Conning tower citadels?

It is not part of the citadel in the game. You can often see citadel hit ribbons pop up when you hit the super structure, but that usually happens when your shell pens through the super structure and citadel roof altogether and hits the actual citadel underneath.

Conning tower itself is not a citadel.

Shooting at a bow on or angled ship you can get citadels if the shell pens through the bow or conning tower and also pens the citadel deck armour and explodes in the actual citadel.

If you use the armour viewer in game you can see what is the citadel and what isn't on any ship.

You can also get citadels through internal shell bounces that ricochet into the citadel.  This explains some of those weird cruiser AP citadels on ships that really shouldn't be taking them, and hitting parts of the ship that really shouldn't cause a citadel.

LOL. WUT? :cap_wander:

Yamamoto was killed by a strafing US fighter but he wasn't anywhere near a ships conning tower. He was in a transport plane over Bougainville when his plane and 6 A6M zero escorts were bounced by 16 P-38 fighters.

I actually lived on Bougainville island in the Solomon Island chain for 3 years. Never got a chance to go to where his plane was shot down. Maybe one day if i get an opportunity to go back.

can you explain how armored conning tower get destroyed by mere machine gun?

it wasnt transport plane, its bomber plane without a bomb to hide Yamamoto from getting assassinated. the japan realize they have been hijacked. also the japanese use a lot of fake information about Isoroku transport ship. TOO BAD, the fake info and encription is not enough to stop the murica famous intelligent work.

come on dude, watch the video AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN!

Yes I know what you mean. Don't think that WG will include this mechanic into the game anytime soon however. One RNG blessed shot to the bridge, commander killed and ship disabled.

Don't need to watch the video I saw the movie when it was released. :cap_popcorn:

The conning tower is probably one of the worst places to shoot at anyway, it's often the thickest armour (other than the belt, but sometimes thicker) and they tend to be round (or oval) so there's generally little chance you'd get a penetrating hit there.

If you're wondering what the real-world purpose is, they were "safe" areas to control/command the ship from. But as the visibility was limited in those spaces, often commanders used other parts of the bridge super structure where they were more vulnerable.
