ST 0.9.11, changes to Italian Battleships

We adjusted the armor of Lepanto, Marco Polo and Cristoforo Colombo based on testing results.

Italian Battleship Marco Polo, Tier IX:

  • Main armor belt armor thickness reduced from 350 to 320 mm;
  • Deck slopes armor thickness reduced from 35 to 25 mm;
  • Citadel armored deck slopes armor thickness reduced from 35 to 25 mm;
  • Citadel torpedo bulkhead armor thickness reduced from 60 to 50 mm.
  • Internal 40 mm casemate bulkhead armor was removed.

Italian Battleship Lepanto, Tier IX

  • Main armor belt armor thickness reduced from 380 to 350 mm;
  • Deck slopes armor thickness reduced from 35 to 25 mm;
  • Citadel armored deck slopes armor thickness reduced from 35 to 25 mm;
  • Citadel torpedo bulkhead armor thickness reduced from 60 to 50 mm.
  • Internal 40 mm casemate bulkhead armor was removed.

Italian Battleship Cristoforo Colombo, Tier X:

  • Main armor belt armor thickness reduced from 400 to 375 mm;
  • Deck slopes armor thickness reduced from 40 to 25 mm;
  • Citadel armored deck slopes armor thickness reduced from 40 to 25 mm;
  • Citadel torpedo bulkhead armor thickness reduced from 70 to 50 mm.

With their current armor, hitting the citadel of Marco Polo, Lepanto and Cristoforo Colombo is very difficult. We want this remain the feature of mainly German and some French ships. It's also important for us that enemy battleships have the ability to deal heavy damage to the majority of ships of the same type, in case they make a mistake and turn broadside. Thus, we made the citadel protection of these Italians approximately on the same level as of Montana and Yamato.

We'll keep an eye on how the changes will affect the efficiency of these battleships and will recalculate the HP and change the draught of these ships in future test iterations if deemed necessary.

Please note that all information in the development blog is preliminary and subject to change during testing. Any showcased features may or may not end up on the main server. The final information will be published on our game's website.

TBH I'm at the point where I need to play them to get an idea...

I'm far too sceptical of the crap range at the higher tiers that I'm worried how good they'll be on balance of traits...

Seems fair, I guess.

Still disagree with how WG handle the main guns.

Radar is the problem --> nerf torpedoes

Speed is the problem --> buff guns

Guns are the problem --> nerf AA

Guns are the problem --> nerf armour

Invisible citadel is the problem --> nerf gun range

Transports are the problem --> nerf fun

We really don't need another line of broadside-immune Battleships, especially not ones with full-speed smoke. Leave this as a special trait of the German Battleships, I reckon.

People made similar predictions about Venesia (and Manfred von Richthofen, and Kremlin, etc). Personally, I can only imagine what my Roma would be like if she traded her useless HE for SAP and gained Speed-Smoke. Seems like a lot of fun to play - but maybe not much fun to fight against.

These armour changes only relate to broadside citadel hits. When angled, the Italian Battleships will be extremely tough to deal with. They have thick decks, heavy upper belts, and some have ice-breakers.

As for the guns, I'm guessing the SAP is causing balancing problems (ie. it's too powerful in certain situations). Let's wait and see.
