When is the balance of CVs going to change? I believe IJN CVs have more advantages than USN CVs at least in 0.6.4

Hello. Working on CVs is a challenging task. On the one hand, many things seem to be needing complete rework. On the other hand, the community tend to hate any global changes, and rough changes are not desirable. Balancing CVs are a part of the bigger task - of making CV class better and more friendly to players as a whole. I cannot tell you any ETA, but surely I can tell we are working on it and plan to improve CV experience.

Hi, Sub! Glad to have you on board! I got a couple CV-related questions for you.


1. How has the fighter ammo buff from patch 0.6.0 affected the performance and success rates of fighters against targets of all kinds (clicking, strafing, spotting, etc) and air superiority loadouts? It has been 4 patches already, surely there should be data available on whether the buff has achieved its intended purpose ("buffing USN CVs, especially the less skillful part of playerbase"). If possible, can you disclose how each server (ASIA, EU, NA, RU) is affected by this buff?


2. How has the "exit strafe" addition affected the game? Personally, the Saipan has become extremely (read: overly) powerful in contesting the air, perhaps a nerf of some sort should be introduced? Maybe consuming more ammo per exit strafe (say, 1.5x-2x the normal strafe ammo cost) JUST for the Saipan so it cannot just spam strafes left and right? I know that for other CVs, you can also pull off some really excellent strafes, but at a higher cost.

1. It affected the balance in a positive way, but we don't consider impact to be too big. Seems like a comfortability buff, mostly.

2. It added a new trick to master, and we currently don't see any problems with Saipan. No changes are planned.

Q : Did WG consider on lowering the bloom time for DDs? Currently its like 20secs iirc. This is same with the BBs and CAs. Sometimes after engaging DD in a knife fight. Due to good range of guns means it will get detected at max range. And in 20secs. Chance of detonating or getting devastate is 50-50. So i was wondering when removing the invisifire. Did the dev came across this matter?

Hi. Yes we did, as this was quite popular suggestion. Eventually, we are not going to reduce the bloom time - the timer is here for a reason. It prevents ships from constantly "blinking" in and out, which may be quite frustrating. However, we may increase this timer for battleships - still thinking it over. Cheers!

Anyways, Wargaming mentioned they were having Player retention issues a while back for Warships, and these days you hear a lot of complaining about various issues from people, from matchmaking, to balancing and certain ship lines or general game enjoyment.

Is War gaming actively working on looking into this issue?

Of course. We're working on "Player retention" both by researching and solving (if it is acknowledged) problems that are bothering players and creating new content/features to play with. We're also trying to improve our services to create good experience wherever we can.

Glad to have dev's attention in here. I have several questions:


  • Will Akizuki be given Defensive Fire AA in the near future? Since on paper, she was designed as an AA Destroyer escort, and rightfully deserves it.
  • Will IJN DD ever get back its old HE alpha? This is because dev buffed the RU HE on DD from 1600 back to its 1900 original alpha.
  • Will there be any future similar events (currently, the clash of elements), but with another premium ship as the ultimate reward? Do you like the event on its current state?

1. No. Her design is reflected in her base AA damage - it is very high, and if built properly, she shows outstanding AA efficiency for a TVIII DD. Adding Defencive Fire would force us to cut her base AA damage, as it would simply be too much and imbalanced. Aside from that, she is a very strong ship even after latest changes, which we like, but don't want to make her more powerful.

2. No. This change is not needed from balancing point of view.

3. There will be more events in 2017, but the details are not to be disclosed. IMO, the event is more or less fine, problem is, everyone wants free premiums ships and ignores smaller rewards, which are very useful. I'd reserve the verdict for now - the event is not over, and to make solid conclusions, we will be doing big analysis on feedback and stats.

I've got a question regarding something a bit obscure (probably even for you). It's mostly to satisfy my curiousity about the game mechanics (I hate not knowing how stuff works).

I am not going to comment on any external sources and data mining :) However, I will gladly comment on what you see in the game.


Torpedo damage shown in port is base damage. To achieve it you need to hit any part of the ship, but there are several factors that prevent you from seeing this exact numbers in combat:

  • There is "damage saturation" - so, if the part hit is already damage, it simply may lack hit points to "execute" full torpedo damage. Hence the cases when you catch the full torpedo volley with aft / bow only and still survive.
  • There is anti-torpedo protection on many ships providing some damage reduction, in case the torpedo hits the protected part of the ship.
  • There is torpedo splash damage. Unlike HE shells, torpedo splash does some damage if it affects neighboring part.

This would definitely improve the gameplay of lower tier ships (because being the only tier 8 in a tier 10 game is very sad)


Could we see this in future WoWS MM?

We are interested in their experiment, but the potential use for World of Warships is yet to be seen. So for now, we are watching them closely and wish them all the best:)

Im just wondering why german destroyers are easily penetrated by battleship guns 38 cm and up+ even if my sides are exposed, one shell managed to land for 7k dmg or feels like they eat more damage than usual

Hello. German DDs tend to have more bulky structure, so, they sometimes get less over-penetrations and more normal penetrations. We are fully aware of this and designed the line with this weakness in mind.

Overall, after all changes and tweaks, we consider them to be viable, competitive, and performing greatly.

Hi. First, I am not sure these were present on turrets. And even if they were at some point, Yamato is definetely not the ship that needs buffing.

this is about KM DDs, they are suffer by BBs AP too much, unlike others DDs. Any change for KM DDs?

Right, as I answered above, they tend to have slightly more impact from AP shells. That was accounted for when we designed the line, and right now, in their current state, KM DDs look very good. No buffs or nerfs seem to be needed.

I got question regarding Anti Aircraft special effect, are there any Plan for it to be "enhanched" to be more visually appealing (especialy with future planned changes into Carrier play)

Even with Maximum Graphic setting, the visual were only borderline (*ehem) passable.

It looks good only when DFAA were active


which quite the shame since, not all ships have DFAA. even Battleship with hunderds AA gun dont look desperate enough avoiding Bombers Attack - it look like half assed effort to shoot aircraft down


I read, it because WoW focused on Ships to Ships battle.

But Aircraft has been Integral part of Naval war, especialy in Last stages of the war.

and Personaly, that kind of thinking is the one that makes CV gameplay - and implementation of Aircraft were particularly underdeveloped


the Whole AAA system which bassed on Aura

is quite ridiculus too in my oppinion, since it bassed a lot on RNG

will we expect, improvement in future ? like Dual Purpose gun able to fire at aircraft - even if its just visual cosmetic 

1. We're working on major visual improvements right now, however, AA effects are not something that seems like top priority. We'll see what can be done, but now it looks like "Explosions & main caliber shooting -> Water FX -> the rest".

2. We don't think AA mechanics is perfect, and maybe we will address it along with CV improvements at some point.

3. Dual purpose guns are already firing at aircraft (in terms of dealing damage). For example, take Montana:


Visually, all guns but dual purpose track their targets if you enable this option:


Dual purpose guns do not track planes visually because that would conflict with their ship-to-ship shooting animation.

My question is how many of your developers actively play the game and on average, the time that those developers play the game?

I ask because I have seen your answers on how you believe the game balance is somewhat balanced yet since OBT, there has not been many good balance changes in my opinion and seemingly, many other players who have recently starting expressing their concerns on balance.

All developers who participate in game design play the game actively.

Most developers who participate in tech and near-game design, play the game too. I am sorry you are not satisfied with our balance decisions, but, you know, linking it to personal stats is a bit irrelevant. Also, there are thousands of players who are happy with what we do.


Here are some examples though, if you are interested. Game designers and analysts mostly:

Hey Sub_Octavian, i would like to ask about the logic behind the RuDD HE buff to improve their damage done to other nations DDs (when they damage done to other classes was perfectly fine) and then later on you nerf the rudder shift of the Khab because it was far too strong against DDs at close range?

Why not just roll back the HE buff? 


The Khab is considered one of the more broken ships in game, and to nerf if you didn't touch any of its real strengths......

Hey. Most of the line uses these shells, so making exception for Khaba would not be very nice - while buffing other RU DDs was necessary. And, what's most important, Khaba OP-ness is connected mainly with her high protection by dodging shells. Thus, we are nerfing her real strengths, and needed drop is already seen on server stats. Will it be enough? We don't know yet.

Will you consider implementing separate Random Battles; Solo Queue a.k.a Random Battles without divisions and Div Queue a.k.a. Random Battles with divisions only?


1) Newcomers will not face sealclubbing divisions so they will find their gameplay more comfortable.

2) Players in division will likely find their gameplay more exciting, strategic and tactical because these players tend to be more cooperative and coordinated. So, essentially a Team Battle but a 12v12 variant of it.

No. The audience should be much, much larger for this to work properly, without long queues in Match Maker.

First I would like to welcome your presence on the Asia Server.
As an avid German Cruiser player, I've been monitoring the performance of these ships, which the WG devs has recognized that they're "experiencing problems" .The 0.6.4 patch saw a welcoming changes to the bow and stern armour of the Cruisers Hipper, Eugen, Roon and Hindenburg, which strengthened their protection against 380/381 mm AP shells and non-IFHE 155 HEs. However, as players have lamented in forum posts[1] and polls [2] , most of the players found that the protection least of these ships' concern and that the buffs has limited improvement. A good number of them has voted to have buffs regarding the performance of their shells, or alternatively, the utility of the ships. Hence my question(s):
1. Are there plans from the devs to enhance other perimeters, say the penetration of the AP shells and the bounce angle/normalization, or the general utility of the German cruisers, considering that the line heavily relies on AP? 2. Or at the very least, are there plans to further adjust the parameter of German cruisers, particularly but not limiting to high tier ones?
Third question, if you would indulge me: 
This being a boat game, I found it very underwhelming that we can only view the ships from a distance and from a inward perspective, which create the impression that the ships are rather small. Although it's possible the to mod the game client such that the camera can be moved on board the ship and solve (part of ) the problem, it would be logical of WoWs to include camera angle so the player can immerse better in the huge size of the ships, and ultimately, the naval setting. Which led me to the third question:
3. if it's possible of the devs to add more camera angles and allow the player to zoom close, such that a player could virtually "stand", "walk" in the port interface

1.Right now, we are considering different improvements for German cruisers starting from Nurnberg. I cannot hint what will it be and to what degree, but we are on it, so chances for further improvements are pretty high. Thank you for providing additional information.

3. We were thinking about additional cameras for more immersion, and even did some prototypes, but right now, other UI improvements seem to have higher priority. So..not now, sorry.

Hello Sub_Octavian. Do the developers have plans for a future patch to implement some method of teaching new and unexperienced players how to play aircraft carriers? Currently, the lack of information provided by the game is acting as a barrier against players wishing to progress through the aircraft carrier lines.


Currently, the game does not adequately teach the player how to play CVs in any way, be it an interactive playable tutorial or even readable text. New players have no idea how to use fighter strafing or manual drops, and they might even not know that these features even exist. As a result, we end up with two outcomes:


  1. Players continue to be completely oblivious to the game mechanics of CVs, and become immensely frustrated at the game. Then, they either complain that the game needs rebalancing, or they simply stop playing CVs altogether in a quit of rage.
  2. A smaller proportion of players go to the WoWS forums, or view videos on Youtube, and read/watch third-party tutorials created by the community that teach them the game mechanics of playing aircraft carriers.


Why is it that in order for players to learn how to play aircraft carriers, they need to go out of their way to search for this information online? Why is this learning process not part of the game itself? Ultimately, this is hurting CV player retention, and it is also causing questionable balance changes, such as the removal of manual attacks from tier 4 and 5 CVs. This causes even more problems, as now new players are unable to learn how to use fighter strafing and manual drops in lower tiers, and are suddenly overwhelmed with difficulty once they reach tier 6 where CV gameplay is significantly more difficult as it requires more micro work from the player to deal with more squadrons and stronger ship AA. This makes it seem that the removal of alt-attacks from tiers 4 and 5 is nothing more than a band-aid solution that does not fix the problem at the core.


As for the issue of lower tier surface ships being sealclubbed by proficient CV players, the same issue applies. Why doesn't the game teach players how to overlap AA, to not separate themselves from the team, and to click on aircraft for an AA DPM bonus? Why are so many aspects of the game missing from any kind of tutorial aimed at teaching beginners?



One last unrelated thing: Any future plans for server roaming? For example, ASIA players playing on NA server? I recall that back in 2013, server roaming for World of Tanks was being tested by RU supertesters, however the feature was ultimately cancelled. I am certain that many WoWS players would be interested in such a feature, even if it was a paid feature that you spent real money for.



We're working on adaptive tutorial through personal offers system. The first stage covers the basics, and hopefully, is about to launch. Then, we plan to expand it, including CV tutorial.

No new info on sever roaming, sorry.

I would like to ask questions about clan-related stuff and community event related stuff

1.The clan system has been implemented in game for a while,however there wasnt ANY single event related to clans.

It feels like WG doesn't take clan features as a priority stuff.

As a player who is very concerned and interested about clan features,may I ask

-When will more clan related features being newly implemented in game?

-Also,any plans on clan wars?

2.The recent event---clash of elements was another community event after the Kamikaze R project

But,to my knowledge,players were dissatisfied with this event(Especially chinese circles)

Mainly because of the too high requirement to get Kamikaze and the recent incident*

(Players in China spotted the data of Water Team was still increasing,even the server is under maintenance)

This resulted in players reluctant in participating in the clash of elements event.

(Check the stat of 1st round and 2nd round.It can be seen that in 1st round the fire team have a superioity in terms of all,however the number greatly decreased in R2)

So,my questions is

-How do WG set up their standards(Goals to be accomplished) in this kind of community events?

-How do WG see their events in the server? How would WG see an event to be success?

3.Would WG support the community projects related to Clan stuff,that was initiated by players?

1. We take it as a priority stuff, quite high. However, current development is quite challenging, so lots of important work is done internally. I really hope players will see the results as well, and they won't have to wait long.

2. The information on portal may update with lag. There was no desire, intention, or even need to mess with event results - there is built-in feature of closing entry access to the team with too big advantage, and it does its job. The requirements are truly high, but there are other prizes to get, and we're not planning to give away thousands of premium ships each event. Events should be different. We will analyze CoE when it's over and see what should be done in future.

3. That depends - the question is too vague, and I cannot answer it. I think if you have any ideas, you should share them with Community Managers.

1. It's been like 5 month since German DD line released, I don't see much player playing this line on certain tier as you only encounter them 1 out of 10 matches (??). In other words, German DD line is least played among the 4 nations. Is there something Analyst Team would suggest to encourage players to play them?

2. Is CV rework still due to release this year? (As according to Dev Diary 2017 roadmap)

3. CV Saipan: Any possible move for change (excluding the cosmetic part) on this ship?

4. Related to above. If there will be such change to any of premium ship (e.g. performance, armor, etc.), is the management willing to follow the "WoT move" for full refund the premium? (Players opted for full refund of their SuperPershing)


5. We have seen a lot of contents coming in for the game but I want to know the technical aspect of the game: Fair Gameplay Security. You guess it.... Cheat mods. How can the development team assure the gaming community on having fair play? On random battles, team battle, or future clan war & competition-based game mode. Any plan to expand radio commands?

I already suggested for the F3 (Designate target) radio command when pointing at objects that are dangerous to their teammate.

To alleviate the language barrier challenge when reporting danger to the team.

1. I think your personal impression is a bit off with server statistics. Of course you cannot expect German DDs to have the same count as older lines like IJN or USN, especially on high tiers. However, they have considerable player base, which is moving up tier gradually. From the gameplay point of view, they are fine in their current state.

2. Hopefully, but that may be not a big rework at once, but rather several updates with changes.

3. No.

4. We are very loyal in this aspect - we buff premium ships when they have problems with performance, and avoid nerfing them at all costs. I don't see any point in discussing this now, as there is no precedent of specific ship nerf.

5. We have dedicated people who work with banned modifications to ensure client security. They have been quite successful in fixing many major threats over last years. If you have any information that you think can help, feel free to submit it to Support. But the main "anti-cheat" protection is that all core mechanics are calculated on server and cannot be "hacked". You cannot "cheat" damage, dispersion, ship visibility or hit point. The only thing that "cheater" can hope for is some "assist" (which any good player will be better at probably)...and eventual account ban for using illegal mods. It simply does not worth the risk.

P.S. Radio commands will be expanded this year, hopefully, in the near future:)

Here is the question that I would like to know.

1) How is the progress of the soviet cold war themed destroyers (Smelyi, Neustrashimyy and Project56)?


2) Do we have the chance to see official wiki of WoWS other than English or Russian? it is hard to share the knowledge and its gimmick to the others when we discuss.

    (currently, we are not even able to access to its top page by our own language)

1. It is...going...slowly. No comment on that.

2. I am absolutely sure that lack of languages is simply due to tremendous amount of information to be translated. It's tough, but I'd not expect any quick localization.

3. First impressions - so far, so good. Henri IV AA and Emile speed will be tweaked soon. As for fine-tuning, well, it can be done mostly when we have massiva statistics, and this is a question of months, not days or weeks. In other words, we need to wait until lost of players play these ships and generate decent amount of battles. If we see any issues earlier, well, we will react earlier.

4. We plan to do exactly what we did before with such mods. I mean, what else can we do with those who don't want to play fair? The policy remains. Those who ignore it, will have their accounts banned, even if not immediately, we will get to it. There is no point in risking your account for very questionable profit.



Gameplay wise, the problem for IJNDD is not about the weak torpedoes.

The recent torpedo buffs is not helping anything.

Do developers even considered removing IJNDD lines?

The problem is with lack of consistency. The lack of consistency is caused by not reliable torpedo hits and not comfortable guns. We're buffing both torps and guns to make it better. Shimakaze is already showing better results, including median, in 0.6.4 compared to 0.6.3. And this is good. Sorry, but I cannot agree with your claim, seeing the data.

No, we never considered removing IJN DD lines, and won't consider it.

Q1  When will Citadel of Iowa and Montana change?


Q2  Is there a possibility that USS Battleship will be equipped with 'Defensive AA fire'?


Q3  Montana's  secondary gun range is shorter than other Tier10 battleships.

  What is the reason why the range of excellent guns with ranges over 20 km has been shortened?



1. 0.6.6+, which means that we aim for 0.6.6, but I cannot 100% guarantee it.

2. Such possibility is almost none, and gameplay-wise, I don't see any reasons for it to change.

3. Because we did not plan USN BBs to be strong in secondaries. There are KM and IJN for that, gameplay-wise.

1. Based on your recent Q&A where you talked about the Yuugumo being underpowered and need to be looked into, what does the dev team plan to do with her to keep her competitive with the other tier 9 destroyers in the game?

2. Will there be another premium camouflage for the IJN ships? The current one doesn't look as nice compared to the other nations. Actually, they look pretty disgusting.

3. Will there be changes to the tier 9 premium camouflage? As it is right now, there is no point getting them, and playing tier 9 at all when the tier 10 camouflage is a lot better than the tier 9s. 



1. No promises, but we're thinking about giving her newly-buffed Type 93. mod.3 torps as an option.

2. We don't plan to double premium camo except for some special cases. Sorry, but we don't consider IJN premium camo to be "disgusting", and neither the majority of players.

3. No. It provides nice bonus both if you plan to have a particular T9 ship in your collection and if you plan to grind through it.

Sorry for your disappointment, man. I can say we know that feeling, because there are so many "joke modes" ideas, but we mostly just don't have resources and time for them - need to work on core game.

No "joke modes" are planned for the near future :(

On the other hand, lots of content for core game is coming - which is surely good.

Yep. No plans, because such feature is quite costly, and there is almost zero demand for it.

after 0.6.4 released, Kamikaze - ® - Fujin and other DDs in main line get buff. but why Shinonome get none? (This ship is the most useless T6 DD)

Because it is the best pefrormer among T6 DDs, and does not need any buffs. Of course we take into account the fact that she is obtainable through campaign with some requirements. And still, she rocks. Why buff her?

​Recently I manage to get some kind of bugs that bother my gaming experiences in game. So I want to see response from WG team that do you guys have any plan to investigate and fix it? because I cannot make a good experience from these bugs and I have to stop playing certain class for that.
​- Gunnery bug: I cannot fire a guns even turret set in right direction and fully reloaded
​I'll post Flamu's video to show what I express.
- CV dropping area bug: I cannot make an attack formation and commited a strike or strafe in area below ribbons to minimap (you can see a massage box block my action there)

Has anyone in the Dev branch checked the winrate values matched to battles with imbalanced DD numbers per team? My experience is that anywhere from 50-90% of battles where one team has no DDs compared to the enemy team results in a loss for the team without the DD.

Are there any plans to balance the numbers of DDs per team in the same manner as CVs are balanced?

Hello. Yes, we did quite deep analysis on this, because the idea about DD quantity imbalance was very popular. It was very interesting to learn that difference of winrate may slightly vary, depending on conditions, but overall, difference in DD number has no meaningful impact on win chance. So, we decided not to add more balancing rules for now.

Will there be anything done to high tier maps that are incredibly battleship friendly?


Such maps like Okinawa, Tears of the Desert (epicentre on this map is a punishment Stalin himself wouldn't give to his worst dissidents) and Mountain Range. Playing cruisers, especially USN ones that require you to be closer to your enemy than other cruisers is an absolute pain and a very unfun experience.


Other issues with these maps is the absolute lack of cover in cap points. All three of those map have almost no cover in the cap points for domination. Mountain range has a little bit of cover on the Eastern cap, but the two other caps are completely open. This applies to Okinawa as well where one cap has cover AROUND it but not in it, with B cap having an island in the middle that provides very little cover with C being completely open. While Tears of the Desert has zero cover in all caps except for that sliver of lands above and below the cap in the southern cap.


And what ships require the least cover to be useful? DING DING - BATTLESHIPS!!!


tl;dr: When are you guys going to fix Okinawa, Tears of the Desert and Mountain Range?

You know, part of players complains about too many islands and inability to maneuver, while part of players prefer more dense maps. We have different maps for this reason :)
As for capturing points, we try not to place islands inside them, as this leads to quite dull camping, or we try to place them with equal advantage to each team. 
Overall, we try to balance all maps for all classes, so CL/CAs, DDs and BBs have something to do, including cap contesting.

1. No, for now it seems we buffed her good enough. 
2. When there were only IJN and USN, they had best AA. But the game, and the meta, changes, so now their AA role is not that glorious. On the other hand, we buffed their AP, and recently buffed their RoF and concealment. We keep them updated.
3. Yes, but as conning tower is not a designated module, it has no gameplay impact.

My question is as follows: Does Wargaming plan to incorporate some form of matchmaking system for more balanced teams in random battles?  Right now tiers are balanced, but there are many mismatched DDs, and Radar Cruisers in MM, which is especially prevalent in high tiers.  Are there any plans to have more even distribution of DD-types, Radar ships, or player skills in matchmaking?

1. Consumables are not to be counted in MM. If any consumable would have THAT big impact, we'd rather nerf it than create MM rulses for it.
2. Player skills are not to be counted in Random MM. Players who want to be matched with more precision, may want to explore Ranked; while RB are not exact "skill MM", they are relatively close to it.

3. Right now, we don't want to add more MM rules, but we may change it in future. As for DD count, I explained it above. The impact is not as big as players often suggest. Even some maps have bigger impact themselves (and thus, we're tweaking them for better balance).

I want to have few questions about the game mechanism.

Is that we have a chance to know more about the unknown data about ships in game, such as the accelerate , angular speed or the penetration power of bullets ?

Some data may be added to the client. When something is not shown, the "secrecy" is not the reason. The reason is usually either:

"We think it is too specific information that will help almost noone, and port UI is not made for hardcore players only" - like dispersion sigma


"We think it is important, but we need to figure out the best way to show it, so it is queued for now" - like penetration.

1) Have you considered adding only partial BB lines (no more tier 9-10) in future to reduce BB overpopulation? I'm patiently waiting for the Tegetthoff-class BB, and I believe that the strict requirement for tier 3-10 BBs severely hinders the possibility of a Austro-Hungarian tech tree.


2) Aurora, Nikolai and Okhotnik have the same tricolour camouflage scheme. Is it possible to implement this camo for low tier Russian ships as well? It's disappointing that the likes of Derzki and Bogatyr don't have permanent camo (edit: don't worry I'm not a seal clubber, I mostly play co-op).

2. Perma camo for low-tier ship is possible, but not very high priority. And copying the tricolour scheme is not the best way here.

WG said that they would not release any new CV before the CV major rework.

Also, they claimed that the rework of CV interface is not even major rework so I consider there will be no new CV in short time.

Apparently, the Kaga is going to be released soon but CV is still not reworked.

So My Question is

1.Why would WG attempt to release a new CV before major rework?

2. When would the REAL MAJOR CV rework come?  It seems that balancing is not in the highest priority of WG's plan. Why would the dev team choose to keep adding new and fun but not-so-urgent contents instead of solving the more urgent issue like matchmaking and ship balance (For instance, IJN dd and CV)?

1. Because with current improvements, we think it's fair to say CV players may enjoy premium IJN CV, even while we're still working on bigger improvements.

2. I don't know if this is going to be REAL MAJOR overhaul or a series of updates. I don't know if it will be done fully this year. There is no point in asking this, really. We're working on CVs step by step - slowly, but this is how we can do it for now. 

3. There is no "instead". Adding Kaga does not prevent from calculating balance changes.
4. There are no urgent MM issues from our point of view. There are some "nice to improve" things.
5. There is no urgent issue with IJN DDs. We buffed them, especially Shima, and working on Yugumo buff. This is not different from updating other underperforming ships, like German cruisers.
Sorry for not agreeing with you on some points, but I think it's fair to have different opinions on game state.

Just a few questions i had in mind:

1. When will we get USN CL line or split USN CA-CL?

2. I think we need a new replay viewer, a good one da. Do you consider to develop one?

3. About IJN CA T8 Mogami. 155mm buff was great, she is now has more potential than before (bcs lol Atago/Takao totally replace her place as T8 IJN CA). Now I think she needs attention to her armor, uhh, 25mm all around.... Really? She's too fragile for a T8 CA. Either improve the armor, or give heal (a lesser one than Atago).

3. In 0.6.4, she looks very good and in place. According to the stats I have, the buff made her one of the strongest, and there is absolutely no need to buff anything else right now.

-About Hindenburg, do you feel that it need a buff in maneuverability or concealment? It have the worst maneuverability among all tier 10 cruiser and the concealment is second worst. If use upgrade maneuverability than concealment will be high like a BB and if use concealment upgrade will make it very hard to dodge shells.

-Does the chance of getting super container is equal between players ? I know a guy who get SP almost very month and last month he gets 3 SC in one week :facepalm: since the container feature was introduced, I open 2 containers almost everyday and I only get 3 SC till now , 3/~420 container -_- so unfair. Can anything be changed for that ?

1. Not sure they are weak, honestly. 

2. We don't "feel", but rather think that German cruisers from Nurnberg to Hindenburg may use some buffing. However, I cannot tell you what it will be and when.

3. Yep, the chance is equal and universal. Don't be upset - a guy from my team seems to get 1 SC in 3 weeks, and I got situation just like you. Bad luck. But we shall overcome :izmena: RNG is not "unfair" - it's RNG. It doesn't care.

Feedback noted, but as I said before, if a problem with specific ship or small group of ship is acknowledged, it shouldn't be solved with MM rules. This is absolutely not right thing to do.

1. Will you buff the duration for Catapult Fighter for Battleships (IJN, KMS for tiers VII-VIII only including Premium Battleships)?, i suspect the Tirpitz and Dunkerque has mediocre AA and i found shooting enemy aircraft is totally a mess.

2. I'm also excited at the new incoming PvE missions, will there will be an Enemy Carrier in the mode?

1. Not sure what you mean by "game engine" here. We're upgrading FX, sound engine, working on server optimization and utilizing DX11. 

2. It has some limitations. Sometimes we upgrade or rework the problematic part, sometimes we realize it's not worth it. Generally, it is not a big problem.

3. Yes, but you always can wish more.

4. No comment on unreleased content.

5.Right now - no. There is considerable amount of skill in shooting, and it is fine. Those who want more consistent hits, should play cruisers instead of BBs, because it's BB dispersion that causes such impression mainly. And it is here for a reason.

Another question from me (could also be a suggestion).


Apart from it being difficult for players to understand or possibly be confused by it, are there any other reasons WG can't display penetration and Angle of Fall (AoF) data in the game?

Instead of adding them into the port stats (which would require complicated display of stats for various ranges), what if it was implemented directly into the crosshairs?


E.g. at X km distance, the shell would have Y mm penetration and Z degrees Angle of Fall.


This would help players better judge whether or not their AP shells would penetrate belt or deck armor of their target for the given distance and angle of fall, as well as determine whether there is a high chance of ricochet.

Adding this info to port stats makes some sense for us. But to crosshairs - it's definitely no. We want players to play the game, not UI. It is way too hardcore.

I really appreciate for moving Japanese national flag from a stern to a mast, correct position. Now one of the big issues about IJN's ships has been resolved. Many Japanese players want you guys(developers) to keep going to fix every problems of IJN's ships.

I'd have some bits of my own:

- Now the Baltimore had a reload buff on her upgraded guns which helped in the cruiser's ability to shell targets more often but as it stands, she's the only ship at her tier that has a rather slow shell speed in contrast to her colleagues (the Neptune doesn't exactly count since the thing can mitigate its bit with the smoke and torpedoes). Since the cruiser's bustling AA suite can be challenged with the likes of Dmitri Donskoi or even an AA oriented Neptune without the right of Defensive Fire, would the Baltimore still be in line with her peers in regards to balance if her top guns fire slightly faster shells? Its kinda strange that the stock guns sling shells to targets faster than the upgraded ones despite the 5 second reload difference between both guns as well as the increased damage at the cost of the shell speed on the latter. This question also sort of applies to the Des Moines since both share the same Mark 21 shell and both have the same GFCS range. I believe that increasing the shell velocity can give these two something to match in long range gunnery duels against the likes of the Roon which has quite the fast shells


- Regarding the Ibuki, would it be a strange notion to give her upgraded barrels the same as Zao's as a new gun upgrade like what the battleship Friedrich der Grosse has with the 406 and the 420's which her successor Grosser Kurfurst also has even if it wasn't historical or slated? I'd like to know if the RUdevs actually did think of this "what-if" before and deemed it a good concept or not

1. We normally don't mess with ballistics. Yes, ballistics of these shells is rather bad - thus, you need either to rain HE, or get closer and punish the enemy with AP (that are quite strong). We're fine with it.

So there have some question about the special server.


1. I think ASIA server is the most negative server, our player always camp behind the mountain, and the warrior who go for capturing will sunk soon with no support (and get lower exp with credit).

    WG have improved the earning for the player who know teamwork, but i think it is not enough, could WG give more buff for the teamworker, and give nerf for the camper?

2. Continue to Question 1, most of the camper are BB, and WG said BB player are too many in all server(from previous Q&A in other server), did WG have any plan to nerf BB in future 5 big patch?

3. WG have nerf the earning of afk player in previous patch, but i think the punishment is not enough to stop afk. Did WG have any plan to punish recidivist afk player like team killer?

    Yes i mean the punishment of player banned. Its not happy to lose due to afk player, i think WG should give severe punishment on afk player like teamkiller.


And there have some question about balance of the game.


4. Medium tier US CV is obvious weaker than other CV(especially Ranger, it is almost lowest win rate ship of the game since open beta).

    I think the elite Ranger player can control it well, but the average is very poor(Ranger like a T6.5 ship), did WG have any buff of ranger?

    Ranger's concealment is weak(14.2 km, weaker than cruiser and IJN CV), AA cant stop IJN CV and Saipan to kill it first, maximum speed is too slow(29.5knot)

    If WG cant buff plane to break the balance, please buff survivability of poor medium tier US CV.

5. Same problem of medium tier IJN DD (especially Akatsuki), weaker concealment to higher(above T8) or lower(below T5) DD, lower HP(13100 lowest) so it is hard against other DD.

    Did WG have any plan to buff it?

I'm glad that Mogami's 155mm gun has made it easier to use with a previous update and it has become a realistic choice.
However, worried about one point about Mogami. It's about the place of the crest of the bow.
According to the attached image, the place unlike the real ship in the bow of Mogami in WoWS(It was not even attached before!)
I want the bow of Mogami to be like the real ship (like Ibuki in WoWS) since WoWS began.
Plan to fix such modeling in the future?

You are right, the model is wrong. Noted, and queued for fixing (not promising it will happy very soon, as queue of 3D stuff is quite busy, but anyways, it is in the plan now).

Sup, my question is in regards to the Clash of the Elements event.

I've noticed that the rewards are very lackluster and uninspiring outside of the Kamikaze which is probably out of reach for many.

Which is fine by me, in fact I would've prefered other rewards than a buffed up Minekaze, however that's not my question.


I've also noticed that the Clash of the Elements banner on the website has been removed in favour of the french cruiser banner.

Meanwhile there's no more hotlink to the event on the website either, instead one has to open the event website from either the news article

or the game's launcher.


Does this mean that Clash of the Elements was always supposed to be a small, inbetween event?


Accounting for some of the major events WoWS has had so far I'd certainly call it as such.


- The Arpeggio ship events had free Kongous, Myoukous and even Takao, plus the inbetween rewards.

- The Graf Spee event also had plenty of extra rewards going for it

- The Kamikaze Restoration event itself also gave the players heaps of rewards.


In comparisson to these and others the current event looks very small in terms of rewards.

Meanwhile it's also set to only run for three weeks, which is another indicator to me

that you guys never saw it as a major event.


Also, if that's the case, can we count on a large scale event to come out sooner rather than later?



No, I think it is the matter of our web team:) The event is global, and not small. Not as epic as Xmas set, but definitely bigger than usual local stuff.


There will be other events with different rewards, but that doesn't mean we will constantly give away mid-tier premiums ships to everyone. Sorry, not going to happen.

Hello. We stopped this for now. There is much work, much performance affected, and efficiency for the game is quite small. Right now our visual team is working on more important stuff - new visual effects. They are going to have much bigger positive impact.

I like the new setting that low tier carrier can't manual attack, it really improve game. But high tier carrier stil weak when ship have high AA like des moines or minotaur. can cv have any way to fight those ship? I mean not to attack them, but don't just see them and the plane already got destroy(like AA gun>86mm delay 1 sec before it really do damage, or alert when planes got to much damage per sec, or maybe just making those AA ship easy to be spot with planes.


the commander skill problem:

maybe skills about AA gun is too strong? like Manual Fire Control for AA Armament​. I think this skill gain too much AA, it should do less damage but make AA gun harder to get destroy.

Air Supremacy: this skill let the lower tier cv still could be destroy easily by elite player without any tech and every cv have no choices but pick this skill, It also makes retraining commander painful.


about USSR destroyer:

the only problem they have: when matchmaking only bring few dd in a team, the USSR dd just can't cap easily. Of course he can shoot and do damage, but it doesn't worth the area control.(maybe cv can deal with this problem, or WG can add something make USSR dd cap performance better).

It's great to see you here, I have a few questions for you so I understand if you're unable to answer all of them. 


  1. I feel that a lot of complaints about the game is because all of the servers expect ships to be designed about there own meta so how is the balancing calculated once she's in game? Is it based on one server or is all of the info thrown together into one large pool. 
  2. Also how is your balancing focus determined by? A lot of changes really seem to be done simply because this or that crowd yells the most in the forums and by CC's, which just means they yell more and more to get there own way. There also seems to be a focus on buffing stronger ships whilst other weaker lines aren't looked at.
  3. Community contributors releasing videos on ships going through testing. How is this good for the game or the testing process? As a marketing tool to build hype I can see some merit, however it feels that 90% of the reviews are negative towards either WG and its team (IE: WG what were you thinking doing this) or I can't get the ship to do 150k dmg, so clearly it's not a good ship. How is this good for the game as it constantly builds up negativity towards WG, and basing a review on it's earliest test version seems flawed. Wouldn't the simple approach be to simply delay the release by 3-4 days and give the CC's this time to do the videos on the finished product.
  4. Why does the German lines get to be the test bed for new innovations? Prinz Eugen for instance is simply a Hipper but you can buy an extra camo for her (apparently a sales flop), the German DD's seem to have been used to test stealth firing issues so were basically ignored by the community, the Tirpitz has only just been improved to a playable level again but it took 6 months for the change to occur as the Bismark and every other tier 8 BB were either better or have been buffed well past the Tirpitz for the average player to be of much fun.
  5. Why aren't there more nations premium ships? There seems always to be a Russian and US ship on the horizon. When do we start getting more Pan Asian, Commonwealth, even German and Japanese ships? (and no Anime ships don't count). 
  6. Will we be getting nations flags? I think WoT has it, so why not us.
  7. Why don't  ships start with ammo already loaded? Consumables are ready to go from the start.

1. We cannot release and support 4 different games, thus, we balance around all 4 servers.

2. Yelling is not relevant. Sometimes it helps to start looking for problems, sometimes (mostly) it does not do anything at all. Unfortunately we cannot please everyone, and those who complain, are naturally louder. We analyze feedback, stats, surveys (if there are relevant data from them) and use our own vision. 

3. Sorry, but I'd leave this for marketing and PR guys to decide. Feedback and suggestion noted. One thing, though - you cannot run from data mining if you do production test. So, what's better - to pretend the stuff is not here, or give some guys the ability to explore it (even WIP) and tell others? For me, the answer is not simple.

I'd want to ask you the process of the restriction who against the game rule

I just noticed someone play this game even he used "Cheats" program i think it was ESP or something just somedays ago.

This player upload his in-game profile Capture via twitter. but It included Cheats scene.  after this, He just deleted all of twitter picture and change his game profile into private and even his youtube account.


But as I said, I found He is playing this game as normal he was. Just change his name "Shirogane", into "Onlycitadel".


Is there action upon the offenders or not?

Yes, there are plans, and some actual work on these plans as well. ETA: this year, hopefully, in the near future.

my questions: 

1: will the Des Moines and Baltimore be buffed even more to match the level of their opponents? Right now Des Moines is so squishy and the detection range doesn't help it, also the fact that you need to close in since you have bad shell velocity just makes it worse... Armour buff maybe? Or better detection range? Is it ever gonna happen? (I know it recently got 30mm deck but that doesn't feel enough)

2: Will the game engine be optimised for newer systems soon? Since you guys cut XP and Vista support I am expecting better optimisation very soon so we can get better FPS and maybe even better graphics?

1. I'm afraid right now, with latest changes, they don't need much buffing. We will keep looking, though.

2. We're working on it. One nice graphical thing is new FX - we're re-doing explosions, fire and water effects.

If they are not, what solution is planned or when can we expect a solution?

1-2. It may use some tweaks, and we're working on it - both on balance changes and some new stuff. No leaks for now.

3. Yes and yes (I'm personally terrible CV player, but that's just me). I gave several dev profiles in the replies above).

4. The general incentive is to win, right? Some things are quite difficult to determine automatically.

1. Can we get a real-time aircraft destroyed beside the ships destroyed score tab?

2. Can the UI team put how many exactly the Fighter/Torpedo Bomber/Dive Bomber beside the "Hangar Capacity" tab in port? Not knowing them makes me wondering about my battle decision.


Ships balancing

1. Is any plan to remove Saipan's immunity in dogfighting? And I dont want hear the "Hangar size is small" as excuse because it packing a Tier9 planes as its weapon. Give us a really solid answer or remove Saipan's immunity.


Regrading of this. Can Ibuki gets Zao's shells? Other Tier 9's cruiser got the Tier 10's shells as an upgrade, of course it comes with either the nerfed turret speed, RoF or number of guns. Even in official wiki says Ibuki "Basically a more pudgy tier 9 Mogami" and "Shell speed is slightly slower than predecessor despite both ships carrying the same gun". Make the Ibuki bit more comfortable to play.

3. Any plans to remove "Hull C" for Mogami and Myoko? Having to grind more exps than "Hull B" just for a slight AA improvement is kinda pointless. Or perhaps reduce the exps required?

I have a very simple question for you:


- When is PvE coming?

  - Or if there is not an official date for it, can you give us some idea of when? (Things like Q3 2017 or Winter 2017)

  - In what form can we expect it? Is it like the Halloween mode but with a Historical Background? Or more like Skirmish mode like the curret Co-op mode?

3. It is going to be a particular scenario, which should be different enough from random battles. You will see for yourself :)

I have heard somewhere that the BB's turn radius has been significantly nerfed way back into pre-beta stage due to there was a number of complaints back then that the ships were being so effective at dodging torpedoes. Then there is a nerf to IJN torpedo detection due to the "20km torpedo soup" situation.


In my opinion, the nerf to BB's turn radius could be contributing to the passive gameplay in high-tiers. On top of the hampered ability to dodge torpedo due to the nerf, the even more negative impact is the inability for the non-german BBs to make a u-turn and reposition themselves from dangers without taking massive damage or getting outright sunk in some of the worse cases.


Would WG consider somewhat reverse this two stats: the IJN torpedo detection and the high-tier ship turn radius?

No. We're tweaking specific IJN DDs that need help, and this is going to be enough.

As for 20 km torps, we have several ideas for them, and queued them for prototyping internally.

1. Yes.

2. Sometimes yes, especially when the demand for shiny gimmicks is quite high.

3. Such things are nice to have, and even planned, but stand very long way in queue, because other new features are more important.

4. Yes, that would be great, but for now we don't have any immediate solution. I hope we will get to it later.
