5 PingalPratyush Member 1 post 29 battles Report post #1 Posted September 20, 2019 Hey commanders! I'm Pingal Pratyush, an aspiring video games journalist from India. I write for Spiel Times, and thanks to the PR agency I work with, I had the privilege to attend Wargaming's World of Warships relaunch event in Delhi, India on 18th September 2019. At the event, the company announced India-specific content, their partnerships with some well-known Indian brands. National ship camouflages, India-themed skins and lot more. I had an interview slot with Publishing Director Victor Bardovsky and Executive Producer Artur Płóciennik where I asked them a lot of stuff, starting from how they're planning to monetise the game in our country to the release date of the submarines update. Here's the entire story - https://www.spieltimes.com/news/world-of-warships-india-relaunch-everything-you-need-to-know/ And here's the video interview - https://youtu.be/j4Nl_3t9qNI I hope the information comes in handy for you. Cheers and have a great day ahead!

227 LonerPrime Member 459 posts 4,576 battles Report post #3 Posted September 20, 2019 I am from India and I thought WG sought India as the last market when it came to gaming. Last time I checked this country isn't as gaming savy as the eastern countries. Wonder what made them take an interest here...

3,096 [MRI] Thyaliad Member 4,468 posts 22,506 battles Report post #5 Posted September 20, 2019 Very illuminating. So I take it this won't be a separately run server like China, but rather Indian players will be routed to the EU server. But I assume Indian players will still need to download their own Indian client? If not, then I wonder how WG is going to create content and customise pricing exclusive to Indian players when they are using the EU client.
3,582 [-CAT-] S0und_Theif Member 6,596 posts 23,523 battles Report post #6 Posted September 20, 2019 (edited) In my experience APAC (Asia Pacific) region goes from Japan, New Zealand, and usually ends either in India or Pakistan. Anything beyond Pakistan is counted as EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region. This news changes that. India can now play in both APAC and EMEA servers. Just need to look into the pros and cons when migrating. Russia is counted as EMEA, but since they have their own server, all 12 CIS countries are under that server. There may be some players joining APAC or EMEA servers. Australia gets to have the best and worse of both worlds. They can either join in APAC server or NAM server, but the usual complaints is latency. I'm not sure which one gives a high ping. Sometimes, LAC (Latin America and Caribbean) region have their own server, but with few players in Latin America, they are merged with NAM server, or NAM sever can accomodate Latin America players. IMO, the lesser the server division, the better. Players can encounter other players from other regions and not be limited to a region lock. And eventually a 12 / 7 Clan Wars. The problem is our current technology is not mature enough to handle the game in a global scale. One day I hope to see this become a reality. (Inter-region clan wars are the prototype for now.) I am with Telstra, and at the moment I get approximately the same ping to both servers ( ~105ms ).But the connection to the ASIA server fluctuates constantly slightly while the NA is steady. When the game first launched I had about a 60ms ping to the ASIA server, but by the end of 2015 there were problems with the cables to Singapore.Connection could hit 150ms with it varying contantly by about 20ms.It has impoved slowly over time but has never been as good as OBT.

I'm not sure if this still holds true, WG transferred their server from SG to HK. Their reason was "Shark Attacc" the cables (though I doubt it is true). Moving to HK "should" have given AU customers less latency, but IN customers will be too far, and will feel the increased latency. On the other hand, servers in SG can accomodate IN customers but leave behind AU customers. It's a give and take.

Yeah the shark attacks are true and AUS/NZ players have had unplayable periods because of that. But I doubt WG cares that much about the players to move their server. From what I know and feel, I noticed a better connection and lower latency lately playing here in SEA compared in 2017 when I started. I do still get 120 ~ 1500 ms but only during peak hours for 4 hours compared to 6 to 8 hours. Even off peak hours. Since its only written as "ASIA" server, WG can hide where there servers are located in SG or HK. Unlike in WOT where you can see 2 locations (used to be 3). I can only choose 2. Please correct me if I am wrong. But I do feel improved connection on both WOT and WOWS in recent times compared to 2017.

I ended up playing most of the time on my NA account for a year or so before just swapping back and forth when I felt like it.NA has always been a more steady connection for me.Although I have been only doing Co Op and Operations since late 2016 so the lag on the ASIA server doesn't affect my games as much unless it gets really bad.
