I have not played very much PvP for a while. In the last week however I took my Gneis, Scharny, Alaska, Colorado, Buffalo and Sims out for a wee romp (but only a wee romp).

I didn't feel overly affected by CVs one way or the other. In fact Lady Buffalo with DFAA blazing and AFT on her captain managed to knock down quite a few planes and although focused by the enemy CV (because I ran it down and killed it) I was a bit "meh" about its affect on me. (I had been kind of hoping if/when I get back into PvP my love of the USN line would somewhat mitigate any negative CV effects on me... am I right or wrong here?)

So, maybe my ship choice suffers less from CV effects than others but I wasn't as concerned about new CVs as I thought I was going to be.

BUT...

What I DID see was rocket planes hovering over DDs without even shooting - just perma spotting them until the enemy fleet opened up on them and then finally making attack runs on them...

And I was like, "man, that really sucks..." and I recalled all the "DDs are doomed" threads on this very forum and nodded my head like Earl in silent agreement as a result of what I was witnessing.

SO... I just got a 30% off coupon... anniversary gift thingy... and I have kind of wanted Haida for some time because...

I have HMAS Vampire and HMAS Perth and... well... that's about it for the Commonwealth fleet 😛

THEN

I looked up LWM review again and the main strength of HMCS Haida seems to be her concealment...

Is that still true?

Do you have Haida? Have you played her much in the current game? Would you buy her again (30% discount!) today? 

Edit: Because if current CV meta means concealment for DDs is no longer a thing I'll spend my money on getting something pretty in another game I play - in case my question wasn't obvious.

Can't comment. Don't have Haida.

Spent my 30% discount on Arizona because I wanted a premium BB for T6 operations that wasn't French, British or German.

Haida is good, the RNDD smoke is probably the best smoke for this meta and Haida is quite possibly the best DD at T7 in terms of game performance, you wont regret getting haida if you know how to DD in this meta

Don't see many Haida out these days. It's one of these ships that really dropped out of favor after the hyped-up release.

Haida is a great ship, and it's still good in the current meta.  However, given the ranges you operate at while in the Haida, it punishes awareness lapses very hard indeed.  It punishes any sort of poor play indeed actually, so if you aren't quite confident in your DD play then I would probably steer clear of it.  It works best against enemy DD's, so low DD numbers will limit effectiveness a bit.  I've managed to be quite successful in it, it's one of my favourite ships.

In the CV meta, you have extremely poor AA, so you need to use your excellent air detection and smoke, combined with a knowledge of where to position and when, to counter CV's.

Haida has Commonwealth creep smoke, not RN DD smoke.

No actually, I really like Dunkerque. It's a fun ship, fast, and back when I got it I spent a lot of time trolling BBs who would keep firing AP at me bow on.

Bit harder to use these days in the HE spam meta, but still using it in ops to train French captains. Does well in Aegis against the broadsiding ships, if it can survive the whither HE volley from second wave. And can tank and sink the two north BBs while on 10% HP.

No, I didn't mean it that way at all.

Warspite is awesome, and P.E.F is... good in operations.

I wanted something other than  German, French and British, because I already HAD a German, French and British T6 BB, and while they are good ships overall, and all good at training commanders of their respective nations, they can't train US commanders.

My primary goal in WoWS is to grind all the lines. At present, I have every line* at T7 or greater, so T6 operations don't help my overall goal (and I still do a lot of ops for near guarantee wins for daily missions). However, I can use T6 operations to grind commanders for my higher tier ships. And since I'm still grinding the US BB line, I needed a US BB.

My Dunkerque and Warspite still get a lot of use training my Alsace and KGV. (I've already got a 19pt captain on my GK)

So, yeah, TLDR is, I wanted another T6 BB of a nation flavour I didn't have because, diversity. Or it could just be my twisted logic.
