Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone who plays carriers, use the captain skill Evasive Maneuver for their planes??

i am toying with the idea for my Independence, but i want to know if anyone else uses it, as it slows planes down when returning to the carrier..... raises hitpoints though & reduces detectability....

Discussion please......

I tried it for a while with my Ryujo skipper but dropped it when there was a free respec. You can manually direct your planes back near the cv then Shft-F to have them land if there's no danger on the route and they'll do it at full speed - but that's more micro-management. I'm certainly no expert on this, but it didn't seem to be much of a gain.

Ichase had an interesting video on his YouTube channel . If you are good at micro on your CV then it looks interesting. Farazelleth also has an older clip

Not worth it imo. Slowing your planes down just increases your turn-around time and makes it easier for enemy FTs to catch up to them to land a good strafe which will still kill most of the squadron, just not all of it.

You can do the trick Moldovia mentioned, but I agree it is too much micro for not much gain. Though I suppose for low tier CVs with few squadrons it is more manageable.

I remember watching that but I am not sure if it actually works. Thought WG patched it so that the skill only works with empty bombers. AA RNG could have been trolling him.

But even if it worked, I still don't think it is worth it.

The skill is more of a liability than an edge.

The skill is perfectly viable for tier 6 and below carriers to prevent getting nuked and drain enemy FT ammo without sacrificing planes too much. It could allow a dummy squad to nearly eat up all FT ammo for right clicking.

At tier 7 and up, the skill become more and more of a setback than a pro. Why?

Because map are larger, taking the skill kill your turn over time and create unnecessary traffic jam when multiple squads return. Esp for FT and bomber returning at the same time for rearm is a big no no.

AA is alot more dangerous, with AADF being alot more common. Spending more time in an AA aura means more chance for a kill roll that will wipe out your squad. You want to get out of danger zone as fast as possible.

Players should be proficient in strafe by now, the skill will decimate right click FT but will make them sitting duck to strafe FTs. Being slower allow FT to catch up and strafe you to death.

There is also the fact that the slower return speed will not allow you to reposition, like using empty squad to perma track and reveal strong threats like torps and flanking dd.

Being tanky against AA at higher tier against AA based ship is meaningless, you are better off not eating it than dieing a few seconds later. And against no AA ship you are already damn hard to take down.

One often overlook upgrade for cv is the speed upgrade.

It seems harmless enough but well utilized it could allow a well positioned strike to be unstoppable due to how fast closing time is. Although plane durability is always nice a good cv can make use of speed to avoid unnecessary damage and maximize damage via turn around time

Thank god last time there's free-spec for it. I was using it too and definitely not gonna use it in the future. Slowing ur plane is just unwise tactical maneuver.

Never did, it's a disadvantage because FT has more chances to strafe your planes to a pulp.

So, its as I expected then, that its will allow my planes to be slaughtered more easily..... ill use my point somewhere else then...

If its that bad, then it shouldn't be there...

I use them on Bogue because my enemy can't strafe

That's the best tier for that skill to be fully utilized IMO
