Hello all,

Just a heads-up guys, between 10 and 16 February, all players will be able to reset Commander skills and mount the required upgrades for free. This was initially to be intended for the start of CVC season 2, but someone was happy in HQ that they decided to just make this available for all players and not just CVC.

Enjoy!!!:cap_like:

Since the promotion is still going on, It's been kind of a standard thing for me....have been running the steering gears mod 2 for all my dds for ages. Did some testing in PT server and found it very useful for german & pan asia dd line (sadly live server I don't play them)

However for IJN dd line.....The age old million dollar question

IJN dd steering gear mod 2 or propulsion mod 2?

Any feedback from excellent dd players using propulsion mod is very much appreciated

IMO for ships that have Ruder shift less or around 4s, propulsion were better

well, prob only Akizuki in IJN line need steering mod, since her handling were horrid, and gunbote generaly put priority on rudder shift

I dunno if I can give feedback, as I'm not an excellent DD player.

Anyway, the promotion is for Captain skills....

Steering and propulsion mods are ship upgrades...they are not free, and you can change them anytime.

I have propulsion on a lot of them.

For some it's a clear choice because the rudder so bad you have to take rudder.

There are a few that you need to weigh up based on your play style. If you out and out gunboat then rudder better coz you're moving.

If you do stealth attacks then I think propulsion is good. Especially when sitting in smoke or capping. You need to be able to move off quickly.

Up to your preference and playstyle.

If you sit in smoke a lot take Propulsion to gtfo once you see torps incoming.

Take rudder shift if you are to be gunboating or WASDing a lot.

Personally I take Propulsion for DDs with good rudder shift of less than 4s.

There is a free demounting offer going on at the same time as the captain skill reset.

propulsion, IJN DDs dont have the speed or agilty to WASD like USN or SVN, so you take propulsion and speed boost and run like hell

Look at ruddershift time and turning radius.

Even though radius cannot be changed, but its a good indication of whether you need a better rudder response or not.

If the ruddershift is within 4s or 650m turning radius, you dont need ruddershift mod.

I'm not an excellent DD player, I keep reviewing the upgrades and grab what makes sense to me. Depends on the individual boat, sometimes I find my preferences change, so I may replace upgrades.

Switching upgrades I don't think is free, that is captain skills.

Switching upgrades is very costly and I think the way handled in the game is a shakedown and forces players to spend doubloons if they wanted to save credits.

All DD's should use propulsion mod, unless they are long range gunboats who should use steering mod.

Wiggling is definitely good!  :Smile_Default:

Having said that, the reason you would use propulsion mod over steering is because if you ever sit in smoke and fire your guns, then propulsion mod will save your life a lot.  Rudder shift is already very good in most DD's as well, and the steering mod gets less effective the lower the base rudder shift is.  Last stand is irrelevant to this, because it doesn't really get used in the situation where you need propulsion mod.

Any DD that speed tanks needs steering mod however, because they tend to have poor rudder shift and the quicker you can wiggle the better.  That means most Russian DD's and the Blyska.

Ummm, you don't get much improvement on a 3s ruddershift anyway. It's a fixed %, the lower the base number, the lesser impact you have.

Spose it depends how you play and what DDs you play...

I run both, depending on the DD...

Sorry I said rudder simply for the wiggle joke... Lol
