Atlanta and stealth changes

It has been discussed on the forum before but again we have changes to Prem ships (and line ships) that make it something it was not when money was paid.

We all know about Texas and  Atlanta being AA platforms and then losing that to AA changes, now Atlanta is losing its range assuming you ran AFT. Because most people run AFT. If you don't you get an 11km range on a ship that see's tier 9 battles. Where after said changes some BBs may have secondaries that go further.

So once again, A ship people paid money for becomes a very different ship and possibly worthless to some players.

WeeGee, please explain to me why I would ever spend money on your game again when at any given moment the thing I spent money on becomes useless, or at least not what it was that I spent the money on?

(And i'm not taking away from the people who spent time /coal/xp etc on other ships this is happening to, just that prems are a direct money sink in game)

If a ship is sold and has an obvious playstyle or reason for being bought IE gimmick -long range torps/AA/speed/radar/smoke whatever, and you stealth nerf by changing mechanics then that ship needs to change to keep its original intent. Or if it is OP then just don't sell it, instead of selling and then having to stealth nerf.

Back to the Atlanta. Take away it's huge AA ability and now range what do you have left? A piece of wet paper that can be destroyed easier than a DD,  has to get in a lot of radar range to even shoot and lets not mention planes. /cough  rockets.

You have screwed us with the PR (still no apology), the NTC/RB fiasco and ship changes, now more changes without thinking .. or with thinking and not caring. Why should we spend money on your game?

Will the lack of AFT be addressed on ships that clearly need it? Like how some ships that needed IFHE to work got "built in IFHE" that saved 4 points?

Throw us a bone, we might open our wallets again.

It’s reasons like this that I think WG have to separate the captain skills of cruisers. Make two separate skills trees, for over 200mm and under. Or 3, greater than 210, 150 to 209 and less than 150, or 4, Under 150mm, 150 to 200, 200 to 250, above 250 or something. Cruisers have huge variation between them, especially with the premiums, and with the proposed captain system, I see no reason why they can’t treat different caliber ranges as different classes as far as captains are concerned.

Of course that said, I wonder if the reasons for removing AFT are related to the two OTHER sub 150 gun cruisers. Smolensk and Colbert.

While Atlanta and Flint are not overpowered, and Often need the range to perform In battles, I could understand if this stealth nerf was meant to hit those two.

Same thing with super cruisers missing out on BB skills, was this designed to nerf these already powerful ships?

For a low skilled player like me, I’ll take every leg up I can get, so I dislike having these skills taken, but when the ships are powerful, I can understand why they might have an indirect nerf (which would be fine if WG didn’t go overboard).

But overall, WG need to be aware when changes hurt ships, and not makes changes that do. Nerfing a ship that needs it does not justify nerfing a ship that doesn’t at the same time.

Well this is just something that constantly happens in this game.  Premiums don't get directly nerfed, but their power levels change dramatically based on global mechanic changes.  There's nothing we can really do about it, but argue for a buff for a particularly weakened ship and hope that WG agree.  Atlanta could use a buff right now, and as you suggest, even more so after the captain skills rework.  Having said that, there will be plenty of balance changes to the captain skills between now and the 0.9.11 release, so we don't know exactly where the balance will end up at this stage.

I can think of plenty of ships that have been hugely affected by global changes.  My Blyska has never recovered from the open water stealth fire removal.  Haida was absolutely smashed by the IFHE changes.  Stalingrad got severely nerfed by both the BB AP changes (it used to be the best anti-DD ship in the game on release), and the supercruiser fire duration nerf - and it will be nerfed yet again with the captain skills rework, as it relies heavily on a BB survivability build.  Enterprise got buffed hugely by the AA rework of 0.8.5 - 0.8.7, and the engine boost nerf, both of which significantly increased its power compared to other CV's.  These are just a few of the most egregious examples I can think of off the top of my head, but there wouldn't be many premiums in the game that have been out for a while that haven't had their power level changed due to a global mechanic adjustment.

100% I don't think WG has considered all the implications of the proposed changes. Particularly with second and third order effects (as I've mentioned before).

In this particular case I can't beleive they didn't think about it considering Smolensk and Colbert.

If they have just thrown up their hands with Atlanta and 'we'll worry about her later' they might never get around to fixing her...

Hopefully they're just going to slap on a range buff to her.

Of course, these things can and will change. So I wouldn’t worry too much until we see version 2 or 3.

I get a lot of premiums by gambing, lucky SC drops or in game events.

I'm not overly fussed about changes to random premiums that I just randomly get.

Now I'm not saying she is a particular shipfu of mine, but I specifically purchased Atlanta for specific reasons.

I asked on this forum (as I often do) about a premium ship choice when I was considering buying Atlanta some time ago.

"She needs AFT," I was told rightfully at the time...

"If you want a strong AA escort cruiser, get Atlanta," I was told rightfully at the time...

I also bought her for Ops. I think there may even have been more T7 ops than Narai at the time...

I'm on board with you here @Tagnbag and everyone else who is angry about this.
