I thought that I had better post this in it's own thread....  something else for people to talk about, add memes of their own etc

A Brief rundown on the year 2019

Time travel back to a WG staff meeting, at planning HQ, December 2018;

"All right, staff,  we had a bumper year in 2018, a few mishaps along the way, but we are confident that we are passed those now, we are going to be introducing some more exciting changes in 2019, CV changes, Russian BBs & other goodies that we know the players will love"...

WG explains the changes & adjustments during 2019..." The road isn't always smooth when implementing new content..."

1971461302_giphy(5).gif.9fb55b5aace9df7bae7c7d7c32daad6d.gif

"As things go, they are looking brighter for us, thanks to all the dedicated bot farmers...err... dedicated gamers around the world, & our positive changes are not hurting our business model..."

Y7M2vm.gif.1dbe15aafb5fe1754f291a757dafa49e.gif

"OK OK, the Rubbish Burn Heap needs some adjustment, so we will change the legendary mods, camos & other things, & we have changed our minds about giving away ships to players if they donate to charity through us,  & we have just brought out Italian cruisers, & they had nice coloured tracers behind the shells as you fire them, but then in this latest patch we took the colours away because they weren't historically accurate...  Everything will be great for 2020, you'll see.... "

943099433_giphy(3).gif.55e34723b60f479e0a3ad342065e279f.gif

"Just a few last minute adjustments in time for Christmas, & for kicks, so free players "can" (or maybe not) have a brand new Puerto Rico end up in their fleet.. (Depends how dedicated they REALLY are of course"...)

Here we come, 2020, can't wait for next year...

Can't wait for more BS monetized content, nigh-broken ship lines, delayed ship releases, still obsolete lines, et cetera :Smile_glasses:

If I had to respond to an incident in X-COM near wg hq, you can be sure that I will bring extra Megumins in my squad. That would summarize 2019.

so the NTC er Research bureau that a huge percentage of players said should be cosmetic and not give performance boosts to the ships and unbalance play .. so that's back? really?  The unique upgrades are now unlocked by re-researching lines? The very thing that most of the player base doesn't have time to do .. that was THE issue of the year (untill PR) .. the one that the CC's were dumbfounded by but spreadsheets said were fun ..

tell me i'm incorrect.. tell me WG are not ignoring the player base .. again ..

On the upside bots may disappear as there will be no willing buyers ..

Broken ships are rushed where as delayed ship releases are balanced just enough so that good player could advantage from it while not so good one would end up not being good at it.

In the end saying you're getting unbalanced ship at the same time angry about late ship releases is like (I'm having hard time to find the right word/example here so I'm leaving it to your imagination)

CCs/testers: "Hey WG these ships are not as you think they are. We think they need to be buffed/nerfed before rele-"

WG: "La la la can't hear you"

CCs/testers: *still testing some ships*

WG: *release a ship that is completely not tested thoroughly* (First Graf Zep release)

Community: "Hey WG the CCs/testers are really satisfied with this ship, and they have been in testing for a long while, when are you releasing her?"

WG: *forget about that ship for another quarter or more*

WG: "Our timetable, along with our spreadsheets, is our god"

@Ordrazz

High quality post my dude.

But lets look at the positives shall we?

[....]

(you were expecting me leave it blank, weren't you?)

1. CV did get reworked, they did get balanced, and unless you are braindead and dont know how to play you are not going to be rolfstomped by them. Last time I checked even the 6 CV meme games at T4 had subsided. Admit it, they are fine now.

2. Two of the three new tech tree lines introduced this year were largely successful. French DDs, Italian Cruisers. Russian BBs are not a great addition to the game, but we've come to live with them more or less.

3. The MM has been improved.

4. Take this or leave it, but: the best parts of the game is still separate from the worst parts of the monetization grind. The tech tree progression is as it always was, and its still relatively easy to get mid tier ships for free, and play high tier ships for not very much real money. If you don't want to collect premium ships or participate in the NTC or coal economy or the special events or even clan battles and ranked, you don't have to.

(Snip)

Your points are true, though you forgot to mention that it did take about 11 patches after release, for the CVs to become tolerable...

The best things in my view to happen this year, was the Halloween missions, especially collecting the filth with the 3 separate teams, that was wonderfully executed, because the teams could cooperate, everyone could get their fill, & the bots were super challenging & didn't stop coming.... Rasputin was the perfect lure, with all his little minions, & when the time ran out......

The skins were excellent, & so were the screaming sounds & atmosphere.... & when the patch came through, the monster ships were better, as their spawn points were randomized, as was their behavior, so the mode never got dull or tiresome... & it brought team play to a new level..

To a lesser extent, the earlier event for the DDs (the building collapsing one with the shrinking circle) was still pretty good but the mode got stale after about the first week and a half, and also the space event it was pretty good but then also went stale after about the first week and a half... those type of event do very well if they were patched in the middle of the events to randomise and shake things up a bit like they did with the Halloween one.....

Another bad Point for this year was the removal of some of the missions and scenarios,  we need them back & some more scenarios, because people enjoy playing them, maybe some Axis scenarios... The Dunkirk one is fun,  maybe WarGaming can make a scenario, where a massive bot fleet is trying to break out of a harbour blockade, & its the teams Duty to try & stop the break out there's an idea for the Dev team to think of for a scenario...

The Mad Max/Waterworld spin off event was notable for the excellent background music and atmosphere. The game mode was too twitchy and arcade-style for my taste, though. Needless to say I ignored the Benham grind.

I had completely forgotten about the space battles. A lot better than last year, as the visibility/aiming issues were solved by making the ships sail on a "space ocean" instead of a transparent plane. I liked the "Bionic" camos they awarded, too. Again though the game modes didn't really hold up, and participation wasn't high either.

I skipped the Halloween event entirely, avoiding the filth collection missions. I think you are in the majority though in enjoying those, they seem to have been popular and successful.
