In this battle a moment ago, one DD charged in heedlessly, taking damage from 2 forts, an enemy DD, CL and BB. He was at half health before a single enemy had died.

One allied CL was AFK and did nothing and another CL died early in the first phase.

"Just exit," I sighed in exasperation to the remaining team, thinking all was lost, "lets try to salvage a couple of stars at least".

Then the remaining CA, a Pensacola catches up with me as we leave the bay and enter the target rich environment.

We fight together, gelling somehow without speaking. We alternate getting the attention of the enemy BBs, taking a lot of damage in the process but keeping TWO ships afloat and firing by doing so.

We change from HE to AP almost simultaneously as a fresh enemy cruiser enters the fray and shows us his broadside - a well oiled team that has never fought together before.

The allied CV makes accurate and effective strikes - changing targets when a BB is almost dead instead of hogging the kill - it is more effective for me and the Pensa to finish it with fires than for the CV to waste a whole squadron strike on it.

Somehow me and the Pensa make it into the exit zone and time is short. No one else can make it into the exit zone in time and an enemy BB is about to spawn on us.

We are badly damaged, the incoming Bayern could finish us with secondaries.

We hear it's horn, crying out for vengeance upon us as it enters the battlespace.

If one person dies, we will have half the fleet in the exit and win.

I tell the team this.

Without hesitation, one of the DDs says, "I'll do it" and selflessly hurls his tiny brave ship upon the enemy guns, dying bravely, heroically alone for the team.

5 stars.

You just can't pick it sometimes.

Compelling story. Never underestimate the ability of a few good players to pull a Victory from a complete defeat. 

I both love and hate the end requirements of this op. It requires a nice bit of tactical strategy, a bit of basic observance and planning. You actually have to think a bit.

Players must make a choice, can you complete the bounds objectives and still make it out? Are you prepared to sacrifice yourself for the team? Farm damage for another 5 mins or bank a win? Can you allies make it, or do you need to make sure you get there. You can learn a lot about players by watching how they perform in this op.

At this point in the game, most people are very familiar with this op, and you’ll get 5 Star at least half the time. Be interesting to see what happens next time WG decide to change it up a bit. Or if they introduce the new CVs into it.

WOAH!

That was brilliant!

The whole fleet swept into the main base and exterminated first phase masterfully and then spread out like an acrobatics team doing a bomb burst to cover all targets.

I ran out of compliments this game - and ended up with some more KAMRA myself. Oh KAMRRARA you are so valuable and worthwhile.

But seriously - when things go right...

HMAS Perth - you rock.
