Would like to see some of these in the game.

How would you balance these in the game? Not that any balance is perfect, but how would you try to balance it?

That'll give my fighter squadrons something to strafe after butchering every opposing aircraft and getting any enemy DDs killed.

It's probably not fun playing them/playing against them. They are pretty fast and small enough to avoid most hits, but their torps are limited in angle and often don't carry a gun big enough to be anti-surface in wows. And secondary build ships can crush them.

IIRC, this game is called World of Warships, not Warboats or anything....

But war thunder calls it "naval battles", it should be coast guard battles :P

Back to the OP, PT boats were probably considered. WG might not want them although I would like separate PT boat game mode, at least for april fools.

They had wooden hulls, exactly how much would you like these boats to blow up?

Good for over pens I guess......

Most of these boats had small calibre main armament.

They would not even last against tier 1 gunboats.

They'd be largely useless at the PT boat level, one shell and they'd be dead. A corvette or frigate might be another story in terms of survivability, but they didn't have many or very big guns. Take the River class frigate, one of the larger ships that wouldn't qualify as a DD. It has two 100mm guns and depth charges but no torpedoes. It wouldn't be very fun to play and couldn't contribute to a battle of surface ships.

The truth is anything smaller than a DD was either equipped solely for the purpose of escorting convoys (and hence sinking subs) or were like PT boats, which carried two fish and guns that were no threat to a warship.

Original statement from the Developer's back in Alpha when this was first asked for was "nothing smaller than a destroyer".

Well we also heard that WG would never release premiums over T8.......
