I've had a bad run of luck in PvP lately. Yeah, it happens. I've played long enough to experience this for myself and see others talk about it so this isn't a rant. (Grits teeth and tries not to rage).

I think the "problem" is, I haven't necessarily been playing the ships I like or feel are good. Regardless of the stats of any given ship, this IS a thing - I firmly believe the morale, faith and belief of the captain (player) has an impact on performance. At the very least I know this is true of me.

This is because I have been chasing specific goals in specific ships because of missions, campaigns or whatever. (And because I played some CV which I should never, NEVER do outside of Coop and Ops!)

I don't do Maths.

I'm sure, however, that people are right when they say 27.87mm is better than 27.7mm and is an important threshold or such and such an AP shell can always kill you no matter the angle etc. I watch these chats and discussions and try to absorb some info by osmosis and hope I remember something about it in battle. For me it comes down to, "OK OK, but am I taking IFHE or not!?" I am fortunate to be able to chat to many other players more knowledgable than me in such things.

But for me it's what you actually DO with your ship that matters most.

I remember asking an amateur motorbike racer about the relative strengths and weaknesses of certain racing bikes - of his and his opponents - and how he thought those stats might affect who wins the race. I recall him patiently starting to explain certain stats but then just saying, "look, the guy who wins is normally the man with the biggest balls".

I think maybe, after playing a lot of different classes and nations (which is GREAT for "knowing thine enemy" BTW, even if I had fail battles) my personal opinion is that a lot hinges on DD play and if your DDs don't do SOMETHING good that is either unique to the DD class or at least something they do better than others then you are behind the eight ball - especially if the enemy team has even a moderately good DD player or players.

So many times recently, while playing anything EXCEPT a DD, I have watched as my team's DD performed selfishly or poorly and saw the impact this had. It made me wish I was in a DD.

Now I do like my gunbote DDs and I do like DDs with enough AA to either dissuade CV attacks or even prevent them completely and I think maybe I enjoy most the pivotal role you can play in a DD.

You can do so much, arguably more than any other class.

No I'm not declaring The DD Supremacy, I'm just suggesting that the lack of good DD players on my team has impacted my PvP lately.

And it definitely makes me want to play more DD.

That's exactly the reason why the recent rants cannot be taken seriously. While there are a lot who complain about things, there are still those who seem to be ok with how things are going now.

  1. CVs are too OP against DDs - This is a rather subjective fact. Yes CV spotting capability is undeniably powerful. However this can be mitigated with proper positioning & distancing, just as what some folks here have been saying. CV's strike capability on the other hand. It has been constantly nerfed to the point where the only targets can be hit easily are the dumb ones. Right now it is literally impossible to use rockets against DDs without the support from the surface ships (radar/DD spotting), or dropping a fighter above them which means you have to sacrifice your chance to give AA cover to your teammates. Sure there are a lot who say the fighters are useless in the current state because they still allow the enemy to deliver a strike. But with proper use these fighters will either serve as a deterrent to delay the enemy planes from attacking your allies, or to deliver heavy consequence if the enemy planes insist on attacking your allies.
  2. BBs are so selfish because they are camping at the rear - This is another subjective fact. Yes most BBs nowadays prefer to save their own skin rather than to win. But the question is; what is the incentive for pushing? The biggest problem about pushing that I've found so far is the lack of guarantee that the people who ask for you to tank will support you regardless the situation. I've had a lot of cases where my teammates will turn around, and run away at full speed the moment they see certain enemy ships in that flank while spamming F9 at me. Literally in all those cases, turning around is basically handling my citadel to the enemies on a silver platter. If this happens I could only either to bow tank & reverse, or to ram my BB into a random enemy. Both often end up in fail. The best way to prevent this certain death? We know it, and also hate when someone does it. Although some people actually overdo it, and that's the real problem.

Its that pesky teamwork thing.

When you have it, enemies melt.

When you don't its that particular agony of no support, camping BBs, giving up caps with no resistance and a waste of 10 minutes.

funny thing is that i noticed recently

when i was focusing on the anchorage/USN BB token missions, i swapped from how i normally play of PTFOing to playing (surface) ships that are more farming/frag orientated

and then my WR shot up by 20%

after the those missions went away i switched back to trying to PTFO

and then my WR dropped by 20%

moral of the story?

screw the team, it's better to carry your own weight than hope that the shitters on your team will

It's the weekend players, you know people in a certain country have had 5 days weekend last week.

I wish I could do enough damage to carry and increase my %.

But for me, I find my biggest impact on the game is when I PTFO.

You prolly better at hurting people than me 🙂

Reminds me of an anecdote I heard about Polish pilots in the RAF in WWII.

Gun cam from British pilots showed them aiming for engines, control surfaces etc - ie the Brits aimed to kill the German plane.

Gun cam from the Polish pilots mostly showed hits on the cockpit - ie the Polish pilots wanted to kill Germans!
