Sit back on the blue line and snipe from 28km with impunity.   Scoff at players telling you to move up with the team.  Remember to say "IJNBB don't brawl.  IJN bestsniper"".  Do this until you get Yamato then pen everything.   Then complain when ships focus you.

Ensure you then change you name to some weaboo name and get a girly avatar.

Job complete.

Are they different from other BBs? You play them more or less the same way as other BBs. Only difference is, you try to avoid brawling. IJN BBs are not super effective super close combat. Also, try to be on the move and close to friendlies when there are CVs involved.

If you have more specific questions, may be for specific ships, then it might be easier to discuss. A whole line is hard thing to make a comment about. For example, Kongo / Fuso / Nagato / Amagi / Izumo / Yamato each one of these has slightly different playstyle that they excel in.

Never be frontliner in most of the ijn bb

Avoid showing your broad, you will get punished unlike german/rn bb  that could get away with it

ah IJN BB.... 10km from cap point, 13km~16km from enemy.....

TARGET ENEMY BATTLESHIP as priority, dont let them push. IJN have big gun, accurate gun.... but very weak and easy to sink.

if broadside CA present, rekt them.....

if there is CV, stay behind and look for AA ship. also constantly spam F6 asking for air support

- Myogi is sheet, so your best bet is ram another slow BB and fast XP to kongo

- kongo high arc shell is somewhat sheet and troublesome, just forget other ship and target big and slow BB.

- Fuso, the Susanoo of tier 6, you can basically rekt everything with its 12 gun.... the drawback is, its still fragile

- Nagato, improved AA and better armor, can somewhat brawl and got very big gun... too bad only 8 gun

never have, try the ship with friend account:

- Amagi, big gun, accurate, soo many gun, even Bismarck armor mean nothing..... its fast too! but, its fragile as crap lol

never try, just opinion when facing the ship :

- Izumo, the sheet of T9..... even Gadjah Mada or Algerie salvo can rekt this ship.... ez to burn

- Yamato, GREATEST GUN, accurate... but sheety citadel located to openly.... even henry4 can cause citadel to Yamato

I can't breathe. I'm dying!

Ok ... as I seem to be a natural born IJN BB driver (aka a coward) let me opine: success is all about being risk averse. You are fast, you hit hard, but you are relatively fragile. Run with the fleet, get in when the getting is good, get out when the getting is good. Don't be afraid to put on the moves mid-late game, but avoid closing into brawling range with anything, even a DD.:cap_cool:

Play mid to long range, don't go too far though...vertical dispersion can be troublesome at times but overall dispersion is good(not USN level though).

@Skarhabek summed up some valid points. Fuso is the pinnacle of the line in terms of fun factor, Amagi and Yamato are best as representatives of the line.... Izumo is the only notable issue in the entire line, worst ship in the game...

Amagi isn't exactly squishy, she can be trollish if angled right.

Basically with IJN BBs, angle and hit things mid range.

If you get caught in a brawl, time your shots, be patient and ctrl X your turrets to the perfect angle when they'll be broadside. I almost always win 1v1 brawls despite them 'not being brawlers'. I don't actively seek that engagement most of the time though.

Patience is also a good thing as dispersion can frustrate you at times, just remember that you only need to land 1 or 2 shells to get big damage.

Whatever you do, don't snipe.

I've wondered about the ctrl-X thing: are you supposed to fire with the turrets locked, or do you unlock at the last second before shooting?

I've run into this thing where all your turrets are pointed at the enemy ship, but since the turrets are moving still towards the crosshair they won't fire. I mean, I don't need all the turrets firing into the aiming reticule if the enemy ship is so big it doesn't even fit on my screen... anything in that general direction is fine!

Nah

It's to rotate your turrets to a direction so you can have them facing the correct direction earlier or so you can do other things.

Imagine you decided to do a 180 degree turn hard and fast. The enemies are on your right.

Once your turn is complete, they will be on your left.

In BBs and some CAs/DDs you will turn your ship faster than you turn your guns. Thus ctrl X... I use it all the time.

How do I play IJN BB's?

Badly, mostly, haha!

I like the Kongo, plays like a big cruiser, pretty much.

Have unlocked Amagi last week, just finished the upgrades. Very nice BB, but not a cruiser anymore! Too early to say more.

Izumo has been only 'average' to bad one in line I found, having said that I have gelled with Kawachii and Myogi, just took a lot of time.

Stand outs are Kongo to Amagi. All are amazing when played right

I have to admit I sold both as soon as I could. Still have Mikasa. Fun ship :)

Sounds like Amagi is something to look forward to!

I know her as an enemy and she is formidable at that.

Amagi is a pretty solid ship...those 10 guns are no joke, you can and will punish broadside targets with relative impunity but just as I said, the vertical dispersion can be tricky at times. Also, another thing to note is that Amagi gets Turtleback, meaning it is really hard to citadel it at close range, I've never had any issue brawling with it, it is a very versatile ship:Smile_great:

This...

With a bit of aiming skill (ie knowing your enemy) she can easily come out on top in a brawl against anyone...

I played IJN CAs and DDs before BBs.

After dealing with Myoko and old Furu turret traverse the BBs were far easier. The other thing IJN CAs taught me early after release was proper angling and speed control, not to mention aim and pre-positioned turrets.

Using those skills, adjusted for slower gameplay (ie used in a more time-effective fashion) I haven't struggled with many IJN BBs at all.

Good positioning of turrets and good angling/throttle control gives you an excellent platform for IJN BBs.

The only thing I like is, IJN BB had more cannons than the others BB. So the possibility of miss shot or chance to citadel are higher than the other ship. But mostly just 0 dmg for unkown reason.
