What's Arizona's advantage/feature compared with New Mexico

Arizona is a member of Pennsylvania-class battleships. She has worse main battery than New Mexico (356/45 vs 356/50) so her penetrating ability and maximum damage of AP shell is worse. But Arizona has superb 2.0 sigma, which make her comfortable when hunting cruisers. She has large health pool as well.

No, her sigma has been nerf to 1.8 right after 0.5.8 went live.

What is "sigma" and "alpha strike"?

Sigma = horizontal dispersion

alpha strike = damage per shell(?) CMIIW

Technically yes, but the ship during 0.5.7 was in testing phase so it wasn't officially counted as released ship.

Never said never , but thing is that happened once in WoT and it backfires a lot so WG dont dare to do it again to their paid customers ( P2W anyone ?)

Also it touches the laws of a few nations regarding the issue so they ditched the option.

This means that sooner or later , powercreep will become a thing ( looks at the current trend of buffing stuffs , it helps the UP ships , but it is also raising the standard bar for all ships )

Alpha strike usually refers to damage per shell or volley.

Sigma is how accurate your guns are, or rather how often your shots hit where you are aiming.

iChase recently put up a video where he explained what Sigma is

Spoiler

Sigma is not really horizontal dispersion though, it is a common misconception. Refer to the iChase video.

It wasn't a public nerf.  The ship was rebalanced after supertesting feedback, PRIOR to being released.

Arizona was never nerfed. The problem was that people went of old data mined info, which was out of date when she was sold. IE info from before she was tested.

As an fyi, both are superb ships.

I've played about the same amount of games in both ships, and the Arizona has the highest average damage and the higher hit ratio.

Don't get me wrong, the New Mexico is a good solid ship and she is fun to play, but Arizona has that X factor that makes her more enjoyable. Tossed up for ages whether or not to buy her. So glad I did! It's a worthwhile investment.

Regarding penetration, the NM does not have that much more penetration than the NY/AZ in game. This comes from the fact that WG inexplicably lowered the krupp value of the NM's shell, despite using the same one as the aforementioned others. https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/65360-torpedo-detection-ranges-and-shell-velocitykrupp-as-of-052/

Quote

Name                       |   Speed    | Diamm  | Damage | Mass   |  Krupp  |   Nation   | Ships

356 mm AP Mk16                        | 792.00kts | 356mm |    10300 |      680 |     2604 | U.S.A.     | New York
356 mm AP Mk16                        | 823.00kts | 356mm |    10500 |      680 |     2545 | U.S.A.     | New Mexico

In fact, NM began losing out on penetration compared to NY/AZ at 12 km or farther due to lowered krupp and increased air drag. Combined with worse sigma so it's safe to say that NM is quite worse than AZ on gunnery department. I even asked for some buff to NM on the Sub_Octavian's previous Q/A session, but my questions went unanswered.
