Feel free to post your own "DD at the Top of the Ops" screenies here, but I just wanted a public place to post some of my own screenies to point "some players" at when they complain about me taking DDs into Ops.

It's not a brag thread, honest... it's just for evidence that DDs can do well in Ops - if in the right hands.

Just get a wee bit tired of people saying that DDs are no good for Ops.

(No I'm not saying that DD are the King of the Ops or anything like that - just that they have a strong role to play in the right hands).

It is very sad when dd tops the scoreboard. Personally I have done that so many times I have lost count.

Also, when a NM shares top two spot, I am very sad at the rest of the non-CV players.

I was once one of those people who thought you shouldn’t bring DDs to Ops.

Then I saw what good DD players could do.

Then I did that same thing with DDs in Ops.

I still think that doing well in DDs in ops is harder than other ships, and not something inexperienced players should attempt. I also think that having more than 1 DD in certain ops when great DPS is needed is hard.

And while you can do well in IJN DDs in ops, I think that’s harder than the other Nations.

But yeah, I always feel good when I’m a DD top of the OPs.

I take my dds out for a harder challenge! Challenge my abilities! No risk, no rewards!

DDs have always been capable of topping the scoreboard in ops, as long as the DD player knows what they are doing.

Problem is many don't.

Post-rework, I am very sad for the rest of the team when the CV takes the top spot. Unfortunately, that happens quite a bit.

Oh god. That situation I have been in, albeit on the losing side. Killer whale, Furiously trying to salvage match when team disintegrating like -bleep- Too many places to be in. Trying to Furiously fight fires and attempt an escape.

Slow as -BLEEP- Very situational. If you get caught in the wrong place and time, very difficult for you to respond given the so-so range of the guns. Especially when your team is peanuts. If you happen to be in the right place when they are peanuts, you top the board.

re: Will To Win.

My team had all sunk, except me, before the convoy had been secured.

I was able to take control of the convoy, then go on to sink the 3 BBs.

The ace up my sleeve was being able to remain undetected. Would any other class of ship be able to accomplish this?

I imagine your story is very similar.

DD = master race.

Decided to bring my Farragut into Newport, was called a dd noob who was going to cost the team the win at the start of the mission, ended with 154k damage and a natural selection.

A good DD player can easily hunt down other DDs who might otherwise slip through. What they lack in range, they make up for in speed and manoeuverbility. And their burst damage torps allow them to take care of big targets as well. Smoke helps for versatility.

That said, you lose a lot of team DPS if there are too many DDs on team.

DDs also have the added benefit of forcing the enemy to turn to dodge torps. Very useful in delaying enemies that are approaching the base perimeter.

Snipers of Newport. Farragut performs very well if you are bold. The detractors detract because they play passively and 'hope to win' rather than 'create a win'. I have done this many times and ended up top as 'the crazy dd that was madly torping and shooting at close range running all over the place and nearly dying on many occasions yet still manage to survive with a decent/almost dead health.'

thats how i usually play my dd's in newport, no point trying to camp a win out in that mission as the enemy eventually will overwhelm you.

This is the op when plane dropped torps and DD torps are actually useful for forcing direction changes.

I wish more CV pilots worked on forcing enemy to turn broadside in front of allied ships.

Unfortunatly, I’ve also seen occasions where the CV will force an enemy ship to run aground or turn around way back at their spawn point, which means, if you’re trying to sink all ships before the main attack starts, you have to wait till it gets closer.

I’ve also seen CVs force enemy ships behind islands, away from allies guns.

What i’m Saying is, you have to anticipate what the enemy will do and will it benefit the team. It’s a lost cause isn’t it?

Just to show the opposite of a successful op - 3 Stars only: DD AND CV tops despite the dd being the first to die. Obviously you know how much support there was. My two colleagues were the only ones giving any substantial support. -_-

DDs carried this op.

Too bad it was only a 2-star win because the BBs were playing snipers of Newport as usual before deciding to suicide into the Izumo and its escort DDs.
