Selfish player

Recently in a random game, I encountered a strange move by a teammate DD.

That player starts it's spawn on West flank of map. Once game begins, he immediately turns 135 deg to the left and races all the way to the back edge of the map (mid column section), and sits there doing nothing.

Only after about 5 min (if I remember correctly), he then moves out of that comfort zone and races back to join the on-going battle.

He's a DD, for god sake, why would he do that, that's so selfish.

Have you guys ever encounter extremely selfish players in random games? I mean, not those sit behind island sniping or refuse to help cap because due to wrong focus on chasing down fleeing enemy ships, but those real real selfish playing types.

No. Everyone I have played with in this game has been an informed, engaged, team player who has done everything they can to support and help the whole team acheive a win.

Actually, that's pretty much my experience with all online games, ever.

Human beings are so wonderful and caring.

Always thinking of others.

Always good.

Sigh.

I'm glad you clarified.

I've been playing Des Moines lately, and, perhaps due to my own inexperience, I have trouble doing well in a battle in which I don't hide behind an island and use cover to lob shots at enemies.

That I can understand, different ships and players sometimes suited with their own best playing styles.

In fact, I always play my IJN cruisers in mid range, spamming HE then I turn away and hide into stealth again and repeat 😛 Only when team has advantage then I will get more closing range to help the push. But I will always try to defend caps vigorously when faced with enemy onslaught or help teammates with AA support.

That particular DD in that game, I really don't understand his/her mentality.

I encounter plenty of players like that. They are not very good, which is the reason why the do that. They have no confidence in their own ability to stand up to the enemy.

When I see one of those on my team, I know I am in for a rough match.

Could have had hardware issues, RL wife or mum aggro, anything.

But most of the time when you see this sort of behaviour, it's bot pathing gone wrong.

Basically there are (not as many as there used to be) accounts that just run simple programs designed to level accounts quickly and then for sale (no idea why you'd buy one) but yeah.

Seen a number of these kind of players, and no most of them are not bots they are just in the mindset that they will not engage in real fire fight and the norm is only joining in to farm from as far from the front as possible ,when both friends and foes already engaged , and thus highly unlikely to switch to a pesky ( full HP ) and distant targets.

Most are high tier cruisers abusing their range and range upgrade but others too.

as DD player who like done this, i can confirm its strategically benefit a lot. WE DD PLAYER ARE NOT YOUR SLAVE, WE HAVE OUR OWN MIND, WE HAVE OUR OWN BUSINESS.

if you dont like DD doing like that you can play DD and see HIGH RISK AND LESS REWARDING.

there is a common strategy used by non-smoke DD or full radared enemy to not cap early. if CV present or we have radar CA, its their task to kill enemy DD.

i am doing this with Orkan, French DD and Europe DD and doing fine. only idiot charge to the cap and dead.

remember, DD MAIN ROLE IS STAYING ALIVE

the other task is just bullcrap secondary task.

I am not playing game for doing another stress job, i am playing game for fun.

if trolling and doing nothing in DD generate fun, i will definitely do that.

Well, I am not advocating DDs should rush in the beginning to cap recklessly and die for nothing. No, I won't request a DD teammate to do this as it's not contributing to winning the battle.

What I am saying in that particular game I played, I saw the team DD doing this at the beginning (white arrow indicates DD immediately at start dash all the way to back of map and sits there for a couple of mins) :

This map I download from Google image, edit a bit to illustrate what I saw, not the actual game map I played. I simply see no tactical reason why he/she did that.

is that CV present in your match? is that your team DD a non-smoke? like IJN Torpedo built or Frenchys. sometimes i am regret why not i am sticking close to ally CV for avoiding enemy CV. if he joined the battle later, he must have a good reason. if he keep stay behind maybe its bot.

sometimes, when i am going back that is mean its bad cap position and people should stayback. if you look closely the right cap is "Dead Cap". depend on tier, no island cover mean dead

combined with CV, i will hang in the back too!

The DD is not under threat. It rushes instantly to back edge of the map as game starts, and the CV isn't positioned there.

Maybe you are right, perhaps it's really a bot.

Anyway, don't get me wrong. I am not blaming DD players (I m CA main) avoiding risks, as understandably DDs are very fragile. It does no good to team if DDs rushes and die.

Just that this particular DD I found very unconventional and selfish, since it's wasted a few minutes beginning of the game.

what i am ask is what is the DD type, my Kleber and Mogador can reach 16km range and phew phew from afar. they nerf khabarovsk otherwise i will do it too but from 15km

if you see :

- French DD

- Russian DD

- European DD

- some IJN Torpedoboat built

- some premium DD

dont expect them to Cap..... their role is supporting main DD or destroying enemy line.

the best DD for Cap Rush is German and British DD, due to their Hydro and smoke.

I can't guess exactly what is happening but most likely he's waiting to see where the planes are going and where the radar ships are.

Yeah we are, a good Enterprise player can knock off 12,000HP or or more and planes are ready immedately, we have to wait for our torpedos to be ready. I don't go to the back of the map but I do sit amongst the CAs and BBs at first for AA.
