For a lot of days I have been playing with AMAGI.

It is powerful enough but my trouble is getting citadels. I aim exactly at the waterline and have also tried aiming a bit above.the waterline. Veeeeeeery less times i get some citadels.

Is it just RNG or my aiming is wrong?

Any help would be appreciated

BTW I AM AIMING AT WATERLINE MOST OF THE TIME

This is a very complicated question...

At it's most basic, at the waterline on a flat broadside target between the last front turret and the first last turret.

It most depends on the target though, some are easy to citadel, some are almost impossible.

To view where it is on a ship, preview in port, on the RHS there is an 'armour layout' button (or worded similarly). Click that, strip down different section with the different options to view the citadel.

KM (German) BBs have turtlebacks so even flat broadside, at best you will get pens, in some conditions MN (French) BBs and even some odd ones like Amagi have turtlebacks (less effective ones) so it can be hard to citadel them too (at certain ranges and calibres).

Generally if I am in an accurate BB vsing a flat broadside target, I'll aim waterline. If I'm playing an inaccurate one or my target is actively manoeuvring then I'll aim a tiny bit higher...

If the enemy is angled, you will bounc unless you overmatch their bow/stern.

For Amagi that's most CAs in the game and most T6-7 BBs...

Oh and a final note, use training room against inactive bots to test ships...

Takes time but worth the knowledge.

Training Room doesn't use up camos or signals.

Citadel area varies from ship to ship and in most cases, it's ok to aim at amidship and above waterline.

You can check the armor configuration of a ship in port or start a local training battle to practice your aiming.

Yeah, as S4pp3r said, depends on ship. As far as horizontal position, general rule is just below the funnels. Other than that, do what S4pp3r suggests and check armour models and training room.

It also depends a lot on how heavy the armour is, and your shell size and penetration. Some large AP shells will overpen light armour.

Try training room, shoot stationery ship and see yourself where is the best part to aim. Also different range affect Shell trajectory. At long range better aim at deck level since the Shell is falling from above. If you aim at waterline it will be MISSED from long range.

Yup, I get mostly Citadels aiming at deck levels, and also when the shells land, they land somewhere midships (mainly for cruisers).
However flat broadside targets between the last front turret and the first last turret (mainly for Battleships).
