Is target acquisition module a good fit for German BBs?

Just have this thought. Does it extend your hydro and making spotting a DD within your secondaries range much easier/longer?

wondering if anyone has tried this. For so long concealment module has been the default for me.

Spotting range is the overall distance u can spot

Range of assured acquisition range is instead of guaranteed spotting enemy ship at 2km, you will spot it @ 3km instead, 1km earlier

Torpedo acquisition means like for example Shimakaze 12km torps will be spotted at a 1.7 km, You will spot it at 2km

Doesnt affect hydroacoustic/secondaries

Target Acquisition System Modification 1

Increases maximum acquisition range:

+50% to range of assured acquisition of enemy ships.

+20% to spotting range.

+20% to the acquisition range of torpedoes.

The spotting mechanics ignore line-of-sight obstacles — such as islands — when within 2 km (3 km with this upgrade) from an enemy. That's the "assured acquisition" range. Stacks with Vigilance when spotting torpedoes.

Key question is what does spotting range mean?

if a dd has concealment of 6km, does the +20% make them spotted at 7.2km?

Got the answer here: conclusion then this module is pretty useless.

Another value is view range(sometimes called spotting range), which also doubles as a ship's render/targeting range. This is the range inside which other ships might be detected or spotted. It is indicated visually by the outer limit of the grey cone on the player's minimap in battle. No ship outside of this range can be detected by the player. Allied ships and enemy ships spotted by others that are outside of view range are not drawn on the main screen but are displayed on the minimap as outlined icons.

You can see the differences gray triangle (this is your spotting range) between two screenshot.

right is with target acquisition upgrade

That is what upgrade said "+20% to spotting range"

From what I’ve read, TAM1 does not stack with Hydro.

Vigilance stacks with hydro, and Vigilance stacks with TAM1 for a minor spotting increase in torpedos, but as soon as hydro is activated, TAM1 is ignored.

If you want an increased base detection range, without hydro, then it could be useful there, but honestly, there’s not enough return out of it. That slot has two much more useful upgrades. And Vigilance is much more useful because it stacks with hydro.

TAM really is an outdated gane mechanism ; it was even back then questionable even for DD going out to do spotting and now with spotting duties primary a CV and Radar play this module had practically no value to anyone at all or at least a very minimal one

Current meta don't encourage players use that module much. Doesn't mean you cant use but when you used it, the limitation is your own idea on how to read the map better because you will be spot way sooner than anyone else. It used to be a good module back when they first introduce it but now it lack-luster.

I don't think that module was useful when it was introduced let alone now.

The existence of this module is a sign of bad game design. Acceptable (even fun) in an offline singleplayer, but terrible when it's a team vs team online game.

No one uses that Upgrade. Not even BBs.
