EDIT: Hi.

Every now and then, I consider coming back for a bit and, but every time there is always fresh drama going.

Its somewhat amusing, or sad for some perhaps, to skim.

But this new one just looks too good to miss (not that I can miss it when its getting in my face instead).

So is there a summary for the last few months? Also how are you lot doing?

Basically, tl;dr form of it: LWM posted that she was not credited and even embarrassed by someone from WG, which prompted her to quit the CC program. This then gave way for a mass exodus of people from the CC program. WG made a response which many felt wasn't adequate, and did not address the issue with LWM. There were subsequent responses from WG people which has addressed the situation with the CC program in general as well as the "surprise mechanics" but still has not addressed the issue with LWM.

Anyone can summarize that even further, I would very much be surprised lol

Fine actually, though COVID waves are still directing way of life in my place.

WoWS is in it's worst forme currently. To summarize :

Heavy scam-ish and opportunistic monetization through loot boxes. The game currently look no different than EA infamous loot box fest.

They are ignoring feedback and do thing their own way. We don't trust them and they don't trust us. End of the line.

No one has one that I'd say has everything... At least not a proper short summary... So I'll give it a crack... I'm on my phone so this could be written a bit poorly, so forgive typos.

Situation in the beginning...

There has been some discontent among some of the more veteran CCs for some time that their feedback is not listened to anymore. Early on in the game's life, there were fairly open lines of communication with devs. Since around the PR debacle, this has apparently not been the case.

Basically prior to the latest situation, there's been a range of fiascos big and small and some CCs are short on patience with WG.

Yukon

Yukon was released recently and was apparently originally supposed to be a collaboration between LWM and WG, the original concept being an AP-focused BB based on Monarch but at T7. For LWM side of things you can check out her review on the NA forums. But basically her off-sider, Chobi, designed a cool camo with NA tribal inspirations and the Yukon LWM designed is nothing like the one we got. To add fuel to the fire the camo Chobi designed or something very, very similar ended up on Anchorage I think it was.

Yukon Aftermath

There was a big hullabaloo particularly on NA forums, a certain WG rep was thrown under the bus, who knows if it was his fault but he's already working on WoT, so *shrugs*. WG in talks with LWM agreed to make Huron as an apology, due 2022/2023.

Missouri Changes

WG announced they were going to change Missouri's credit advantage into a permanent mission so they could sell Mo to folks who don't have her (new Mo's would work like normal T9 prems).

LWM does work on examining whether the new mission actually gives similar returns to OG Mo. (It doesn't at the moment due to the way it multiplies with signals/camo as I understand).

WG end up announcing that Mo will be hidden behind random bundles... ... Folks aren't happy.

Heated Discussion or Insulting Argument

LWM was in a discussion with a WG dev and apparently the dev belittled/insulted her, he did apologise but LWM was not happy, and neither were a bunch of CCs who saw the discussion.

LWM makes a statement

LWM goes to WG and says fix your attitude as a company and while your at it we'll have our perma camo for Yukon thanks. Her reasoning is that they need to do something immediate and meaningful to show that they are in fact sorry.

WG says, we're sorry but nope, that'll impact other timelines.

LWM resigns from CC program in protest and makes a few statements.

Exodus

A range of veteran CCs, most of the big names in the English-speaking side leave the program in protest, all citing different reasons but one thing in common - support for LWM.

One was booted - Yuro, for being caught out using the N-word a lot.

Missouri can be purchased but...

You have to complete a campaign first. WG offer an alternative to gambling bundles so that Whales and now veteran Minke Whales will also be able to get Mo. But hilariously not the wider community.

That is where we are currently at. I'm sure I've missed a minor points here or there but that should be all the major brush strokes.

Subjective points (from me):

CCs that departed have mostly been at a tipping point for a while. Most have been waiting to leave the program as they're clearly unhappy with things. LWM fiasco gave them an excuse. I think their intentions are good but it's more of a shock-and-awe and symbolic gesture. Many quoted gambling and money-grabbing methods by WG in departure messages. IMO I think that many vet CCs haven't tempered their expectations to the situation in 2021. When expectations don't meet reality, anger is frequently the result. The same could be said of the active elements of the community.

WG missed out on two minor PR wins. The first was doing the Yukon camo, the second was just making Mo available for purchase. As usual their reading of the room (at least the English-speaking section) is pretty poor. If WG can't take these easy wins when they are up for grabs, they're never going to be able to re-engage with the community (assuming they want to).

Different servers have different opinions. Asia seems to care the least - with more of a 'did you expect WG to act differently - lmfao', ANZ community is predictably more in line with NA perceptions. NA is the most up-in-arms, along with EU, I'm not sure about RU though.

It's laughably tragic. None of this came as much of a surprise to me, or many who have known WG for a long time. It is surprising that they handled it this poorly and it's laughable, in a tragic and depressing way that leads to a moment of melancholy. It makes me sad because I love the game and it's being handled poorly. It angers me more from the obvious ineptness at it's handling. It makes me wonder about the future of the game and my place in it.

I've often said I'm one good MMORPG away from WoWS taking a backseat. I've been that way with most games for years, no MMO has truly pushed the genre in a long time. Right now these types of dumb mistakes encourage me to be more favourable in my assessment of potential long term gaming options.

I don't like to do things half-arsed, gaming particularly. WG seems to take the same approach to PR debacles... ... Holy f%@^ it would be nice to see them not screw messaging and PR in some way just for a year...

Hope this has been an engaging read, if not a fun one.

Many players has reported WG sent email offered guaranteed premium tier 9 & 5 containers with just playing 15 times to at least 6 months inactive players. So check your email first to know whether you are eligible or not if you decided to rejoin the game.

But taking account WG's history of "Miscommunication" as they said themselves, this is too good to be true. Maybe they'll change the requirements to "pay $100 first to be eligible to claim the rewards" and labeled it as "Miscommunication"

Hope this has been an engaging read, if not a fun one.

After the initial idea of a Native American war canoe has been used for Anchorage, Chobi then designed a neat camouflage scheme taking inspiration from escort ship HMCS Sackville to honor Canada's contributions to the Allied efforts in naval warfare in the North Atlantic. Yet for some unknown reasons WG has been very, almost incomprehensibly, reluctant to adopt this readily-available (even already been created in game files format) camouflage design, a move that at least may have cooled down the situation a bit right before this catastrophic magazine detonation.

Also I recall the the crux of the matter is that, firstly WG development did not inform Mouse and Chobi about their development plan about Yukon (rather than communications like "We consider your idea viable but we have different thoughts on how a downtiered Canadian Monarch would feature"), and a constant arrogance and disregard towards even representives of their very game's communites (according to Mouse and Chobi, ignoring numerous notes, memos and messages they sent, and the final tipping point of the Sackville camouflage) which has been summarized as a problem deep in WG's corporate culture perhaps. Yet Mouse has been one of the most valuable members of the entire CC Programme and WG has even directly thanked her for discovering the numerous turning radii discrepancies between nominal values in port and actually measured data.

Spoiler

It amuses me so much when comments like "This tie in looks like anime knockoff star wars" come into my eyes.

Despite all the outcries and protests lootbox mechanics remain in the LotGH collab event (for captains. And the entire event turns out to be ill-timed, being caught amid this storm; not to say it has been impossible to appease the playerbase as a whole even without these bungles) and the planned Soviet CV event (for an event permacamo). NA Forum has been flaming and protesting till now.

I have been enjoying this niche game but too torn between my enjoyments from it and how WG has been handing it.

On Russian side of the News

Ruskia CC Tusky apparently were not only booted, but also banned on official Forum. Because he Critizied that Entire (ALL) WG Developer Team for WoWs has only combined Playtime of measly 300 hours in 2020.

"Why Need to Play the game, When Spreadsheet give all you want to know." "Playerbase happines metric is all time high at 130/100"

- WG developer - perhaps

Also, not sure if it's true, WG gave a bonus code for CIS players, where they put the Ruski CC's name and then insult him with the eff word.

If that is true, then what he said have hit WG really hard.

Thanks for everyone responses for far, I'll try to keep up with further developments.

Unfortunately, being as stingy as I am. I couldn't really find any true replacement either. I'll probably come back and have a spin some time. Of course, doing so with awareness of WG's attitude.

As for the gameplay side of things...

I've found out I'm not too far off from being 6mths inactive, so I have an incentive to wait it out atm. Combined with the current situation, I think I'll just wait and see it unfold instead of immediately boosting WG's numbers. I'll keep on the look out for the 6 months inactivity package for now.

Although, just a few questions:

  • Do you think I can claim that commander reset on the website without it counting against as me being active?
  • If so, Is there anything else in particular I can claim now but use later?
  • I recall there being a recruitment program for new/inactives, but since I've recruited someone in the past, m I eligible to become someone's recruit this time?

I honestly don't know, hopefully someone can answer those for you.

AFAIK only logging into the game counts but I could be wrong.
