I was actually kinda proud of my karma rating, which pre-CV-rework had hit a high of 32.

I play nicely, never insult people in chat, and am not AFK.

Recently I've noticed a huge uptick in downmods. Currently standing at 19. Sure, I still get the occasional complement, usually for helping out people with smoke, but for every +1 I get I get 2 downmods for .... reasons.

Things I've noticed:

People downmod you when you lose the game, that is to say you've carried your team but still fail to win. So people downmod the boat at the top of the leaderboard for losing the game, yeah...

I get the impression people downmod you for killing them.. i.e. sending 8 torps into the side of their nice shiny full health battleship. Or for causing their team to lose by doing really well.

This kind of stuff would be easy to ignore, except people don't usually complement anymore with any kind of regularity. I know, I should ignore it anyway ... but still. Attracting nothing but abuse there's no point even having it.

Anything above zero is amateur hour.  Try the ST norm of never having any karma.  Its refreshing.

Out of curiosity, what do people upvote for?

I often give several karma points each day, usually to the top of leaderboard, or for people who I thought were really helpful. Such as players on my flank which helped push.

Of course, I often lose karma for not playing as well as people think I should.

Or for making some silly mistakes, going in to hard to early on and dying.

This I'd be fine with, if I got Karma when I did well, but even when I play well, even when I top the scoreboard (which is rare) I get nothing?

I've wish it told you who gave you a report, so I could ask them what I did wrong and how I could improve. Except the answer I would probably get is "uninstall the game"

I complement supportive teammates or those who I deemed were critical to the team's victory.

This covers many activities, such as leading a push, smoking up allies, providing spotting, delaying caps etc. Sometimes you can tell which players are supportive simply by looking at their position on the map.

I also complement those who carried the game. Usually you can tell who these people are because they several hundred more base xp than the next person.

I compliment far more often than I report.

I report for TK, AFK (sometimes), and racist/abusive chat (always).

I compliment, not always but often, the top boat on each team, or occasionally some other player who contributed notably.

The reason for my rant above was not the karma system, but the sudden negative change in the last couple of months. Players have stopped using it to complement, only to report. I was wondering if it was just me or if it is a general sea change since the rework.

If its just me, and since I haven't been playing or behaving worse than I did before, then I'll have to put it down to either a) playing better than previously or b) playing DD more often than previously.

I suspect b). DDs seem to be everyone's punching bag: A loss is always the DD's fault, while a win is never credited to the DD's skill. And then you get the people who get angry because losing their ship to a DD is "unfair".

In short: playing CV must indeed be a karma drain, but so is playing DD. I don't think I've ever lost karma playing a cruiser...

Who gave what why should be made public. Not a secret papal conclave vote. Otherwise a complete waste of coding into the system and a few bytes per player for information storage.

PS. On a vaguely related note, has anyone notice that since last week, you cannot see who gave what smiley in the forums even when you are not logged in?

PSS. I gave you a snigger because it is amusing that people reported you for doing your work.

Huh, you’re right. Obviously the Saltys don’t want the Snowflakes to know who downvoted them (I say this as a bit of a snowflake myself).

Pity, I like knowing, when I get downvoted after posting an opinion detailing the pros’s and Con’s Of CVs, That the guy who downvoted me was a known anti CV supporter who likely downvoted me because I dared at looking at the problem from both sides.

I wonder if this change is listed anywhere?

Although I don't really care who downvotes the cv posts, since I know it HAS to be an anti-cv who cannot face the reality, I just am curious to know the silent anti-cv faction. 

Personally, I look at the hahas and serious support to determine the sane and amusing people.

Wait, you used to be able to see who gave what smiley? How did I not know this? My ignorance continues to surprise me, every day I seem to learn things I didn't know

Also to the OP, it's karma, that thing that you can lose even if you carry a team just for being too good, or for sinking somebody or because somebody was in a bad mood, just ignore it and you'll feel much better

Yeah, don't know why this happen, but you could still see who give what reactions to your post on your profile feed.

I think the idea is that players can vent quietly. If it was made public then people might as well just rage in chat. With that said though, I would like it if the system said which team did the reporting and why. I am curious to know how many of them are from salty enemies upset that they were bested. It would be funny if the enemy reported me for "Inappropriate behaviour' because I devstruck their division mate (hey it happened to me before, or at least I suspect).

Heh, if you are a true snowflake you wouldn't want to know you were downvoted in the first place.

But I too would like to know who was doing the downvoting, especially on the more reasonable and objective posts.

Haven't been playing much lately but I smelt this post.

Every now and then I daydream and my thoughts flow to German Battleships and a hail of secondary fire... sigh...

Or I imagine myself on the deck of one of my US cruisers and the sky is alight with AA tracer and burning enemy planes... sigh...

Then I play the actual game... sigh...

Not only edible, it flavours all you put it on with GUDNESS AND GREAT SKILLZ.

Improves flavour, makes your secondaries more accurate and give your greater map awareness.

I will upvote enemies who are reasonable in chat. (Like ones who commiserate with you when your own team is trash and you get smashed badly).

Upvote anyone who is funny or entertaining, whether my team or not.

Upvote good players whose focus is on the game, playing well and trying to win (either team).

Upvote people who work in with me, communicate with me or just "do the right thing" (people who support my Tirpitz push, share smoke at good times, know to slowly move with my Perth etc).

Upvote people who say they are upvoting me 😄

As an aside, there is/are someone(s) who read this thread and cannot handle the reality of truth. 😄

As a double aside, I only upvote 1) sensible posts and 2) people who deserve it. Hahas are purely for amusing articles. 
People don't get downvotes from me: only my perpetual contempt for ignorance, though, sometimes I think I hear the faint barking of a tiny canine but I suspect I must be hallucinating.
