Performance drop when lowering settings

Hi guys

Recently I'd been testing on a new computer which is a (completely stock) Dell Vostro 3468 with i3-7100U, 4GB DDR4 and Intel HD 620

When I tried to play at medium settings I get around 35 FPS

but when I turn off heavy stuff e.g. Foliage Quality and set several others to low e.g. Sea Rendering Quality my FPS drops to 25-ish and in several CQC combats it goes to as low as 18

thus, the client sometimes has a brief freeze

I have two questions

1. what is slowing my system down? the bad HDD, the single channel RAM, or anything else? (I neither use mod nor web browsers during my session)

2. what settings should I use to get the highest FPS possible (for this system I don't bother turning the settings down at all, I just need FPS!)

1st edit: what settings can significantly reduce the strain on the hard drive?

U shouldnt have any problem. Do you know what is the recommended settings for ur Cpu and IGPU?

Intel suggest your graphics is to be different

Here is the link. Secured Intel web

u are using a laptop
laptop has dynamic graphic switching

try setting the intel igpu to best performance and max performance when plugged in instead of auto

and make sure your cpu dont throttle

tried and doesn't work -_- but at least there's something to be suspicious about

because FPS stays the same (about 25 FPS in port) either with low or high settings

1. Dynamic Switching isn't available when there's only 1 GPU in the system

2. My CPU temps were fine (below 80c)

3. Yes I did (and still doesn't work)

Typically rendering frames is job of GPU so lower settings should increase FPS. You can open resource monitor and see where your system has bottleneck.

Well in this case it didn't :/

So did you look to see at resource monitor to see where the bottleneck is?

Have you allocated maximum memory to GPU in BIOS?

Have you set performance to full power? I expect that is what was meant by dynamic switching.

how much should I allocate before things start to break down?

and I've set power to max performance already
