY , they are not the same but if centered around the Radar their play and play style only differs a little where if for the guns there are more capable gunboat and if for the Torp there are more capable torp-boat too

Tempting but the small tiny puny main guns for a Battleship, no thanks.
Already have German Tier 10 BB and Battlecruiser.

Ragnar's gimmick is CL guns on a DD and stealth radar.

It can pen CAs, but the dpm and fire starting rate is rather average. So while it can farm CAs, it's weaker against BBs.

Against DDs, you have a long duration radar and an armoured midsection.

Note your concealment range = radar range. You need to be running towards opposing DDs to keep them in radar range.

Your dpm isn't the best. So rather than bursting down DDs, you push against them with your armour while wittering them down.

This makes you a hard target for most enemy DDs, but if they have backup, it can also be dangerous for you.

Ofc, that is if you're solo. If you pair up with another gunboat DD, you fix the dpm issue and suddenly the long radar can be quite brutal.

Stalingrad. You can get Satsuma which is a better Shiki. Minus the credit savings

Depending on your credit balance. I'm always dry on credits, as always buying new shiny things when I can, so don't have excess credits to purge on Satsuma. Although I would love to add her to my fleet one day, but it won't be any time soon.

A good point, actually. How many tier 10 BB's do you need, and how many tier X German BB's do you need?

Well, economics + ability to change commanders as you want are probably what makes these special ships attractive. Still, there are good options in addition to steel, coal and RB ships such as the Slava which  Sea Lord Mountbatten calls 'the 'Poster child of Russian bias'. Not that even RB ships are free, mind you, you'll still need to spend credits and, optionally, signal flags to do it.

EDIT Though, the Slava is problematic when the targets are angled. In various other ways, too.

I've been tooing and froing tossing up what to get as well. I think I'm going to stick to my guns for Shikishima however, even though I already have legendary Yammy and Musashi.

The way I figure it is if you already have two pretty twin sisters at your disposal, then why not have one more to play with? 🙂

Agree. I used the laugh react for the twin/triplet sisters reference.

I have 63k steel right now, going to use the coupon on Shiki as well. Save the rest just in case wargaming decide to remove a ship. Though truth is Shiki is now the oldest steel ship that I don't own. (Stalin and Bourg are both older - but I have those already).

ps. Black is back. After the web campaign event concludes, she will be in the armoury for coal - 296k - same price as Neustra.

Picked up Shikishima as my second Steel ship after Bourgogne early this morning.

I primarily consider it as a safe choice comparing with Incomparable, Austin, Stalingrad or Mecklenburg. Also this can provide some convenience if I decide to have my 21-pointer Japanese battleship commander retrained for Satsuma.

I also need Stalingrad to train my Russian Commanders, as I already have many 21-pointer ones for USN, IJN & KM.

This was my thinking too, except I already had Musashi so can use that to train a captain for Satsuma (when ever that will be!). Hopefully I will get my first 21 point captain some time in the not too distant future. My highest captain currently is 19.5 for Yamato.

Not neccesarily though.. you can also play your existing USN/IJN/KM 21-pointer Cmdrs which in that case Cxp gained will go to Ecxp pool and you can use that Ecxp to upskill your Russian ones.

Both are strong ships in capable hands. I chose Shikishima first as I don't play CV's in randoms. I got FDR recently (PR dockyard repeat) to use in co-op when chasing directives.
