I know this has probably been brought up before but i was wondering if we will ever see torpedo boats or PT baots in this game. Just imagine sailing along with 5ooo horsepower the turbo spool screaming from you speakers as you hit 5oknots. Then you bump into a enemy destroyer you run straight at him and launch your two massive torpedoes and run off at 5o knots again for the long reload.

I would love this well this and U boats. Just wish they put MBT's in game just to try em out it is beta after all.

No. No, we won't be seeing torpedo boats or U-boats in this game as they don't really have a place in this game. If you want to play a torpedo boat, go play up the Minekaze.

i havent played the game but arent secondary guns just going to rip it to shreds. plus it will add up to torpedo hate

WG also be "Word of God" says subs are no go.

why would you put a Main Battle Tank on the ocean?

Imagine also the fighters strafing your deck with .50 and 20mm fire. Imagine the splinters from an HE shell killing half your crew and setting the fuel alight. Imagine the Torpedo boat Destroyer (thats where the name comes from) tooling along at 35 knots dodging your 4 torps with ease while raining hell on you with every single weapon on board. *MTBs* as a rule did not do particularly well against capital ships.

Adding an entirely new class is more of an alpha test job anyway. Theres not a lot of likelihood of any additional classes being added to the game before release (Battlecruisers and Pocket Battleships will likely be folded into BB and cruiser lines).

I personally am all for torpedo boats not so much U boats, U boats do not have a place but destroyer destroyers do, The American line vs japanese line has proved that enough for me.

Destroyer destroyers are Cruisers.

Torpedo Boat Destroyers are Destroyers, the ones we already have in-game.

You are so against any ideas anyone has lol, torpedo boats would be awesome fun, could easily make them balanced and it only adds more variety to the game, could compare them to light tanks in world of tanks.

It is at the very least worth trying while the game is still in BETA.

Its not like it would take much work to do, WG had enough spare time to re skin tanks with modern tank skins for an april fools joke so i do not see why they could not model some torp boats and throw them into the beta and see how it goes

Torpedo boats are typically armed with machine-guns and 4-6 torpedoes in fixed mountings. They're also, as people have pointed out in the other threads, pretty much oversized engines stuck on a thin-hulled boat. Yes, boat, not ship, as torpedo boats aren't really used in the ocean environments that fleets battle in. Heck, torpedo boats don't even have a place in a fleet. They're used as commerce raiders against unarmed merchant ships (because frankly, anything's capable of stopping an unarmed merchant ship - look at what modern Somali pirates use to hijack container vessels) or ambushing units in a night battle or attacking a fleet at anchor (which destroyers or planes do better, and right now, isn't what gameplay in WoWS is like).

Having ideas is fine, but the entire point of a forum is that we open up the ideas for criticism and feedback. Honestly, all this is moot point as WG has already stated they're not adding torpedo boats nor submarines. I am simply illustrating the historical reasons behind why torpedo boats don't have a place in the game, and how it's virtually impossible to balance them up against purpose-built combat vessels such as destroyers, cruisers and battleships. If you want to try the fun of a torpedo boat, grab a tier 5 or below IJN destroyer and conduct attacks under 5km range. That's torpedo boat gameplay for you.

MTBs were little more than a couple of massive engines an several hundred gallons of fuel with a few torps and AA guns strapped on top. They were incredibly vulnerable to everything, and were mainly used in night attacks because that limited the threat of return fire. Damn good for sinking unarmed transports and smaller classes of vessel (barges, sampans, and the like) or simply patrolling against other PT boats, but they really dont have much use in a large naval  engagement.

And of course, destroyers were initially designed to counter them, then later supplanted them in the torpedo role.

Simply put:

WG have stated nothing smaller than a Destroyer will be included in game.

4 main classes :

Destroyers, Cruisers, Battleships and Carriers

(some sub-classes of these e.g. BattleCruisers, Heavy Cruisers, Light Carriers, Escort Carriers, Fleet Carriers etc.)

I'd love to see PT boats as a possible special game mode (like World of Tanks winter showdown or the chaffee racing (hey PT boat racing!) or maybe... :hiding: ...a special submarine mode?
