I have been playing in T5 to t10 random battles. Tier hopping as part of a division mostly. I played around 60 random games in the last week.

It has become increasingly apparent that the team with the more competent CV player has a distinct advantage over the team whose CV player is less skilled. I can not state that it decides the battle every time. However it certainly has produced a lot of battles in which the team with the more competent CV player wins.

I can not shake the feeling I have encountered this before.

I can tell you I have played plenty of games where I carried my team and outscored the enemy CV and still lost just because the team played poorly.

Like this game I had today for example.

Ceteris paribus, of course a skilled CV player should have a bigger impact on the game than a less skilled one. If a unicum can't outperform a noob in a particular ship, that ship is badly designed. Period.

The idea that CVs are the sole dictators of winning or losing is a false belief brought over from the RTS days. After the current rework, the onus on AA defence falls on the team, because CVs can't effective protect the whole team anymore. At most they can plug in the gaps in the team's AA defence network. And it doesn't matter how skilled a CV player you are - you will still take big plane losses if attacking into shared AA. Whether players share their AA and move as a team depends entirely on the players themselves, not the CV.

CVs no longer have the vast carrying power of the RTS days. The sooner WoWs players realise this and stop blaming their losses on CVs, the faster they will improve. But of course it is easier to point the finger at a scapegoat then to have some introspection.

CVs certainly can't carry like they did in RTS days. And since CV's can no longer directly counter enemy CVs, its less to do with one CV having more skill than the other, and more to do with how well the team and the CV work together to create an advantage.

This includes spotting, picking off damaged ships before they can escape, forcing ships to move in certain directions to avoid ordinance, and nullifying DDs.

Of course, as I said above, its also how the team works together. A CV that just picks on big juicy targets instead of creating advantages for team, though spotting etc... isn't playing effectively enough. And A team that does not take advantages of those opportunities (such as shooting that spotted DD, or broadside cruiser) isn't being effective enough either.

Basically, teams that use teamwork are better than teams that don't. And in my experience, unless you are part of a div, all teamwork is accidental

Hi

I think as Crygus_Triss points out the Competent CV is one who works with the team on spotting - and who finishes off near dead targets who go dark and heal up.

Often I ve been in a flank that is getting no targets while the red team gets into position with impunity. Mean while the Bot like CV is focused on torping some BB on the other side of the map.

But really I blame WG - they let bots rule the waves and reward mostly dmg - so they farm dmg.

I think the real difference is,  do they play for the team - especially with DDs so few.

As some one a point this game is built around concealment.

thanks
