World of Warships’ popularity with modders led to a large number of player-made modifications (“mods”) hitting the scene.

It’s important to us to address the safety of particular mods and shed some light on the situation, and put an end to scuttlebutt about mods you may or may not use.

Popular mods usually deal with cosmetic and audio components of the game and are mostly harmless. However, some players and modders have built or offered mods with malicious intents, such as gaining a competitive advantage or even stealing data.

Below is a classification of mods and programs and the rules we will apply to them and follow from now on.

Allowed

  • Applications that stream or record gameplay (e.g., NVIDIA ShadowPlay; Plays.tv; AMD Radeon ReLive; OBS Studio; Windows 10 Game DVR; Fraps)
  • Voice/text chat with overlays (e.g., Discord; Mumble; TeamSpeak; Ventrilo; Evolve; Twitch Messenger)
  • Visual mods that change the appearance of game objects without affecting the gameplay (to make sure the mod you want to use is allowed, please consult the appropriate thread on the official forums)
  • Modifications to lighting, contrast and other visuals done through the tools of the graphics drivers (GeForce Experience; AMD Radeon Crimson; Intel graphics drivers), without modifying said drivers or applications that use them
  • Replacing/modifying audio files
  • Any mods approved by our team -- find those on our official forums in the "modifications" section.
  • All mods compiled exclusively with our own modsAPI (a special interface made by our developers for modding). We also allow mods that are mentioned by our staff on the game's official website

Disallowed/Forbidden Mods

(Seriously, this could lead to temporary suspension or blocking of your account!)

  • Any applications/mods/scripts that allow the execution of third-party code, change the game's original files, dynamic libraries or inject themselves into the game process. If you are not sure whether your preferred mod complies with all the rules, please consult the "modifications" thread  on our official forums or simply refrain from using it
  • Applications/mods that help a player to aim in any way that is not already available in the game, which includes any predictive aiming mods
  • Bots/scripts that take away any aspect of the game controls from the player
  • Applications/mods that make otherwise unknown information available, except for those mentioned and approved on the official forums or portal

We understand our players like some of the mods that go against these principles; however, we do and always will prioritize fair play. Competition in World of Warships should rely on your skills and expertise and not on the ability to choose mods well.

“Gray Areas”

Since there are so many mods for our game at this point, we are sadly unable to guarantee that a mod will function correctly if players use it.

Seemingly harmless modifications like ReShade are cosmetic in nature, but work in a way that violates several rules at once: it uses dynamic library substitution and controls the rendering process, which allows an aimbot or keylogger into the code. This makes it similar to some forbidden mods that allow those with malicious intent to gain a competitive advantage or, in some cases, steal your data.

We recommend you take the above into account and follow these guidelines if you plan to modify your game, and of course suggest that you use only the mods our team has vetted.

If you're unsure about any particular modification, simply refrain from using it. Any issues with the game, or a loss of account or personal data related to mod use is the player's responsibility. If mods lead to a violation of game rules, we reserve the right to suspend or ban the account.

Remember, we don't officially support mod functionality, so if you're running into any errors while using them, try launching the normal game in "Safe Mode" using the drop-down arrow next to the "Play" button, then uninstall or otherwise remove the mods.

Captains!

Here is your new WG ModPack for 0.6.13.1.  If you have any questions, please reach out and ask. If you notice anything weird in your client after installing, please uninstall the mods.

http://dl-wows-gc.wargaming.net/projects/mods/mods_pack/Release/WOWS_MultiPack_beta_0.6.13.1.exe

Remember folks, you must download the new version of the modpack for your mods to update. Otherwise, you will get an error when trying to start the game.

I dare bet that it is Disallowed/Forbidden Mods

Everything in Aslains modpack is 100% ok to use. I use many features of it. This really only gives you better and clearer info you can get yourself from the minimap. Obviously a person cannot tell the exact ship angle by eye with minimap, but with experience you can get very close. It can be quite useful for ammo selection but I don't find myself relying on it all that much in game. I find the minimap better.

Quote from the man himself on the NA forum. This was from last Thursday. "All mods in the modpack are allowed. I confirmed it last year, but yesterday I asked the WG staff again, just to be sure, since we had this mods rules update recently. They confirmed that my modpack is fine."

It's in the WoWs multipack. Surely they wouldn't include anything they would ban.

You got banned for a vapor trail mod? Someone was looking for an excuse.

I use a few Python-based mods like the ARP Yamato one. No-one complains. At least not yet they haven't

And now that you've bought up the AC mod, now I want it to happen.

You should challenge the ticket saying that this is the mod you use. Never know until you try
