xmas challenges and mid tier play

So I just noticed the xmas challenges need to be done in order, and the first one needs Gorizia .. so am I to understand that if I don't have Gorizia im screwed? On top of the NTC resurrection and PR, this is my holiday gift from WG?  So here's a gift, but first spend on a Gorizia or ignore friends and family and grind it real fast?  

I feel like the time of giving is all about my wallet ... 

And WG (im sure you are paying attention and care, like you tell me), you say you want more players in mid tier? Free advice:

1  Make the Puerto Rico an open event (no end date) but make it a grind done in mid tiers.

2  Make the unique captains a grind, also mid tier.

PS: If you take no zoup's advice on Public Relations, you might still have players next xmas.  I hope you do.

For the past 3 years I've played, there have been 3 premium ships up for grabs as a Christmas/New Years event. Graff Spee, Duke of York, and Prinz Eitle Frederic.

In those last two (can't remember about the first one), you could use the Premium ship you earned to unlock several T6 tech tree ships.

This idea isn't new, you earn a premium ship though in game missions, then use it to unlock some tech tree ships. Or if you're lazy/loaded, you can buy it.

I like it, its a good idea, and you are getting a premium ship for free (sort of).

And Gorizia isn't that hard to earn, yes, the directives are arduous, but you get a lot of time to do them in, even if you only play a couple of hours a day. And I believe there was a whole argument about being harder than they the previous missions for DoY and PEF...

But the lesson is, WG never give anything away for free, time or money.

I do not quite recall, but its quite some while ago that WG introduce 2 kind of event reward, either its a premium ship or an early access to a tech tree ship , latest of course is the Italian Cruiser and well #PaytoRico ; there are events that reward other stuff , say Halloween event that reward tokens for you to buy something. The concept is nothing new and nothing wrong but the implementation is awful and the misleading advertising before hand simply made thing worse

And as regard to mid tier game play , well actually high tier also .. its not just about the grind and the reward its over skewed game MM these days ... when you keep putting 3 Cv into mid tier game and what 6 or 7 BB with 1 , 2 even 3 super cruiser and certainly 3 or 4 Radar thrown in , which mean the game is excluding people who simply play the humble tech tree DD, CL, and CA for most parts ... I've seen mid tier game of 6 vs 6 with 3 CV per side, and High tier game where there is 1 CV, 7 BB, 2 Super Cruiser ( both side ) and guess what that leave 2 slot for those poor 4 DD ( me included ) and the worst part is that such MM is not only common its all too often just becoming the norm .. so well reward is not going to made me play mid tier again cause I am playing for fun not playing so others can had fun on farming me as the offering on the altar

I was referring specifically to Christmas/New Years events.

I can’t even begin to list the premium ships I have earned though other events. Be easier to list the ships I’ve actually bought.
