So after spending some hours in the new Big Hunt mode, because I'm sick of randoms and I can just play it later...

Currently having no trouble getting 10k battle points per hour, although this should be an estimate on the low end. I haven't kept proper track but it should be higher. I'm hanging around 50% WR for the mode atm.

The mode gives no direct EXP or credits. But it does give you options for obtaining them in the armoury. Besides the special rewards, you can buy camos that give +100% exp in normal matches, or buy credits. For the exp camo, you have to actually use the ship, but you can gain increased exp rather than directly feeding FXP into your ship. Should be useful for helping to grind tech tree ships. And for the credits, theres no service cost behind it unlike normal gameplay, so its not as bad as it looks.

This seems like a fair reward, unless someone wants to do the math and correct me. Although if you have premium ships for grinding exp and credits, it might be less appealing.

Heres some helpful information, and a few tips at the end, for those interested in playing.

Points

  • Points comes from mobs, or players who have collected points from mobs.
  • Gathering a certain amount allows you to get upgrades. Some are better than others, the good ones have significant impact. (eg. +20% dmg) The upgrades are ship dependent, modules don't seem to matter for upgrades.
  • All points gathered in the match is how much you'll receive at the end. You spend it in the armoury. Note that your reward is doubled if you survive.

Allies

  • Be careful who you trust. Duh.
  • The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Help the enemy weaken themselves, preferably without weakening yourself too much.
  • If you can't beat them, join them. Sometimes its a literal "join or die" situation. Its a way to get allies, no comment.
  • People who have keys are more trustworthy, because they have more to risk in a betrayal. Also its harder to get for them to get another team because people want their keys. They might not stick around if they can exit tho.

Mobs

  • White and red circles on the minimap indicate mob spawn areas. The circle will disappear a player activates it. Red circles can potentially hold a key, but not always. There are more red circles than keys. These spawns are a finite resource
  • Mobs also spawn around the gate, so you can farm those for points if you're able to control the area.
  • All mobs take full dmg from pens and have lots of hp, so they're great for unlocking modules.

Strategy

  • All points gained are distributed among your entire division. Bad allies can cost you points. Good allies will be a valuable asset. Group up when fighting other players, but spread out a bit when hunting mobs.
  • You could consider delay joining a division, to ensure all the points go towards yourself. Just don't wait too long before everyone else is in a full team.
  • Don't go out of your way to kill players during early game, they wouldn't have collected many points from mobs yet.
  • Don't waste time chasing players unless you can expect to get the kill. Time spent chasing is time that could be spent farming mobs.
  • If you can't get a key and leave, you can still get points from killing other players. Don't worry, they'll still get rewarded with what they had when they died.
  • Some upgrades can stack for some very powerful effects, I'll let you discover them yourself for now. (-50% reduction after 4 dmg reduction upgrades)

Other

  • Thoroughly check the weapons while in port. Eg. Valkyrie's AP guns only have 2 barrels, although the reload and damage compensates a lot.
  • The UI seems to show unusually low dmg for the mortar secondaries, not sure if it is an error.
  • Note that ships move significantly faster in this mode, remember to aim further ahead.

That's a neat overview of the game mode.

I have one tip. Don't try to ram the enemy players unless you are really sure they don't have the shield consumable.

And I think the Mortar-based weapons use SAP shells.

Very nice.

I haven't had time to play the game yet, but it looks like the upgrade choices in-battle are dependent on my ship's modules?

Valk's mortar shells also fly very slow (mz 500m/s iirc), but your full salvo is 36 shells, so while it's difficult to use, mortar Valk can be quite a blast to play against the monsters. Unless they changed it from PTs, the mortar shells seem to be HE - they have pretty big splash AoE. Her AP main guns can citadel Heracles at basically all ranges with ease so don't underestimate them. Those deal high damage against the bigger monsters, also.

The laser weapon for Heracles is very hard to use but they are devastating. Basically, all of Heracles' weapons are highly destructive if you can't dodge them.

I wouldn't play the mode for the reward, but I will play just for the hell of it. I'm bloody bored of the core game and want to play something different.

Every time you upgrade, it seems you get 2 possible upgrades randomly chosen from a pool.

Just the ship seems to matter, tried a few options, haven't noticed any new unique choices.

Betrayal is 101% optional and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise. I enjoy the (Octagon) brawl so I wouldn't even think of picking up any Key. If you and your div mates get into the Octagon, consider it a duel, not a fight to the death.

Div up early and stick with them. Get all 3 people for maximum efficiency. I say you and your div can start killing other players at Level 3 or so, or when the countdown to Portal opening nearing 3 minutes. A lot of Lobster-eyed spawn near the Portal by that point too, so you can farm there without killing other players.

Not sure if accidental secondary hits will make other players attack you (depend on the players I guess), but everyone should be careful with that.

To add to the level up thing, apparently we can only get 3 of any one "level up bonus".

I am being killed very early at start by players with torpedoes.

Is there a strategy to fix this?.

I have the basic first ship.

There is something that most might not know. If you ram an enemy player with shield on, and the enemy also uses shield; the ramming damage is non existent after both shields are deactivated. I managed to win 1v1 by just pushing the enemy out from the safe zone.

Know the characteristics of the ship you're fighting:

Torpedoes comes from Gales, the 2nd ship. Most often you'll see them with 4x5 torps which have 8km range.

Gales can't stealth torp without islands.

Gales need to land nearly the entire salvo if they want to devstrike a full HP Valkyrie.

Gales are tankier than your typical DD in randoms, and the higher speed of ships means distance can be covered in shorter time.

Aka don't try to go head-on brawl against a Gale in close quarters.

WASD will make it harder for them to predict you.

All Valkyries have consumables that help mitigate dmg. In your case, its your speed boost which can outrun torps.

Ah yeah I seen a case of that, although my match ended quickly after so I didn't give it much thought.

That's evil. It seems you couldn't beat him with guns, so you used the game mechanics instead. Clever tactic.
