Some members of a clan cheated their way to Rank 1

I was playing in a game where there were some members of the same clan in the game. In fact one on each team.

What happened was the rank 2 person was playing, but the rank 5 person on my team was AFK.

When we discussed this for a few minutes, the AFK suddenly wakes up and comes back to life. Game ends we lose, this person on the other team ranks out.

How is this even fair?

Me and some other team member will be submitting replays to Wargaming. Do you think wargaming will review and strip the rewards of these players?

WG makes it their policy to not discuss any action they may take against the cheaters. You can go ahead and submit your replays, but don't expect any further response on the matter other than "we will look into it".

1. You are accusing the players of matchfixing. Matchfixing is by definition unfair, unsportmanlike, and presumably against WG rules.

2. The R5 player didn't have to be AFK for your team to lose. It would have been simpler and less obvious for him to just deliberately miss, or run into a torp, etc.

(2) + the fact that he "suddenly wakes up and comes back to life" suggests to me that the R5 player really was AFK due to a disconnect, crash, or "life" and had no intention of losing the game to help his clanmate. I also see little motivation for anyone to do it. If a clan needed ranked players to qualify for sponsorship or a tournament then OK I guess I can see it, but otherwise, why bother?

Without further evidence that he did this in multiple games, as a once off I'm inclined to think this was not deliberate. You are most likely reading a nefarious conspiracy into a random AFK event.

Nope person comes back in the thick of the discussion.

His response his game went black. When we discussed the whole thing.

I have never had the game go black. It either flat out crashes back to desktop or kicks you back to login screen.

The whole thing is too sus. Final game for ranking out?

I have had a few cases where my computer just freezes up and automatically reboots after a few seconds.

Again, though - why pretend your PC crashed in such an unusual way if you could pretend your PC crashed in the normal way and have a much more believable alibi? Why pretend your PC crashed at all when you could play the match and just play badly enough to lose and no one would guess?

There are all kinds of computer crashes. If the graphics card goes down, you can get a black screen. It's rare, but far from impossible.

It should be easier for Wargaming to determine whether he was actually disconnected, or connected but just went AFK. But I wouldn't hold my hopes high.

I am not sure if my observation is correct. Correct me if i am wrong.

If the player is not connected, the turrets will not be rotated. If they are AFK, then it would be rotated (observed the aft turret)

That is quite correct, however there are also known issues where you lose input control till you restart the game. In those cases, you aren't able to move the ship or the turret, but the turrets aren't in reset position either. Then again, pretending to be genuinely disconnected isn't hard either, just kill the process using Task Manager. So, I guess only supports can find out whether the accused user was guilty or not.

I think WG support would not know if WOWS is killed or there was a bug. The game saves a log file in local machine for diagnosis, i dont think the client sends the log file to the server. In the forum bug section, they requested for the log file instead of pulling from their side, so either they do not have the file, or they are lazy (I want to assume the former).

So I conclude that WG only knows that the client disconnected because no response from client, but it would not know what ended it until they see the log file.

there are far easier ways to throw a game, pretending to be AFK and coming back in the middle of it is the dumbest way to go around rigging a match ever

It easy to differentiate between crash & AFK in the start of the match. But limited to normal ship, not CV.

1. Crashed at loading screen, the player ship cannon will aligned in center.
2. AFK players, the cannon rotated either right or left.
3. Crashed at mid play, the player ship aren't shooting and keep moving straight.

I have to say that I’m tired of threads that start “I lost a game because………….”

By all means, submit your replay, WG can see more than you.

How do you think two players of the same clan can manipulate the game so they are on opposite teams? I guess if the queue is short, there is a chance. But they may be in one team, or in different matches, who knows?

They would have sync dropped and ended up on opposite teams which is always a risk when you do that. This isn't the first time I've heard of things like this in ranked either.

He hasnt played R5+ but seems to know its impossible.

Early evening 2 games going max. Sync drop chances are same team or opposite team. Ripe for exploit there.

Are you talking about me?

If yes, when did I say "impossible"?

Even in rank 9-10 its reasonably easy to do.

check players rear guns. if its pointing at the back then definitely that player was disconnected otherwise, his doing something which all of us has no idea... check the replay again.
