MFW i wrote a whole page on why this ship is a flameing pile of turd and realized it can be summarized just as easily in a list

here goes 

 

she's fat & ugly

she has terrible guns

she has terrible reload

she has terrible accuracy 

she drifts slower than a wheelchair

 

if someone can make this ship work then please teach us cuz I sure as [content removed]  cant

WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING???

Those 3 extra 16" guns have to be paid for somehow. The combination of traits makes it a hard ship to do badly in, and a hard ship to do well in. On average then, it is balanced.

On the upside, there is one legit good point for Kansas - it gets the tight turning circle of the low tier US dreadnoughts meaning you can be a tough target to torp if you play your cards right.

To be fair, she'd work IRL. Except this is not IRL. This is an arcadey "historical naval simulator" where speed does matter.

That being said, it's totally understandable that not everyone cares for the ship, and your thoughts are 100% valid. However, try to remember that it might fit someone else's playstyle even if it doesn't fit yours.

I would have thought you of all players Drakonation *cough* Drakon could make her work.

Considering your skill level I'd like to suggest you are probably playing her like a solo ship, i.e. any other BB. She doesn't work well like that if the enemy knows what they are doing.

I've had success with playing a 4x2 grid in middle of spawn, forward 1 grid.

Play it safe AF and then crossfire to flanks/whatevs.

Then when they push a flank, start bailing out ahead of time and stay 15km+ away, forcing them to chase you (it does actually take a while to chase someone down, even at double their speed). In the process they get crossfired, either chasing you or ignoring you.

I think I posted it somewhere but think of it like you have to do everything a minute extra early...

NB: I figured I wouldn't go through basics of 'cause Colorado shells, unreliable v higher tier angled targets' and 'she's slow so don't flank' cause you'd know that. But for others, very good basic skills; positioning, aim, etc do wonders.

This ship may work, but fades in comparison as there are so many good T8 BBs that are simply more fun to play. Facing the choises I just don't see the reason why bother with Kansas.

After playing it a couple of times, things I learn:

- sit far back
- armour. what armour? I still get pen with 16" at stupid angles
- 40 sec reload. just kill me...
- you're telling me I use standard AP?
- hey guys!! don't leave me behind!!

Really this ship is just not fun. If your flank falls and your team is running away, guess who's decoy?

Kansas is the worst of the line, but still very playable. As for strengths - try flying T8 planes in the AA radius of a pair of US fat boys. Minnesota is incrementally better at everything. I am looking forward to the Vermont. A playtester got a match-winning Kraken for the red team in one of my games.

Always consider yourself the REAR GUARD whether you're winning or losing.

When your flank is on the verge of collapse you'd always be the last one out even if you're the last one to arrive, with your sacrifice the team will live to fight longer ... at the very least.

So far I have been getting her to work. Kansas is a team ship, so you have to work with your teammates. Don't bother trying to flank or do any sort of lone wolf heroics, because she is not suited for that.

Poor AP pen at range and lousy accuracy means she is not suited for sniping, instead I have had more success in Kansas by sailing closer to the enemy (about ~15km away from the enemy cruisers). I take fire when necessary, but my main plan is to shoot at anything that exposes their broadsides, especially if it is an enemy cruiser.

40s reloads hurt, but when you do get a good salvo against a broadside target you can do a lot of damage. Sometimes it pays to be a little patient and actually hold your fire if you foresee an enemy growing broadside soon. This is one reason why Kansas works well together with other teammates. You wait for when the enemy tries to angle against your team and in the process expose their broadside to you, and that is when you strike. If Kansas is isolated, an enemy can easily angle against her and reduce her damage output drastically.

If enemy pushes, then you bail and start a fighting retreat. Even on the retreat a Kansas can put up a good fight as along as she has support from other retreating teammates, hence the importance of not playing solo in her. The enemy can't get lazy and expose their broadsides against you, and if they try to whittle you down slowly as you retreat your teammates can take potshots at them.

In all I find Kansas to requires patience and deliberation. You don't try to run from one side of the map to the other. Instead you stay on your flank for as long as possible and act as solid anchor that other teammates can rally around.

No, no one in random like this ship playstyle except potato, stop making excuse dude....
this ship is bad it need buff in speed and reload....
dispersion and sigma its okay i can still hit with 1.5 sigma

If you play even averagely in Warships you can make credits at T10 on FTP, Kansas is T8, if you are having servicing cost issues at that tier even on a FTP account, best bet is to work on the basic skills at lower tiers for a while.

No you are wrong. Some, possibly many players don't enjoy playing her but 'no one' is categorically wrong.

I also strongly suspect the floupie echo chamber has happened again where certain vocal groups say 'Kansas bad' and many just jump on the band wagon.

Also most potatoes probably don't have access to her...

And objectively, the ship does not 'need' more speed or reload. At least by testing numbers she'd be in a reasonably balanced state.

It is worse in both areas than other T8s, yes. But other T8s don't have 12 guns.

Not all T8s have her AA, other T8 BBs don't have DFAA...

Other T8s don't have her range.

She may not be fun to play for you and some others but please don't make sweeping statements. If anything she's hard to play well so most players who will make her work will have better skills. (So I struggle to see how 'potatoes' would like her).

100% understand you not liking her, I get it but do not assume all others think the same way.
