And I mean, really, if you get a ribbon for starting a fire why shouldn't you get one for spotting an enemy ship? It gives a feeling of accomplishment, and should actively encourage scouting and spotting. I know it's customary to complain, but well done WG.

On the few occasions where my spotting damage exceeded 100k, I felt neglected to not be given any recognition for it. Any way you look at it that's a significant battle contribution.

How do fire ribbons work? Do we get XP for starting the fire or just the damage caused by it? I imagine spotting ribbons must work in the same way. If I had to guess I expect each fire/spotting/citadel/defend/kill ribbon multiples your XP by a given fraction. 1.005 or 1.01 say for fire and spotting, probably larger values for citadels and kills. I dont think any of the ribbons give you any specific XP. Rather they are just informational. However the work done to achieve certain ribbons or the impact of achieving certain ribbons give you XP. Like if you get assisted capture/capture/defended ribbons, you get the XP because you either assisted in capture or captured a base or defended enemies from capturing it. Similarly, for the fire/flooding/citadel/shell penetration info/torp hit/plane kill ribbons give you XP for the damage associated with them. IMO the spotting ribbon does not give you XP. Its more informational that you have spotted someone for the 1st time or someone who has been unspotted for more than 90 secs. Now if you are the only one spotting that particular enemy and other friendlies are able to deal damage to him, then you get XP for spotting damage.
