Counter it using RADAR, SONAR and TORPS:)

And blind firing into smoke.

Though, I wouldn't shed a tear if smoke camping was removed or nerfed in some way.

Also, smoke campers have mostly smaller range (unless it's a Kutuzov), move away and make them find another better target.

Hiding in smoke is actually a big part of the game. The sooner you get used to it is better.

What is the point of having ships that don't have smoke then? May as well sell those XD

Honestly I look at things like this and wonder are the devs trying to make people quit? Why force people into such a predictable yet "must have" style of gameplay?

Smoke playstyle can easily countered by Torp spam playstyle and radar tactics

Smoke isn't too hard to counter.  Fire spreads of torps into the smoke, it consistently gets good results.  You can also use radar and sonar if the situation permits.  If you have a spotter plane, put it up and fire dead centre between the two groups of gun flashes, this reliably will result in citadels.  It's amazingly easy to take huge chunks of health off ships camping in smoke this way.

Having said that, I do think there is a bit too much smoke in this game.  I personally think all smoke durations should be nerfed by 30%, combined with a gun bloom duration change of 10 secs for DD's, 20 secs for CA/CL's, and 35 secs for BB's. Also combined with a nerf to radar range down to 7-9km depending on tier and nation.  Put that together and you have way less camping in smoke, but you enable DD's to be more aggressive outside smoke.  This would make for significantly more fluid games.

OMG...take the smoke out...or even nerf the smoke.  What will happen...ships with weak arnour shorter range will no longer be used.  Games will be 10 BB's vs 10 BB's ...besides i love people camping in smoke ...i get excited when they do as i can get closer with my DD...it opens so many options for me to attack them.

You couldn't do a smoke nerf without other changes to go with it - but a smoke duration nerf would undoubtedly be good for the game.

strange...

regardless what you guy said...

I torp into smoke far more time than I can count, it 'rarely' bare any good result...

let say... I torp smoke 10 times only 1 that hit something...

it's sooo fruitless that I rather keep my torp for something else

It probably won't work against DD for most of the time unless the said DD sitting broadside unmoving inside it.

However, it probably will, quite often force bigger ships out of smoke, if you only fire one or two launchers into it. The fear of getting hit by the other set will often force them out maneuvering panickedly.

Played 2 games last night got two sinkings torping into smoke.  Besides it is not just hits you want, you can get them to panic out of the smoke as well.

Indeed both results have tactical worth. Even if you have say a gunboat smoke camper have to turn inside the smoke you still gain some benefits compared to not doing anything at all.

I occasionally hit DD's inside the smoke but DD's tend to know when to vacate safely before the torps arrive. Some BB's on the other hand are silly and can't be helped even if the torps are spotted well away.

Nerf smoke duration by 30%? Do you know German DDs exist in game? Might as well remove smoke from them and make them even more pointless.

I love KM DD's.  They actually lose the least out of that change, because it's a percentage, and they have the shortest duration smoke.  Not only that, but KM DD's are the best anti-smoke DD's in game with their hydro, short c/d torps and high DPM guns.  They would be much better off after those changes, and so would the game overall.

Well, probably players don't want to die early so they dependent on smoke for survival.

To counter them:

1. if they're behind the smoke, catapult fighter or spotter plane can spot them (if only they fired or in air detection range) or have allied CV to spot them

2. a. if they're inside the smoke, ask for nearby radar-equipped ships. Preferably RU cruisers for longer search range or US & UK cruisers for longer active time. Here's the list of radar equipped ship: http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Consumables#Surveillance_Radar

2. b. ask for nearby hydroacoustic search-equipped ships. Better if they are Germans: http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Consumables#Hydroacoustic_Search

3. Drop some torps (don't drop on same spot, scatter it) for luck! But usually, I face my bow towards the enemy or just stay in the tail end of the smoke.
