I just got the Monarch and I scored ~100k in my two games I have played so far.

I have installed a concealment mod and a 13 point captain with:

PT, Shell loading expert, Expert Marksman, CE. I forgot what my 3 point skill was.

What are your opinions on the ship?

It is not a good ship. It is squishy and has limited range. You have to take very good care of the ship's broadside or you will take large chunks of damage. Especially since the citadel was raised recently.

It has a mediocre Repair Party. You will not be able to recover easily, if at all, if your ship suffers high damage hits.

Research the GFCS module first to obtain a decent range on Main Guns. Then get Hull B. Lastly research the Propulsion module.

Upgrades in Slot order: Main Armaments modification 1, Damage Control modification 1, Aiming Systems modification 1, Steering Gears modification 2 & Concealment System modification 1.

Add Adrenaline Rush to your Captain.

your HE is your main source of damage

It doesnt have the crazy fire rate

Only have warspite level of heal

Spoiler

AP is just utter shet to use

Not a fun ship to use overall for me

Tier 3 skill to have for BB is superintendent for the extra heal. As mentioned Monarch is not the strongest T8 BB in either guns or armour. I have T10 Conqueror with legendary mod and it is great fun to play, even after the raised citadel nerf, as long as you know how to angle properly. Plays like a real battlecruiser with excellent handling, great armour and great guns both AP and the godlike HE. Conqueror is still very worth it, IMHO, so stick it out if your goal is to get Conqueror.

For your future points, I would look at adrenaline rush for the faster reload across the board as you take damage and/or save up points for Basics of survivability or fire prevention to improve your tankiness and longevity.

I find it quite capable. 100k on a stock ship per game is news.

Well I agree that HE should be the main source of damage, AP isn't unusable either. I could do nice damage to an Ashitaka and citadel a Nelson. You just have to find the moment to use it, such as a broadsiding lower tier BB at close range, or on CAs such as New Orleans.

Maybe I am one of those players who can play weak ships well.

Well, neither of those ships have any real armor. I have citadeled both with Scharnorst with ease despite having the smallest caliber gun for a BB. Monarch (or literally any T8 BBs) can do well against the same & lower tier ships. However if the MM decides to put you against the higher tier ships, may God help you.

The other T8 BBs may have less problem against the higher tier ships:

Bismarck - has long-ranged secondaries, and almost impenetrable citadel (broadsiding is still not recommended though).

North Carolina - has strongest AA, and long-ranged 16 inch guns (all 16 inch guns are capable of punching through T10 CAs armor from many angles).

Vladivostok - has the strongest frontal armor (only penetrable by Yamato & Musashi, and short-ranged 16 inch guns but deadlier accuracy at mid to close range.

Richelieu - has the all-front gun layout which nullifies the need to show any side when firing full salvo, fastest top speed, and somewhat better fire chance on HE shells than Monarch's.

Amagi - has the most number of guns of all T8 BBs which are also 16 inch.

Eh I guess you are right. Monarch doesn't have any distinguishing trait, and the vaunted RN Heal is basically non-present nor the HE rounds.
