Possible Ideas for CV exclusive Scenario''s

While it is clear that the current build for CV's is not well thought out, it is also clear that CV's will be staying like this for a long time to come. However the new style of gameplay does open up the possibility of CV exclusive operations similar to Dynamo.

While I very much doubt we'll see something like the Attack on Pearl Harbour, the NA server would probably start an open revolt if the devs implemented it, there are plenty of other opportunities for CV's.

One possibility could be an alternate version of the Attack on Midway/The Battle of Iwo Jima, where a group of four or six CV's have to attack a heavily defended atoll while also defending themselves against incoming waves of land based bombers. With the carriers having to use stealth to approach the islands while keeping outside the patrolling enemy. Once the CV's get into range, they then have to destroy the land based defenses using either attack aircraft or dive bombers. This then moves to destroying the infrastructure on the islands such as the airstrip, the hangars, the refueling zones and the shipyards. The arrival of a fleet that is responding to a distress call from the island base would be the third objective, with CV's having to alternate their attacks between the islands and the incoming BB's, CA's and DD's.

Its part of history..... Also with current CV rework it will be possible to make it interesting.

NA can go mad max, but i doubt it since its country of freedom. If it went mad its mean NA player is just fascist about their military prestige.

Pearl harbour is the grand opening of CV era. America wont produce more CV if pearl harbour never happened.

The British night attack on the Italian port of Taranto in November 1940 could probably be a better candidate for the Grand Opening of the CV era.

Those Swordfish torpedo planes were "state of the art", at least in British eyes. From Wiki below:

The Royal Navy launched the first all-aircraft ship-to-ship naval attack in history, employing 21 obsolete Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious in the Mediterranean Sea. The attack struck the battle fleet of the Regia Marina at anchor in the harbour of Taranto, using aerial torpedoes despite the shallowness of the water. The success of this attack augured the ascendancy of naval aviation over the big guns of battleships. According to Admiral Cunningham, "Taranto, and the night of 11–12 November 1940, should be remembered for ever as having shown once and for all that in the Fleet Air Arm the Navy has its most devastating weapon."[2]

Or make it an CV exclusive, PvP battle? 😛 a bit like arm race (compete for certain objectives, maybe no need to have historical backgrounds.

Taranto is definitely a good possibility but in my opinion it lacks some challenge as the Italians were caught completely by surprise during that raid. And only Torpedo planes were actually used. However modifying the scenario to include the destruction of the shipyards and drydocks, could add additional challenge.

Bah. Let the easily triggered NA snowflakes revolt. Pearl Harbour was the dawn of the CV era.

But if not Pearl Harbour then perhaps a Scenario based on the Battle of Coral Sea?

While it is overshadowed by the more famous Battle of Midway, it was still pretty significant. It was the first CV duel in history and the USN would suffer their first CV loss during this battle, while the damage the IJN sustained would end up contributing to their later defeat at Midway.

Here's my suggestion:

1st main objective: Ensure the invasion fleet sucessfully captures Port Moresby. If either the invasion fleet or the player's team takes too many losses, the invasion will be called off and the Scenario ends in a loss.

1st secondary objective: Repel the air and DD raid on Tulagi. If this objective is completed, land-based aircraft from Tulagi will provide recon.

2nd secondary objective: Sink the Sims and the oil tanker Neosho before they the leave map.

3rd secondary objective: Save the invasion force's light carrier Shouhou from the Lexington's and Yorktown's air attack. If the Shouhou is saved, she will continue escorting the invasion fleet, providing them with CAP and strike aircraft later.

4th secondary objective: Sink the aircraft carrier Lexington.

5th secondary objective: Sink the aircraft carrier Yorktown.

Additional notes:

1) The invasion fleet will be harassed from time-to-time by land-based strike planes from Australia and Port Moresby.

2) After saving (or failing to save) the Shouhou, the player's team will start getting attacked by the Lexington and Yorktown.

3) If the Sims and Neosho haven't been sunk, they will leave the map shortly after the Houshou objective ends. Good teams will have to split up their attention if they want to get both stars.

3) After the sinking of either USN CVs, their surface escort fleet will make one final desperate push towards the invasion fleet, attacking anything along the way. The remaining USN CV will try to leave the map. Players will need to split their focus again.

4) Port Moresby is protected by forts. They will do good damage to the invasion fleet unless they are taken out.

So this is kinda like an alternate reality what-if version of the battle if things had gone differently. (Historically the IJN failed the main objective and only got 2 out of 5 stars :fish_aqua:)

I tried to keep the flow of battle as similar as possible to the historical one, but it is pretty tricky as a lot of things were happening simultaneously.

So take it how it played out in BSP. One thing that could be added as well could be Elco PT boats that arrive from Port Moresby to attempt to sink the transports. This again will split the players attention as they try to deal with fast attacks from both air and sea, and have to manoeuvre together accordingly.

Rockets against PT boats could be very interesting... :cap_hmm:
