ZAO in 2021

Even though i just play it for 5 times, but it's kinda tough to play. From my stand point Zao has:

1. Great HE

2. Good ballistic and shell velocity 

3. Good concealment.

4. Can hunt DD if you have big balls


Here's come the cons:

1. Slow turret traverse speed 

2. IJN AA, which means not really strong but you can shoot half entire squadrons if lucky (or use DFAA)

3, low HP pool. 

4. Ibuki has better range 19+km and Zao 18.8km (if i'm not wrong) the point is Ibuki has better range.

IMO, Zao need buff. like turret traverse speed or at least buff it's firing range. I know, Zao can drop stealth torpedo, but it's secondary offensive armament come after the gun. Ibuki even has better firing range.

 

Conclusion, same as Ibuki but just lack firing range and HP pool. ZAO NEED BUFF.

I would say HP, Turret Traverse...

Range you could also argue. The challenge with range is that it makes the UU more viable and WG didn't want that.

Turret trav and HP would bring it into line of other open water CAs while still maintaining her niche.

At most I'd buff her range with range mod to 19.5, turret traverse at least 30% quicker, HP by 4-5K.

Firing angles as well, one needs to be mindful when shooting a full salvo as it softens up the angle a lot.

I am tempted to suggest dpm buff but then again low dpm but accurate salvos is what makes her unique

I would like to bring her for a few spins but at the moment I am truly bored of playing HE spamming cruisers

zao needs rof buff. it can retain its crispiness since to use those torps you have you show that crispy side.

In short .. Zao needs some buff.
She's been there for quite a long time and has been powercrept several times already.
I mean she's useful and viable but there are ships which are better.

Zao making sad little noises while Hinden becomes the preferred ship.

Agility: Zao
Range: Equivalent
Durability: Hinden
Armour: Hinden. WHAT ZAO ARMOUR? Hinden can shrug off hits much better.
Concealment: Zao. But what use is it if it cannot fire for fear of having massive armour crumpling?
RoF: Hinden hands down
Fires: Hinden has plenty of flares.

For me, the preffered buff to Zao would be: GIVE HER BACK HER STEALTH FIRING.
