The Duke's guns dont work

 These missions are the hardest ever. I bought the Duke for 2 reasons, 1- it makes it easier to get through the missions, and 2- because of the 9800 Dubloons payday for already owning Her when I complete the missions. HOW am I supposed to complete the mission that requires the Duke to Dev Strike something when its guns couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a shovel load of wheat? I have sailed within 4klm of an Akazuki, a Fiji, a Belfast, a Aoba and an Emerald and HIT NOTHING. FFS. IN nearly every other BB I would have sent them all on their way to heaven, but not in this heap of sh*t. Then you have the finish in top 3 of a winning team LOLOLOLOLOLOL I have finished top of the losing team at least 6 times, because I am busting my bottom to win but MM hates me and there are so many players playing ships hey have no idea about. On THAT subject, I played DDs for a couple of these missions and I was SH!t with a capital S and WON most of those games. I play BBs, the Duke is SH!T. I wouldn't use it for anything other than training a captain if these missions weren't on, I WOULD take my George out though, he knows how to be a BB.

They DoY isn't a bad ship, but the 18.1km does hurt it though. I would of liked the Spotter Plane as an option to trade out the Hydro... but then again it would just make it the same as the KGV.

Her dispersion can be very erratic, but it seems that its the rear turret that makes it so. The front guns i have good clusters of shell with most salvos i fire off.

She for sure will be a captain trainer. I'll stick in a 19pt Commander and just take her out on Missions and grind up ECXP.

I don't see the problem you guys are facing. Sure the dispersion can be a bit erratic at times but not always. And the HE is pretty damn strong. Just got my DoY today from missions and already got several devastating strikes on cruisers.

Its a pretty strong ship though the armor is lack luster

As I understand it the DoY and KGV have almost the exact same play style, and certainly from what I've seen people play them the same, as large CA's rather than BB's. The only real differences that I've seen is the increased AA on DoY.

I agree with OP. I've given up trying to get the Dev strike and working through the torp missions instead (first try with Gearing got >90k torp damage). DOY is a piece of crap and I hate it.

Btw OP - pretty sure you will get 14 million credits - not doubloons - when you finish the mission.

In this area, WG is quite smart. They create these missions, often with a reward and a deadline, and arrange it so certain ships give you an advantage. Many people will spend more time playing the game, or spend more money to buy ships or flags, to have an advantage to complete the mission.

That’s all good as long as people *enjoy* the game.

If playing becomes frustrating or annoying, I think something is wrong.

I can remember a campaign where I needed 1600 base XP, and I just couldn’t get it. Tried for days, really got me frustrated. The day after the mission was over, T8 game in a T6 Galant gave me a 1800 XP win. So instead of enjoying that win, I was even more frustrated.

 

Since then, I have taken a step back and decided that I play the game to enjoy it, achieving missions/ campaigns is secondary.

 

If the reward is a ship, so what, you can buy the ship at one stage anyway.

 

If there are missions like “among the best three of your team”, or “disable main guns three times”, that’s something I cannot achieve consistently. I would have to wait until match-making and luck puts that in my lap, and until then I may suffer a lot of frustration.

 

I still review the missions and select tasks. When I can complete the tasks or entire mission while I enjoy the game, fine. But I decided not to get frustrated with particular tasks I cannot crack.

 

This may not help you with your problem hitting ships, I know. But knowing KGV and assuming the DoY uses the same guns, you really shouldn’t have that problem. You say you cannot hit at 4km? You should be able to hit reliably at that range, if you lead properly.

I can agree with the OP, there are a few times where at 5 or 6km away I've landed one hit with a broadside, RNG can be pretty fickle with DoY, there have been other games where I've scored citadels on BBs at max range, if you're on target its just the luck of the draw. Still haven't got a dev strike with it though

The KGV has access to a Spotter plane so it will out range the DoY by quite a bit. 

Standard AA on the DoY is meh to say the least. I would soon rather have access to DFAA rather than Hydro cos vigilance could take the place of Hydro.

IMO building a full AA spec would give up too much on the accuracy, and also would be expensive when you take into consideration the Commander skills needed to make it viable. On top of that... for me i probably see 1 CV in 6 games, and all i do is escort Cruisers who do have better AA.

That doesn't make the slightest difference apart from easier smoke shooting. 18km is already stretching your inaccurate guns to their limit already, we don't need more speshul people sniping from j-1 with their spotter plane

Really? I found it fairly easy to be honest. Also I seem to get Dev Strike in that ship often. Find a UK CL/FUrutaka/aoba/pensa[and similar things like atlanta, indiana] 1 salvo and its done. Also the ship is given a hydro & good HE, head into a smoke put a DD out of its misery, if you take a torp or two just use R and retreat to heal back up. -_-'

Lol, I tried a few battles in CoOp and the guns felt.... horrible. Compared to most other T7 battleships.

Have a noob drive an omaha and you get lucky. Omaha can be citadelled by BB HE !!.

Btw, i give up with the DoY main gun. AP caliber is too low for its tier to be reasonably effective, accuracy is too bad for its caliber and its ROF is too low to set fire regularly with that squeaky turret traverse.

Just burn stuff. After multiple attempts I have given up on using AP on DoY. I find her guns to be good, and am often very happy with the grouping. And I love the arctic camo.
