So I've never played the IJN cruiser line, but I decided to make a fresh NA account and grind the line to test how pepega NA server exactly is...

Started fresh account, named myself Zao_Is__Too_Overpowered and am starting the grind.

Any tips for playing this line in 2021?

I created new NA account to trying some differences. My play style when playing IJN Cruises like a DD and shoot & run.

Always be able to go dark, never be the one focused...

Keep your guns as hot as possible but never be afraid to just nope out...

You don't have to use all turrets if focused...

Same thing applies to all from Aoba+

Abuse your range and dispersion, only close in late game

Remember you can bowtank, except when you can't

Don't be the guy the enemy team wants to shoot

Mogami 155 for the lulz

Range mod is a boring but safer choice, but you can pick accel + rudder for pepega effect

Try to avoid eating damage as much as possible, but there are some case when you have better firepower than the opponent so you can be more confident

They are a line that focused on DPH rather than DPM, so aim well and chunk the crap out of any DDs you saw with their extremely small dispersion. They have high chance of setting fires too so focus on setting one or two fires on each BB, especially those that just used repair party, you have 5 guns starting from myoko so you can chain fire it if you feel like the shot is hard to hit.

In the past I will follow a few km behind my DDs if they want to cap, prepare to kite away while put a salvo or 2 on spotted DDs as one well aimed salvo can be devastating (not as good as Italians now). It might be harder to execute now due to the meta

Maybe I will give my Zao one more try later in the day lol

As someone who used to love running legendary mod Zao and basically tried to play mine initially as DD support...

100% this isn't viable anymore in 90% of conditions...

Leg mod is kinda pointless as Zao is all about the occasional salvos and long range farming and close support just gets blapped with the oversaturation of 431+ overmatch...

WG: "Zao doesn't need buffs" *proceeds to nerf her Unique upgrade and made it irrelevant* :cap_old:

I do agree that close cap support is quite dangerous now especially for something squishy like Zao, but I think with spotting from CVs and DD, it still can do a decent mid range cap support as it has a comfortable gun handling, just a little worse than Russians and Venezia

Well thanks to the like of Thunderer and all the high tier OP big guns , high tier cruiser game play is all but nullified , yes Cruiser are mean to be push into mid to close range so they can actually give real close support but before they can do that they probably already got blapped really bad. Its not only Zao, its almost all Cruisers. Don't think any Cruiser player can do much about it , its simply a case of WG making it big guns can just do what they can do with little or no penalty , and not help by CV , more big guns , more over matching guns.

While I do agree about spotting by CV , I do not think DD is really in the same boat, now without close support upfront , DD cannot be so much forward either and certainly and definitely not so if CV in game too , so Cruiser inability to be up front really ripple through to DD class also, and in turn without them BB are even less willing to even bother to inch forward , its a self fulfilling spiral of deadlock , CV only add the fuel but the culprit really start with the Big Guns
