this is just a crazy dream that ship lovers like to have

if you are very rich.you like navy ships you like to buy an expensive boat

so you choose a decommissioned old aircraft carrier

How do you exactly buy one?

do we need permissions from the leaders of your country or you could just buy it right away?

what do we need to keep a private aircraft carrier at our homes?

do we need to build a docking port or we can just dock it in the government ports?

how much does it cost?

where do we buy flawless carriers?  I heard Russian carriers are faulty and shit Like what the Indian Navy experienced."not sure if it's real tho

Unfortunately, the US isn't putting their soon-to-be decomissioned Nimitz class aircraft carriers up for sale. So that's a no-go on any plans for world domination.

why dont make one instead of buying the old wanna sunk ship?

i have more ideas :

- create a huge ship with 1000m long and 100m wide

- turn the deck into catapult and landing for aircraft

- buy some nuclear, for powering the ship up to 25knot

- reinforce the armor of belt and deck by 10 and 7 meter with titanium

- put a lot of "LEL" in the deck for defence and destroy those pesky destroyer and submarine

- put 8x2 152mm in the side for secondary, for repel those somalian pirate

- buy 200 airplane, 100 from Murica, 100 from Russa

- dont forget to make swiming pool

now you have strongest aircraft carrier...... use it for ramming instead :v

Actually , the idea was not new and a chinese billionaire did just that.

He buyed china first cv ever as scrap metal from russia and fitted it out till china government step in and make it happen.

A few eccentric billionaires are interested in them , but ultimately unable to as they can only buy them for scrap metal as his government doesnt back them up.

You can modify within a year and possibly 6 monthes any super tanker into an auxiliary cv. Problem is training pilot daring enough to land on them , this take 5 years atleast.

Yes ,you could buy one if you enough money (and relation)

It more easier to buy outdate carrier from soviet era rather than CVN from US, just like how Chinese did with Liaoning

Another option is when buy a outdate one from your country navy and turn it into museum ship (It always welcome)

Or just build one if you like :Smile_coin:

Xu Zengping is tasked by the goverment. and he warned that the future policy might not in favor of him purchasing the ship

He was ex-PLA and very patriotic and want to see his nation Navy improving (according to PLA Naval Engineer, it help leaping china carrier development by 15 years)

The goverment help him set up shell company, and gambling permit as "casino ship" cover story

He dont recive any even a single cent of re-imbursment by goverment, he filled in bankroupcy as he drown in debt (but managed to recover latter on).

Chinese goverment pull his gambling permit after the Carrier arrive in China, you can say the goverment seized the carrier. but he was intend to give it to them anyway

its practicly full of spy stuff

I belive any nation would seize your carrier, even if you managed to buy it

unless you renounce your nationality. and live on open seas like pirate lol

Sharkbait's, you need to study naval architecture. You cannot keep a rigid metal construction afloat that is 1km long. The waves will tear it Dow to 3 or 4 parts. That's why GK is impractical irl.

And lucky for us, or he would have built it.

well, the armor of the ship is almost 7m~10m, why i cannt make the keel of the ship more thicker and stronger. the problem is not the durability, but is that ship can float? because too heavy ship will sunk by their own weight...

lol the ship cost will be 20x CVN Ford..... you will need a lot of titanium for 10m armor thick and 1000m long ship :V

Problem was never the material , it is the grade of corrosion and wavelegth of sea waves that affect sea keeping quality.

If you have a ship at 1km long , you will have serious problem with just turning the ship with tidal and underwater current that will badly flood the deck and smash underwater hull.

Also , longer ships are faster , but stopping something with that kind of mass is just unrealistic,

Logistic problem is also another problem , where in Europe has a dry dock that large so it can come back and get repair ? Not to mention huge materials needed to replace each time it return from a mission

An Essex class carrier is 70 million USD (1942) which is approximately 1 billion US (source: google) , but if your cheap, In 1920, 1 JPY was worth approx 50 cents and unyruu class carrier is worth 93,442,000 yen which is 1,701,451.22 USD from that time, in modern day USD it's 20,802,282.91 USD

7-10mm wont hold your boat together, even if you use titanium, maybe buckypaper?

Rather than buy, you should be asking, how to build a real aircraft carrier.
And armour wise, ships these days are only protected in vital places. The hull is only 25mm thick (Go observe the DDG Fitzgerald)

Hull should cost around 300m for a 248mm by 20m carrier, after that add in weapons systems, integration, air wing, crew and supplies/ ammo. You will also need exorbitant amount of fuel and alot of friendly ports else the carrier is moot

7meter~10meter armor thickness... not milimeter... with titanium, it even more stronger.

it will never go to an island port! this ship is going repaired at the specific human made island.... about logistic, another ship will bring the supply instead. also nuclear powered.

here is the real problem, how to stop this massive thing from ramming..... well, its designated to yolo CV anyway....

about turning and flooding i dont think this is going to be problem. this ship is huge, 10meter wave wont stop this ship from turning

Lol, Jahre viking is only 458m long

she have hull height of 29m, and drought (part of the ship that underwater) of 24m, Her turning radius is 3km

1km carrier would need what ? arround 70 meter hull height I quess, with drought at minimum 50m. with 6km turning radius ?

you need to park it 2-3km away from any deep water harbour or any shore lol

also what the point of 1km runway if still using catapult lol

either way, 1km runway is actualy very Short

Fully loaded F-16 need 1,2km runway for takeoff (WITH AFTERBURNER), and F-15 need 1.5km at least

bombers need minimum of 3km runway

What would I do with it? When I get sick of sailing it, I mean yeah there's enough room, but still... Its a lot of cleaning to do... I wouldn't be able to vacuum clean all of the rooms... & what about fuel?
