Possible game mode idea for future consideration.

One team protects the convoy from point A to B while the other side tries to smash it to bits.

Suggestions anybody?

Good idea but game balance would be hard.  how do you overcome the uneven nature of the game mode?

 

Wouldn't be uneven, AI bots control the convoy and everything else is normal, at least that's how I see it working.

since its AI controlling ships... you need to watch out where you're going or else... you'll ram/scrape your sheep.

dosent need to be AI controlling ships for that issue to happen

Open sea is the best map for this Mode (Probably)

and there is 3 option

- Full defence against enemy atack

- Let's get dangerous (Agressive)

- Make into 2 Divisions one attack and one defence

There was an escort mode "co-op" battle as the play room for PaX - wouldn't be much different to this I'd think - that was quite successful.

Yeah, we know AI controls the convey ships. The issue will still be game balance, loop holes, etc.

It would be tricky protecting the convey vessels from torp bombers if the convoy was AI controlled.

It would be tricky protecting the convey vessels from torp bombers if the convoy was AI controlled.

 

I imagine the convoy would be pre programmed to do a basic zig zag but they'd still be predictable, defending would be difficult.

If the "one team attack/one team defends" turns out to be too hard to balance   the obvious thing to do would be to make the gamemode symmetrical - both teams have smaller convoys that they have to defend. Perhaps each team would have to defend a series of carriers full of ground troops/tanks/whatever and get it to the enemy's island? That'd be a pretty cool idea.


 

If the current suggesting goes through though, I'd imagine they would have to tweak the way AA works to give a more concrete defence against torp bombers; maybe give a boost to AA defences when they're around convoys?

Carriers should be made aware that they need to help the team deal with AA-capable ships before they can smash the convoy up with torps and dive bombers.

I think this gamemode should encourage thoughtful defensive gameplay rather than the mode devolving into either AAAAAAAAAAA KILL THE OTHER GUYS or just bumrushing the convoy and hoping you can do enough damage to it before everyone dies.

Didn't Wargaming come up with something similar in World of Tanks (escorting tanks)? If memory serves it only ever took off on the Russian Server as the devs believed it would not be received well elsewhere.

Field day for CV's and Kitakami's. One full salvo from a Kitakami can take out most of the convoy.

Except all the enemy is american with powerful AA and deadly fighter

think afew FPS games do have something like this though can't remember who it was but it does work with AI being the vip and players doing the escorting while the attacking side are players.this could work with some link to clan wars like having to protect your supply lanes maybe.

The idea is to have the supply ship unvulnerable/receive reduced damage as long there is a ship near them, or just untargetable

yeah have it as untargetable so when the last defender is sunk or fail to escort it to the safe zone in time they lose other wise the attacking fleet will go straight for the supply ship and ignore the escort fleet. have it so the supply ship needs at least one escort to be within a set range of it so it will keep moving to the safe zone.you would also have to take into account that the supply ship would be traveling slower speed maybe even to a battleship.

I'd rather have the cargo ships take normal damage but they will in the center of the convoy. approx 8-10 kms inside the convoy. Team must prevent enemy ships from breaking their defense and sinking the cargo vessels.
