How can a Carolina BB and a cruiser get to 7k of me in open water without me being able to see them?

I saw no smoke only their guns firing then they appeared and of course it was a pretty quick death after that.  I seem to not be able to see other ships many times but they see me easily.  I must be missing something.

Check you client folders and search for "wowsreplay" files. Then find the recorded replay of that game you've mentioned above to prove what you have said.

Your world of warships folder, where you installed the game. There is a folder there called "replays", which holds all the replay files for your recent matches.

Hi all.

If you ask someone to replay, it means that you are a fanatic of this game and you can never notice how the game can destroy the pleasure of the game - only because those who create it are guided by their own reasoning
Never happened to your target suddenly disappear from view, almost in the immediate distance? It happens almost every day, especially when you are visually better than others and are able to pull people with you. To win.
Don't look for replay - a question about your game is shown by a fanatic who doesn't believe him, and WG didn't show him how to treat players properly.

I offended someone?
Show me the place where i have offended anyone
You won't show, because there is no such place
The truth hurts - because it is supposed to hurt - especially the one that hurts YOU, fanatics - because YOU are a fanatic, not seeing how you are used.
My english is not correct? But which english - american slang, australian dialect or real british-english?

You demand a replay from someone, because you haven't seen similar situations yourself - but they were and are - but you are so blind and staring at WarGaming, that you do not want to believe in their crumbs and errors in the game - which really is a lot.

One last thing - forget to hear/see from me any sentence in political correctness - it never was and never will be - the truth will be shown along with her nudity - you don't like it - don't look -  thus you show that you are a hypocrite.

  1. This is "Newcomers Zone" Section. You'd think someone posting here is a relatively new player, and maybe confused by a game mechanic. We're just here to try and explain what happen, and we wanted more information.
  2. I did not ask for a replay, someone else asked for it. But OP thought he needed to look up internet, I just explained that replay files are on his PC.
  3. How are YOU helping? Can you explain to OP what happened? Instead you're going off something about "It happens almost every day, especially when you are visually better than others and are able to pull people with you."
  4. Maybe YOU are the fanatic, since you suddenly decide to use that word. We're not here to say what WarGaming doing is right or wrong.

The game is underdeveloped regarding client-server communication and without having a "tunneling" or dedicated "port" communication loses packets - that is what the game receives from server and what it sends.
Depending on the location of the server and the time of packet transmission, it happens very often that the packets are deformed or simply die.
Which was perfectly explained by IT specialists, but was not noticed by amateurs from WG.
That is why errors appear like disappearing bullets or disappearing opponents.

By demanding someone replay, because "such a situation did not happen", you put yourself in one place in every case - where there are fanatics of WG products.
Seven years ago, the Middle Kingdom released a World of Tanks clone. Everything was visually identical, tank models, even the maps were the same. However, the difference was in the way players selected above tier 3, RNG and several other differences that showed how the game should look like.
The game has been removed - a pity because it had potential, but it perfectly showed that the selection of players for the game, magic RNG and problems with client-server communication can be solved.
What WG can't solve since alpha stage - people are looking for an alternative when the game behaves uncontrollably. And this happens regularly and often.

ok let's defuse here.

I had no idea there was a replay kept and it might help me.  I have been enjoying life since my last post and have not worried about it.  I will make sure to find and check out the replays folder when I need to learn.  Thanks

Nothing to worry about. I only asked for it so I could get an idea of what was happening to you in game and it seems someone  came in here and just had a complete brain fart.  There are plenty of guides available about how the visibility mechanics work.   Search YouTube or the wiki.

I've thought about it a bit, and my guess is that there was a cyclone on the map. Sorry for derailing your thread for a bit.

Ok I have to revisit this thread because there is obviously something I am missing in the dynamics of how this all works.

I have found the replays and watched it.  I set a smoke screen and the BB was about 4.5k from me.  It disappeared so I sat and sneakily chuckled to myself as I knew I was going to unleash my torps.   Then it appears 1.8 k from me, instantly acquires and I am dead.

I am struggling to understand how he was invisible to me until 1.8k from me.  Cheers

From what I understand, if 2 ships are within 2 km range of each other , they can detect each other even though there is island between them.

Thank you for your response however this does not address the issue.  I am trying to understand why, in open water, I lost sight of him at 4.5k out and did not see him again until he was 1.8k out.  I was inside my own smoke screen.

You were the only ship spotting the BB.

When he was 4.5km out you were completely enveloped in your smoke. Therefore your spotting range reduced to the hard detect range of 2.0km.

By time you noticed the BB, that ship had crossed 200m. Therefore you identified the ship at 1.8km.

You can only sit and hide in smoke if:

  1. One of your team is able to continue spotting for you;
  2. Your targets are far enough away that they cannot charge your smoke screen; and
  3. An enemy ship is not within effective torpedo distance of your position.

When the BB went undetected, the BB player took the opportunity to charge you down.

ok so what you just said was my smoke blinds me as much as it hides me unless there is another friendly player with eyes on the target?  Fair enough and good to know.

Also, picking up on your comment of "when the BB went undetected..."    How can you tell if you are 'undetected'?  I know I see a notification when I get detected however I am unsure of when they can no longer see me.

Thanks for your response.

The BB will have the Detected warning on. When you became hidden in your smoke, the BB detection warning disappeared. Hence the BB knows that it was you detecting him and that he can "safely" charge your smoke. Given that there is a good chance that you (DD) had or were about to fire torpedoes at the BB; the BB has not much too loose charging your smoke. At least it puts the ship in the most favourable bow-on position to take the least amount of hit and minimises the damage incurred at the same time.

Sorry, I had a memory fart. However, it is immaterial what ship type it was. The mechanics are the same across all ship types.

Since you have raised the the scenario, a further point to remember. If you had maintained contact with the BB and fired your guns, you would have been instantly detected as your detection blooms to 5.4km (Fiji) or 5.5km (Edinburgh). DD have reduced detectability when firing in smoke. Around 2.5km for stealthy DD (<6.0km standard detection) up to 3km and over, for gunboat DD such as the Russian and French lines.

I hope this has helped you understand what occurred during your tussle with the BB.

Yeah I am getting a better understanding of the mechanics.  Makes sense that I cannot see out unless friendlies have visibility of the target.

I am learning to be less gung ho  and getting isolated lol
