Just thought I'd test the waters in one PvP battle.

Yeah not bad. Island hugging was good. Getting out spotted by everything was bad. Hydro to spot all the long range torps was good.

I kited a North Carolina and an Oland away from the battle and died in a corner then my team swept up the other flank and got us a win. Teamplay I guess...

 

Oh, so much XP I finished a Yamamato stage. Yay for x3 XP in the Mainz bundle.

Well, that’s... good? Bad? I don’t know, what’s your opinion on CVs again? You do play them in ops, but no T8 ops...

Suppose it would be ok in co-op. I think Saipan is considered the worst T8 CV these days?

She’s certainly not the AS ship she used to be.

I sold her for doubloons back when the rework happened and bough Sharnhorst.

Yeah...Ops is about my only experience with CVs lately. I had been wondering about learning CVs in PvP. Not sure. My CV stats are extremely woeful.

Overall I don't have an opinion on CVs. I kind of feel I can deal with them. Mind you, I do tend to play botes with good AA so... there's that.

But yeah... how to Saipan?

Saipan is literally what happens if you let Midway to impregnate Baltimore. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Sorry, Never knew how to Saipan to start with. Bought it on a whim when I was a noob CV player because WG dangled an offer in front of me and I wanted a “powerful” CV.

I’ve since learned better to fall for such tricks.

How I played pre rework was just as that AS *** who worked to nullify the enemy CV, with mixed results, especially when up against another Saipan.

Post rework... Network can’t keep up with CVs anyway, so I don’t play them, but wouldn’t have a clue how to Saipan anyway because her gimmick was completely different.

I wouldn't say Saipan is bad, but it is a very unforgiving CV to play.

It does have some strengths - its planes hit hard and are pretty accurate - but you need to be skilled in CVs to balance out its flaws.

You have the lowest plane regeneration of all CVs so plane losses will hurt really bad. Saipan is especially weak to fighters as your Tier 10 planes mean nothing to them. Doesn' help that Saipan doesn't have the biggest plane reserve to begin with.

Do not get caught out by fighters and if you do, hope that you have enough speed boost to zoom back to a friendly ship so they can shoot down the fighters for you.

Also your T10 planes, while great at T8, will not be enough when you are in real T10 matches.

On a sidenote, Saipan doesn't have any long-range AA, so it is much less useful in late-game situations where CVs may start tagging along with the fleet to provide mutual AA support. Plus it is super squishy.
