So I have recently entered the world of models

I have purchased an air-fix model which I have yet to open but the thing looks amazing and some of the works I have seen on you-tube are incredible. So my question is what is the most reliable/quality producer of these models? the ones in the title seem to be the most prominent but there are a couple such as pontus that seem to be quite amazing so which manufacturer consistently ends up with good results in your opinion? ATM I am looking at the U-boats and some WW2 era fighters so for these categories, what provides a wide range of products? (separate question)

In terms of some surprising models, the German company Navis made some stuff I didnt expect some model makers to dare cast such as the Lexington battlecruiser had she not been reformatted or Tillmans

Clearly I don't visit this area often...

First of all, good on you for model building. It's a great hobby.

Did you buy an Airfix ship kit? They are all old toolings now.

The best brands depend on what subject you are building. In terms of ships, you can't go wrong with Tamiya's (small) range, & Trumpeter's large range. Pretty much all ships can be upgraded with photo etch & brass upgrades (ie Pontos).

Aircraft I would say Tamiya is one of the best. Airfix has improved dramatically over the last decade too. Hasegawa, Revell, Trumpeter, Italeri, Hobby Boss etc all all good brands. Generally any errors in these kits can be rectified with aftermarket replacements.
